Inside the dilapidated temple, the girl trembled violently all over.
The person in front of me had his feet off the ground, his face was bluish in the firelight, and his mouth was wide open as if he were screaming, but no sound came out.
It was as if he was frozen in that moment before his death.
Be quiet.
"Ah—" the girl let out a piercing scream.
[There's a ghost in front of you. If you don't want to die, listen to me. If you want to die, keep screaming.]
The girl immediately stopped speaking—she covered her mouth with both hands, as if she were stuffing the sound into her mouth and swallowing it.
Ask him, "Are you a human or a ghost?"
"You, you, are you a human or a ghost?" the girl stammered, mimicking a parrot.
Across the firelight, a ghost with its mouth agape moved closer, its face growing even more ghastly and terrifyingly in the firelight.
"I am a ghost, and you?" the ghost retorted.
I'm a ghost too.
The girl followed Li Changzhou and said, "I...I'm a ghost too."
The ghost scrutinized her; its bloodshot eyes moved stiffly, like two dull, lifeless beads, devoid of any spirit.
The girl held her breath.
She was almost drowning in fear, her whole body was trembling, and her face was deathly pale.
"Then why did you light the fire?" the ghost asked.
[Having just drowned, he still thinks he's alive.]
The girl was no longer able to speak. The ghost in front of her was floating up inch by inch, but its legs were straight and its body was swaying, as if it were being hung up.
"Whoosh!" The campfire went out suddenly, plunging the world into darkness.
The girl didn't scream, not because she didn't want to, but because she was paralyzed by extreme fear, as if she were pressed underwater, unable to make a sound.
"Speak quickly! I was just drowned and still think I'm alive!" Li Changzhou urged.
In the darkness, he clearly saw a rope hanging down, one end tied to the ghost's neck and the other end looped around the girl.
“I… just died… and thought… I was… alive.” The girl’s teeth chattered.
The rope stopped.
Through his divine sense, Li Changzhou clearly saw that the ghost was looking at the girl's pale face with some confusion.
Can ghosts fly? Can you teach me?
"Can ghosts fly? Can you teach me?"
"Oh." The ghost slowly descended and sat down again in front of the extinguished campfire. The rope was gone. "I am a hanged ghost. I can't fly. The rope pulled me up."
"Don't be afraid," Li Changzhou said calmly. "I am the deity of this temple. Because the temple is broken, it has lost its incense offerings and its divine power, but I won't abandon it to its fate. Just listen to me, and dealing with a little devil will be a piece of cake."
Gods?
The girl finally felt a little relieved.
[Ask him: I just died, what should I be careful about as a ghost?]
"I just died, what should I be careful about as a ghost?" the girl asked.
"Memory fades. If you don't kill, you'll slowly forget everything and eventually disappear."
After a pause, the ghost suddenly asked, "Are you really not human?"
The ghost's mouth opened wide, splitting open to a width greater than that of a normal person, almost covering the girl's entire head.
The girl heard: "Are you really a hanged ghost? Why is your mouth so wide open?"
She repeated the sentence as her heart trembled.
Am I going to be eaten?
The ghost's mouth reverted to its screaming form, but its expression was blank, sinister and terrifying: "You just died, you're not used to being a ghost yet, look."
The ghost took off its own head and handed it to the girl.
Raise your hand, directly above where the campfire was, and catch what the ghost hands you.
'Things? What things?'
If you don't want to die, reach out.
The girl closed her eyes, stretched out her hands, and caught a cold sphere. Wet black hair fell into her palms like snakes.
Wow, that's amazing! Are ghosts afraid of nothing?
The girl mustered all her courage and tried not to think about what she was holding. The word 'head' just popped into her head when she pushed it back down.
She focused intently on repeating Li Changzhou's words.
“No,” the ghost replied.
The ghostly hair in the girl's palm made a sound, and a chilling aura blew over her.
The ghost continued, "A boy's urine can melt a ghost's body, and a virgin's blood can seal our movements... Are you afraid?"
"I'm cold." The girl trembled, this time she wasn't acting. "I'm so cold, I fell into the water, I'm going to die."
"You are already dead," the ghost kindly reminded him.
The girl didn't speak.
[The method has already been told to you: if you are a man dressed as a woman, urinate; if you are a woman, bite your lip and press the blood onto the ghost's head in your palm.]
Ghost Head!
!
It really was a head, a ghost's head! I was holding a ghost's head!
"Why is your body hot?" the ghost asked again.
"He just died, or maybe... he was warmed by the fire," the girl repeated tremblingly.
Make a choice; the other party has already shown you the way out.
Li Changzhou fell silent.
The ghost had initially put its suspicions to rest after several attempts to test the girl, but the girl, now without Li Changzhou's help, quickly made it suspicious again.
"My God! My God!" the girl cried out in her heart.
Seeing that the girl's identity as a living person was about to be exposed, Li Changzhou still did not speak.
The way to survive from the demon's clutches has already been found. No matter how much he helps, it's just a delaying tactic. The most crucial step, "taking action," can only be decided by the girl herself.
"Give me back my head," the ghost said.
The girl's heart skipped a beat, and her arms trembled.
"Are you afraid?" The hanged ghost stood up and pressed, "You're afraid of ghosts? You're not a ghost? You're human? You're human!"
