Chapter 107: Claudia's Choice

With a broken heart, Claudia left the turbulent vortex. Compared with the sins she had committed against Patrice, saving her other relatives was more important.

Claudia successfully returned to Stormwind City much earlier than expected, just after midnight, which gave her more time to think about countermeasures.

And this was not the only good news. Claudia devoured the soul of a high-level demon lord during the subway battle. This not only increased her strength, but more importantly, the hunger in her body disappeared.

"How long can this soul satisfy my hunger?" Claudia asked.

"...In human terms, that's one week. Furthermore, after that, you need to eat at least one piece of food you snatched from that loser every day. Otherwise, you've already seen the consequences..."

Such a powerful soul can only satisfy a week's worth of food? No wonder C'Thun was so sure I'd fall. Even if I were willing to eat only evil monsters, how could I find enough food to last me? Sooner or later, I'll become a completely uncontrollable monster like before. Sure enough, finding a place to commit suicide after arranging my afterlife is the best option...

A resolute look flashed in the girl's eyes. The world after death was indeed terrifying, but it was nothing compared to certain things, such as the harm she had just done to her sister...

Thinking of this, Claudia felt another sharp pain in her heart.

As if sensing the girl's thoughts, the whisper in the void sounded again:

"...I suggest you don't try to escape your mission by committing suicide. Of course, if you repeatedly refuse to cooperate with us, that's fine too, but you're not the only one with this bloodline. And compared to you, that girl just now doesn't have the Holy Mark of Order to stay awake. For example, your child's bloodline may be a little thin, but with a little effort to purify and transform it, it will be the same..."

“That’s enough!”

Claudia's angry voice interrupted the whispers. Faced with such a naked threat, she clenched her fists and gritted her teeth in hatred, but she could do nothing.

Family is Claudia's Achilles' heel. In her heart, her sister, children and Varian are much more important than her, and she will love them wholeheartedly.

Just as she would abandon the Paladin's discipline for Jaina when her life was at stake, now she would rather save her family than the whole world.

And this is Claudia's selfishness.

"...Ah, our darling, we can show you a path that you can accept, a path that will benefit you and your family..."

"Just like you urged me to corrupt my sister just now?" the girl said hatefully.

"...That was just an accident, but as a sign of sincerity, we can still promise here that we will never send any forces affiliated with our Void to corrupt or harm your blood relatives in any way. In reality, even doing so would be meaningless. The nutrients of those three wastes are only enough for one Fallen Demon to grow to adulthood..."

After receiving the promise, Claudia finally felt a little relieved. Starting from the demigod level, once a promise is formally made, it is impossible to breach the contract. This is an axiom. To be more precise, it is impossible to break the contract because words carry the law of nature.

"...And we don't want to destroy the world. Keeping you awake is good for both of us, and it's not as difficult as you think. Azeroth is special, so this plane will never be short of monsters that want to destroy the world. You don't have to worry about not having enough evil prey to eat. I believe this is morally acceptable to you..."

"...I guess you've also noticed that after devouring that demon, you're one step closer to the growth stage. Once you enter the growth stage, your appetite will be greatly reduced. With the Holy Mark of Order, you can even suppress your appetite with reason and live like a normal person..."

Amid the incessant whispers of the Void, Claudia gradually changed her initial attitude of complete resistance. She planned to play along with the Void for the time being and buy time. After all, there might be other ways besides a fight to the death, such as the Holy Light, the Titans, or Elune.

But my younger sister must hate me so much now. How should I face her?

With so many worries, Claudia returned to the secret base of MI7, where Jaina, Mathias and others were waiting for her.

During the few hours that Claudia was away, Jaina and Mathias did not do nothing. They found Marshal Windsor who was still in Stormwind, General Marcus Jonathan who was in charge of the city defense, the Royal Knights who were civilians, and investigated the situation inside Stormwind Fortress.

Seeing Claudia enter wearing her iconic silver armor and carrying Strom'kar, the general and marshal no longer had any doubts about her identity. They touched their chests and saluted, saying, "Greetings, Your Majesty."

Compared to the uncertain future, rescuing Varian and the children was more important. So Claudia quickly adjusted her mindset and nodded in response, saying, "Marshal, General, I'm glad to see that you've made the right decision in such a dark moment."

General Marcus stood up straight, staring into Claudia's eyes with a scorching gaze. "Your Majesty, Ms. Prodimore has presented us with all sorts of evidence and analyzed many anomalies. We also agree with this—"

Claudia turned her gaze to Jaina, who smiled and nodded in response.

General Marcus continued, "However, regarding the fact that His Majesty the King is being controlled, this is merely speculation. More importantly, we need to know how you will treat His Majesty afterwards. If His Majesty is unable to release himself from this state of control, what will be done?"
