Chapter Seventeen: Rest

After drinking the water, everyone sat in the shade to rest, remaining vigilant and observing their surroundings at all times.

Li Changzhou recalled the events of his journey and reflected on his words and actions.

One thing that bothered him was that when Zheng Qing first lunged at him, Yang Qinglan used "repulsion" to pull him away, and when Zheng Qing lunged at him a second time, Yang Qinglan used "repulsion" on Zheng Qing again.

There was not even a second between the two.

The same applies when fighting against the 'Invincible Wind and Fire Wheel' and the monstrous snake.

On the island, however, there was a 30-second interval between the two times Yang Qinglan retrieved the "identity card" from the camouflage uniform.

Were we on guard against them, or against an enemy that didn't exist at the time?

As he loaded the gleaming yellow bullets into the magazine, he glanced at Yang Qinglan, who was drawing and writing on the ground with a dagger.

Her long black hair was loosely tied up on top of her head, and the strands at her temples were damp with sweat, clinging to her fair and delicate face like a fine brush painting.

“You two come over here and take a look,” she said, her gaze still fixed on her drawing, as if checking a completed exam paper, “to see if there’s anything to add.”

Li Qianxia was right next to her. She peeked out and said, "No."

Li Changzhou, holding a bullet, got up and walked over. Yang Qinglan had drawn a map, a map from the platform all the way to the canyon.

An "x" was drawn at the location of the attack.

He examined it closely for a while, then used bullets to add a few insignificant sand dunes to it.

"To win this game, we not only need to survive to the last 15, but also need to have the stamina to walk back to the station."

Yang Qinglan glanced at Zheng Qing, who was examining the leg wound, and continued:

"If any of us were seriously injured, we might win the game but die in the desert."

Li Qianxia suggested, "How about we stay here? There's water, we don't have to be in the sun, and we can wait for our prey to come to us like a chameleon."

“It’s fine to stay here, but we’ll have to take turns climbing up into the canyon to keep watch and prevent any contestants from getting close. Those of us in the canyon also need to be careful; that chameleon might come back.”

After Yang Qinglan finished speaking, she turned her gaze to Li Changzhou: "What's your opinion?"

"To blindly march through the desert without a destination is tantamount to suicide... I'll listen to you."

"Oh, oh, oh, I'll listen to you," Li Qianxia chimed in.

Li Changzhou ignored the guy, then, as if remembering something, shrugged and said, "Oh right, this was found on Invincible Wind and Fire Wheel."

"What is it?" Li Qianxia asked.

"Crossbows are powerful, but they are slow to load and we're out of bolts. We need to buy some."

After five heartbeats, the "Bee-Style Stinger Crossbow" appeared in his hand.

It is very small and can be fixed to the forearm.

After discussing it for a while, the three decided to wait until the game ended to see if there was any better equipment to buy, and if not, to distribute it again.

"Officer Zheng, how are your injuries?" Li Changzhou asked Zheng Qing.

“Your treatment is very effective. If you continue to maintain this rate of recovery, you should be fully recovered in about a week.” Despite this, Zheng Qing was still somewhat anxious.

"I'm so sorry for hurting you," Li Qianxia said apologetically, "but you can't blame my brother for what happened."

Zheng Qing was a little puzzled, but then she realized what was going on and said with a wry smile, "You're really sensitive. Don't worry, I'm not upset about my own injury, but I'm worried about my teammates who got separated from me."

She sighed and said:

“It’s good that your leg is injured, otherwise I would have gone to find them by myself. But like your brother said, walking into the desert without any direction is just suicide.”

“Actually, I expected this a long time ago. That’s why I shot you in the leg to protect you,” Li Changzhou said calmly.

Li Qianxia looked down on this guy: "Don't embarrass me anymore. You just want to disable Officer Zheng's 'jump' skill, don't you?"

"I'll embarrass you? Who's bigger, you or me? I'll embarrass you?" Li Changzhou did not deny her last statement.

"Ha!" Li Qianxia sneered, "If I hadn't let you have a second chance because you're younger, would you have been born before me?"

"Heh, it seems you've forgotten what happened in the amniotic fluid. If I hadn't helped you untie the umbilical cord, you would have been strangled to death long ago."

"I was the one who untied the umbilical cord for you. You're so young and you have such a bad memory. You should quit pornography now."

"I……"

"You've been indulging in excessive sexual activity!" Li Qianxia raised her voice and spoke first.

"..." Li Changzhou pushed the magazine into the AK and pulled the bolt.

Li Qianxia triumphantly tossed her ponytail.

The argument was over, and Zheng Qing was still a little dazed. She said, half-laughing and half-crying:

"It's really hard to keep the atmosphere heavy when I'm with you guys, but you should still be mindful of that. Sometimes a too lighthearted atmosphere isn't a good thing."

Ms. Yang's level of resonance was 98%, while the Li siblings' level of self-reflection was 0%.

While there was still some time to rest, Li Changzhou asked Zheng Qing for advice on how to fight.

“The first thing is your eyesight,” Zheng Qing said, “to see how much you can see through the other person.”

"I don't quite understand." Li Changzhou never pretended to understand what he didn't.

"For example, if I had a pistol tucked into my waistband, would you dare to attack me? No. But if that pistol was inside my clothes, you couldn't see it, would you feel like you were invincible?"

"Eye-catching ability tests whether you can tell if there is a 'gun,' where the gun is, and what kind of gun it is."

"The more you know your opponent, the less likely you are to make mistakes in battle."

Li Changzhou fell into deep thought.

"What about spear skills?" Li Qianxia asked curiously.

"I don't know much about guns, but all weapons have a general principle: first, strike first; second, fight with the mindset of defeating the enemy; and third, run fast when you're out of the way."
