Chapter 405 Abyss - Safe Zone

The abyss was right in front of them, separated from the eight people by a pile of messy ice blocks—like a giant object falling from the sky, shattering the icy sea, with pieces of ice being thrown into the air and crashing down here.

The ice cubes were of various shapes, clean and beautiful, like a dream, because there was no snow or dust.

"Is this the 'place to leave one's name'?" Tali asked, gazing intently.

Yete walked up to her and deliberately startled her: "It's called 'Save Your Life' again."

Li Changzhou would expose himself if he spoke about information like this, so he remained silent.

“Old man,” Andy turned to look at the old man, “where is your name left?”

The old man didn't speak, and walked forward, with the others following.

“The captain, me, and Bertie—all three of our names are written together with the old man’s,” Yete said.

“We made a fortune last time we came,” Berts said, “even though six people died.”

“The portions for those six people are also ours,” Yete added.

"Little Tali, dig out more ice when you see it later." Berts looked at Tali with ill intent.

The two of them made fun of her together.

“Hmph, Yett and Berts, you two dig a little more too,” Tali retorted.

The old man stopped in front of a piece of ice, half-buried in the ground, like a tombstone.

It contained the names of many people, and except for four, the rest of the names had a scratch on them, which represented death.

“I led all these people down here,” the old man said.

He stood in front of the ice monument for a while, then stepped aside to make room.

Andy, Stonefist, and Tali stepped forward and left their names on it.

Li Changzhou glanced at the former Shadow Team captain, whose identity he had replaced, whose name was 'Mingzhou'.

It's quite interesting that someone who possesses the "great power" of darkness is called "Daylight." Does this mean that only light can defeat darkness?

Li Changzhou appears similar to Captain Mingzhou, but they are fundamentally different. His instinct is [Black Mist], and although he is called 'Changzhou', he is actually darkness.

This captain of 'Dawn' may have been silently devoured by the 'great power - darkness' he possessed on his way to Della's Tavern. Even stars have a day when they go out, and mortals can only illuminate for a short time even if they give their lives.

"alright!"

"Andy's name is written too big!"

"The bigger the writing, the better the luck, and the longer you live!"

“Even if you die, everyone will recognize you at a glance,” Yate said.

“Yet—”

"Let's go, let's hurry." The old man interrupted the young man's playful banter, his expression serious.

The eight continued forward.

Tali took a deep breath. Now she was really going to enter the abyss. She clenched her hands. Only four names on an ice monument were still alive. Could she survive?

The abyss is a deep pit.

As for how deep it is... no corpse that has ever fallen to the bottom has ever climbed up.

The old man unfurled two bundles of rope. The old man, Andy, Yate, and Booz formed one group, while Li Changzhou, Yang Qinglan, Tali, and Shi Quan formed another.

“Remember,” the old man checked the sturdiness of each person’s rope, “if someone slips and can’t hold on, cut the rope without hesitation—from here, there are no teammates, no family, no friends.”

“Don’t worry too much,” Yete reassured Tali, who was trembling with nervousness. “There will be a long ‘safe zone’ for you to get familiar with. If you need money, just venture a little deeper into the ‘crash zone’ and you’ll find solid ice that you can’t get your hands on.”

“With the captain here, the ‘fall zone’ is nothing,” Berts said.

Tali kept her lips tightly closed and nodded.

"Yet! You're first!" the old man shouted.

"Damn it!"

Tali noticed that as Yete walked toward the abyss, his fingertips trembled slightly; he was also afraid.

For some reason, Tali felt relieved. Even Yet was afraid, so what good was it for her to be afraid?

Yete plunged the iron spikes on the tips of his boots deep into the ice wall, slammed his ice axe into the ground, and slowly lowered himself down inch by inch.

Next was the old man, then Andy, and finally Peggy.

He was the first in Li Changzhou's group.

He had no experience climbing ice walls, but he had the courage to walk on cliffs in torrential rain and freezing temperatures, as well as the skills to fight against Guanyin and Sun Wukong.

Before his body was even fully attached to the ice wall, he was already very skilled, and even his technique in using force was more refined than the old man's.

Second is Yang Qinglan, third is Tali, and last is Shi Quan.

The eight people were divided into two groups and crawled down the ice wall little by little, like worms.

The ice wall was chillingly cold. When using ice spikes and ice axes to chisel into the ice wall, one's own hands, like tools, were frozen and completely numb, separated from the brain by a great distance.

"Don't look down!" the old man roared. "Don't gaze into the abyss!"

Ding! Ding! Ding!

After three attempts, Yang Qinglan finally managed to chip the ice axe into the ice wall. Tiny ice fragments rolled down, turning into tiny figures midway, and irreversibly plummeted into the abyss.

Keep going down, for ten minutes, half an hour, an hour, three hours.

As the sun rises higher, the temperature drops sharply.

"Watch out!" the old man said for the umpteenth time. "The only danger in the safe zone is yourself!"

Tali looked up at the sky; the sun was above the abyss, cold and frozen.

A gentle pull came from the rope around her waist, bringing her back to her senses. She realized that the lone traveler had descended to the limit of the rope's reach between them. She took a breath through her lips (breathing through the nose felt like being cut by a knife as soon as she entered the abyss) and began to descend as well.

After stopping, Yang Qinglan took a breath.

She turned her head and saw a hint of excitement in Li Changzhou's eyes. Despite the precarious situation, he showed no fear.
