Blackrock Spire, top of the tower.
The current Black Dragon King, Nefarian, was not sitting on his throne, but was standing on the edge of the top of Blackrock Spire, gazing at the land called the Burning Canyon to the north of Blackrock Spire. In the distance, a mixed army of Bronzebeard dwarves and humans was marching on the road, and their destination was Blackrock Spire.
Although according to the known intelligence, the target of this army was only the Dark Iron Dwarves, Nefarian still felt a little uneasy and irritated.
It has been fifteen years since Nefarian came to Blackrock Spire to incorporate the old Horde. Over the years, although the Dark Iron Dwarves and the Horde have fought from time to time as before he came, Nefarian did not mind these little fights between mortal races. In fact, Blackrock Spire was perfect in every aspect in Nefarian's eyes, so he set up the black dragonflight's lair here.
This place has the largest volcano in Azeroth. The sulfur and scorching environment are essential for the development of dragon eggs, especially black dragon eggs. Nefarian needs this environment to breed young dragons and conduct experiments.
What's even more perfect is that in the past three hundred years, also because of the volcano, most mortal races such as humans, elves or dwarves have avoided this place as much as possible. This can prevent the traces of the Black Dragon Legion from being easily leaked, and they will not be found by their enemies and disturb Nefarian's experiments.
This is particularly important because because of the previous black dragon king, Deathwing, the black dragon army has enemies everywhere.
Their biggest enemy is the other four-colored dragons. In the past ten thousand years, the relationship between the black dragon and other dragons has been a life-and-death struggle. Starting fifteen years ago, the Black Dragon Legion began to be hostile to all races in the alliance.
After the Battle of Grim Batol, most people in the Alliance knew about the ignominious role that Deathwing played in the Orc War. It was from then on that the Council of Six of Dalaran began to openly offer a large reward for any clues about the Black Dragon Legion, which forced Nefarian to act with caution.
In order to ensure the secrecy near Blackrock Spire, Nefarian even sent his sister Onyxia under the alias Katrana to the most powerful Stormwind Kingdom near Blackrock Spire to disrupt the situation and ensure that humans had no time to focus their energy on this worthless land in the north.
Onyxia's actions had some good results for a period of time.
She plotted to assassinate Queen Tiffin. The queen's death made the young king sad and decadent and ignored state affairs. When the king had finally recovered, the undead plague broke out in the north and destroyed most of the Alliance countries. Stormwind Kingdom was also trapped in the civil unrest in the western wilderness. Nefarian thought that the Alliance would not be able to recover for at least 20 years, so he relaxed his vigilance like Onyxia.
But in less than half a year when Onyxia returned to her lair to rest, the situation changed in ways no one had expected. The once-invincible Lich King fell into a deep sleep, the Defias Brotherhood was pacified, and a new alliance was re-established. Since then, Onyxia's actions have become increasingly unsuccessful, and Stormwind Kingdom has become increasingly powerful.
This made Nefarian somewhat uneasy, so he accepted Onyxia's proposal, personally kidnapped King Varian and arranged the subsequent attack, hoping to plunge the country into chaos after losing its brain.
But the development of events was not what Nefarian expected. At the critical moment, Varian's new queen stood up, blocked the next few rounds of attacks, and calmed the people's hearts. Under her leadership, the whole country not only regained its former stability, but even showed signs of greater prosperity.
In this situation, Nefarian can only hope that his last trump card will have some effect.
Onyxia told Nefarian about her latest progress two days ago. She had used magic to split King Varian into two identical people. The weak clone had been successfully controlled by her, and the other strong clone was said to have fallen into the sea and disappeared. As long as the right time comes, Onyxia will bring the weak Varian under her control back to Stormwind Kingdom to stir up trouble again.
But before the right time Onyxia mentioned came, Stormwind Kingdom had already sent its army, which made Nefarian, who had ulterior motives, a little worried, even though everything seemed normal.
According to what Nefarian knew, the Dark Iron Dwarves had rebelled a few days ago and, along with an army of water elements, had driven out Ragnaros.
After learning that the Dark Iron Dwarves had lost the Firelord as their backer, King Magni almost immediately sent a request for help to Stormwind Kingdom, requesting that Stormwind Kingdom send troops to assist the Bronzebeard Dwarves in teaching the Dark Iron Dwarves a lesson.
The Queen Regent of Stormwind did not refuse the allies' request for help. She sent Duke Bolvar to lead a part of the elite troops to Ironforge by subway to obey the command of King Magni. In the following days, King Magni and Bolvar joined forces and marched towards Blackrock Spire. Until just now, Nefarian could see the vanguard of the human-dwarf coalition.
This doesn't seem to be a problem. The hatred between the Bronzebeard dwarves and the Dark Iron dwarves is well known to everyone. The Alliance army is unlikely to leave the Dark Iron dwarves alone and not fight other forces attacking Blackrock Spire. Moreover, Stormwind Kingdom will not send many troops. However, Nefarian still feels a little uneasy.
In this state of mind, Nefarian called upon his men.
"Dakkisath."
"Yes, Your Majesty." A dragon general stepped forward.
"What are those Dark Iron dwarves doing now?"
