When Claudia and Sir Hodge parted ways, she declined his polite invitation to be his guest, but accepted another gift that Sir Hodge had sent to her caravan: two bags of grain and a large bag of sausages.
Back in the car, Paltress was wearing a white long dress, hugging her knees and looking out of the car. Her lake blue eyes under her long eyelashes showed a hint of melancholy. This journey south allowed her to see many scenes she had never seen before. The masks between people were completely torn off in the face of survival, and they would do anything for food and survival.
"Sister," Patrice raised her head, revealing her swan-like neck and clear and beautiful collarbone, and then asked:
"I don't quite understand why people would abandon their dignity and honor for a little food. This is completely different from what Teacher Demetria said."
Claudia walked over to her and knelt down, wrapping her right arm around her sister. "Because not everyone considers certain things more important than survival, but these people didn't commit evil willingly; they simply had no choice. As long as they repent in the future, the Holy Light will forgive them."
"Well," Paltress responded softly, then asked hesitantly, "Can we help them?"
Claudia was silent for a long time, then shook her head. "There's nothing we can do. Our resources are limited. We can only wait until Nanhai Town is on board the ship before we can take out the extra food..."
Cuckoo cuckoo.
Claudia held her sister's right hand and felt the vibration in her sister's abdomen. Then, Patrice's white jade face instantly turned red with shame.
Claudia suddenly understood and asked with some concern, "Did you secretly save your own food to give to the refugees again? You hugged your knees just now because you were so hungry, right?"
Paltress lowered her head uneasily and said, "I'm... sorry, sister. I don't think I need to eat so much normally... any help is appreciated..."
Claudia didn't blame her sister. Instead, she caressed her sister's soft golden hair lovingly, kissed her forehead, and said, "No, this is all my fault. From now on, I will give you some food every day to share with the refugees, but promise me, don't share your own food with others anymore, okay?"
Paltress took advantage of the situation and leaned into her sister's arms, and replied obediently: "Okay, sister."
"Also," Claudia instructed, "try to avoid other people when giving out food. This is better for us and for everyone who receives the food."
Patrice agreed, and then Claudia got out of the car to get something to eat for her sister.
Claudia's chest also felt heavy. She could see much more than her sister. The refugees were still restrained because they had not eaten all the food they brought with them, and they did not dare to go too far because they had hope in His Majesty King Greymane. In two or three months, as food and patience were exhausted, it was hard to say whether the desperate refugees would resort to cannibalism.
I should do something, this thought flashed through her mind, but she then rejected this idea, what else could she do? Giving food to the refugees was the limit of what she could do. The refugees were short of food, but she did not have so much food.
Maybe there is a way. A thought flashed through her mind vaguely, but the girl never grasped it. Then she stopped thinking about it and started taking care of her sister.
When we arrived at Southshore, we found that the situation of the victims was much more serious than that at Greymane Wall, just as Sir Hodge had said.
This is not because the number of refugees in Southshore is as large as Sir Hodge said, but is much smaller than that at Greymane Wall. Many victims have left here and chosen to continue south to the Kingdom of Stromgarde in order to survive. The situation is serious because Southshore is too small.
Although there are many large farms around Nanhai Town, it is just a town after all, and its economy relies on maritime trade and fishing. Therefore, when thousands of hungry refugees arrived, it caused a huge impact on local order. In order to survive, the refugees did everything they could, such as stealing, robbing, selling themselves, and killing each other.
After Claudia and her sister arrived, they went directly to the hotel in the town. Claudia did not wear armor, but a tight green hunting suit. The tight hunting suit made the girl exude a youthful and playful vitality. Paltrice next to her was dressed in white, followed by Sir Rhine's family and Natalie.
Claudia did not encounter much harassment in the town, but this did not mean that the disaster had eased, because under the iron-fisted suppression of Mayor Henri Mareb, the order in the town was still basically guaranteed during the day.
"Dear guests, what would you like to order?" The hotel owner Anderson came forward enthusiastically. People in this line of work have good eyesight. He could quickly judge the social class of the girls from their clothes from a distance.
Claudia replied, "I'm looking for Roddy Klumb. I was his former lord."
Anderson couldn't help but exclaimed, "Oh my God, you are just... Knowing you're coming, Roddy will definitely be very excited."
"Hurry, go and ask Roddy to come down." Anderson ordered the guy beside him.
Soon, a middle-aged man with yellow skin, limping with a cane, appeared at the stairs. When he saw Claudia, a look of disbelief appeared on his face, and he trembled as he raised his cane and walked over.
Claudia quickly walked over and supported him: "Be careful with the steps, Uncle Roddy."
Butler Rody's eyes welled with tears. He reached out and touched the girl's face. "By the Holy Light, Miss, it really is you. This is so wonderful, so wonderful!"
