Chapter Nineteen: The Dwarf Marmoset

Whether the legend of Zhao Feiyan dancing on the palm of one's hand is true or not is unknown, but this little baby in front of us certainly is.

Although it is called an infant, it is actually an adult. Its face and gender characteristics are completely miniature versions of human females.

But no matter who it is, they wouldn't treat it as a human being.

It's one thing to be the size of a palm—humans have all grown to that size—but climbing a sheer, unsupported cliff face with bare hands is something no human has ever been able to do at any stage of life.

“You, you…” Li Qianxia was speechless, staring in shock at the dwarf marmoset.

Even Zheng Qing, a soldier, was momentarily stunned, her mouth slightly agape.

"Can I cross over?" The pygmy marmoset looked timid in both its expression and movements.

For a giant human, in the flames that even the fiercest beasts in the rainforest dare not touch, it is no different from a human seeing a superman with his back to the sun.

"Excuse me, can I ask you a few questions first? You—" Yang Qinglan carefully chose her words, worried that the other party might not understand, "The game, everyone, is very dangerous."

The pygmy marmoset was far more intelligent than she had imagined, and nodded knowingly.

"Yeah, but there are some things I don't know either, and I'm so cold."

The temperature has already dropped to near zero.

"Don't worry," Li Changzhou said softly, "just a few questions will suffice."

Upon hearing his voice, the pygmy marmoset retreated rapidly, leaving only its fist-sized face exposed to the firelight.

Li Qianxia gently nudged her older brother with her arm, telling him not to scare the little marmoset, as it was quite cute.

"Be careful," Zheng Qing said after a moment's hesitation.

"How many times have you participated in the game?" Yang Qinglan asked in a gentle voice.

“This is the second time, after the first qualifying round,” the pygmy marmoset answered clearly.

"You are—" Yang Qinglan examined it, "How did you become human? Do you know what a human is?"

"Are you talking about my body?" The pygmy marmoset released its right hand from the cliff face and examined it closely.

"Um."

"This is what I redeemed during the qualifying rounds. I chose all the items with the word 'human' in them because it resembles a type of insect that I like, and it turned into this after waking up."

Li Qianxia really wanted to ask what kind of insect it was, but the pygmy marmoset probably didn't know its name, and even if it did, they wouldn't know it even if she told them.

There are millions of insect species discovered in the world, and the number is increasing by 1,000 species every year.

Yang Qinglan continued to ask the pygmy marmoset, "How was your qualifying round?"

"A tree, a really big tree, red ones, green ones, and some that look a lot like us but are bigger than us. Their voices are so loud, like fire in the sky!"

After a two-second silence following this question, Yang Qinglan finally spoke:

How did you survive the qualifiers?

With everyone focused, the way a struggling individual survives in the value game determines whether that individual is trustworthy.

For example, the anime character during the day looks like the kind who is cruel, ruthless, and indiscriminately kills innocent people, or someone who genuinely treats value games as just games.

“Run, jump,” said the pygmy marmoset. “I kept running, jumping from one branch to another, and then it was over.”

Li Qianxia breathed a sigh of relief; it wasn't the kind of brutality or massacre.

To be honest...

This monkey, with its human-like appearance and innocent eyes, looks like a child; it's hard to imagine it lying.

"What should we do? Should we let it come over?" she asked the other three.

Zheng Qing is caught in a dilemma.

As a woman and a human being, it's hard to let a shivering "child" go away, but as a soldier, she's required to never trust the enemy on the battlefield.

Fortunately, she doesn't have to make decisions here.

Yang Qinglan looked at Li Changzhou, questioning him with her eyes.

"Let it come over," Li Changzhou said with a smile.

Um?

Li Qianxia immediately noticed that something was wrong with her older brother.

It is unknown whether the two untied the umbilical cord from each other's necks while in the amniotic fluid, but they did spend time together in the amniotic fluid and have been together every day since leaving the amniotic fluid, so they know each other very well.

Yang Qinglan had a vague feeling about it.

Li Changzhou used to look at her with a mixture of admiration and speculation, but today that admiration was gone.

But neither of them took it to heart, assuming he was just being wary.

"Controlling dopamine"

Li Changzhou knew himself well; he was an ordinary college student who had never seen the world, and he simply couldn't bring himself to be cruel to a dwarf marmoset that looked like a child.

To avoid making a foolish mistake out of kindness and harming himself and his sisters, he suppressed his emotions and maintained absolute rationality.

Rationality is not ruthlessness. He still cares about his sister and Yang Qinglan's feelings, but if anything is wrong, he will not hesitate to shoot the dwarf marmoset that looks like a human and is the size of an infant.

This is almost no psychologically different from killing an infant.

The pygmy marmoset shrank back further, watching Li Changzhou warily.

"Am I being disliked?" Li Changzhou asked with a forced, aggrieved smile.

(Did you notice? Animals are indeed very perceptive.)

"Come on over here," Li Qianxia beckoned to the pygmy marmoset, "Come warm yourself by the fire."

The pygmy marmoset wasn't afraid of her. Without hesitation, it circled around the wall and descended the cliff from a direction as far away from Li Changzhou as possible, slowly approaching the fire.

Everyone sat down, but kept a distance from the pygmy marmoset.

"Are you afraid of him?" Li Qianxia asked curiously.

The pygmy marmoset is a little afraid of fire, a little reluctant to part with it, and a little curious.

Upon hearing Li Qianxia's voice, it quickly looked up at Li Changzhou and nodded vigorously, "Yes!"
