Chapter 3 New Life

Chapter 3 New Life

Chapter 3

3.1

Olidesi threw the suitcase in his hand into the small river outside the city of Oprunsi with a "plop".

The leather suitcase was not waterproof. When the river water seeped into the suitcase, it reacted with the remaining chemicals in the suitcase, making a slight "sizzling" sound.

Olidisi listened to the voice and smiled slightly: "Goodbye, Annie."

The small river outside the city was some distance away from Oprunsi. When Olidesi's carriage returned to Oprunsi Castle, it was already dark.

Ollie walked alone and calmly into the knight training ground on the north side of Oplen Castle.

Darkness fell, and the Knights' Training Grounds fell into a quiet slumber. The spacious training grounds were silent, save for the nightlight atop the tower, which cast a thin golden glow on the castle's slate-gray bricks.

Ollie stood alone in the deserted training ground. Occasionally, a breeze blew, lifting her skirt and sleeves.

She held nothing but her knight's sword.

Before, the sword was not sharp.

Now, Olidisi has polished it carefully and made it into a sharp blade.

She held the knight's sword in her hand.

She said, "Reynardel."

No one paid any attention to her.

"Come out," Oledsi said. "I need to talk to you."

Still no one paid any attention to her.

Olidisi's expression turned indifferent. "As my guardian knight, your duty is to protect me. What will happen to you if I die?"

As she spoke, she suddenly raised her knight's sword and swung it towards her neck!

At the same moment, a long sword suddenly appeared and knocked the sharp blade out of her hand; with a clang of metal, the edge of Oulidesi's sword drew a thin line of blood on her neck.

The smell of blood filled the air, and someone said, "Are you crazy?"

Oledsi smiled: "Reynardel, long time no see."

Reynardel looked at her with some anger.

Olidisi was also looking at him.

The light from the tower was very dim, casting a faint shadow on the knight.

Reynardel was wearing a dark gray knight's robe and a silver-patterned knight's sword at his waist. The scabbard was still hanging there, and the sword was already unsheathed - the knight's sword used to knock her away.

"You're still the same," said Oledsi.

He has light brown curly hair, dark amber eyes, and two furry brown fox ears—he is a descendant of the Chimera beastmen of the fox clan.

The Chimera orcs have the blood of wild beasts, are strong and good at fighting, and are the best candidates for the knights to maintain the stability of the city.

And Reynardel is one of the youngest knights in the Order of Oprunsi.

The knight's brown-red curly hair was slightly ruffled by the night wind, and the ends of his hair were slightly curled and stuck to his cheeks, which made his facial contours more distinct and his features deep and resolute.

Reinadel has a likable appearance, but he has a stern expression and speaks in a few words. He only likes to practice his fighting ability and is not close to others.

At this moment, the handsome knight's face was ashen, and the light reflected on the silver-patterned epaulettes on his shoulders, giving off a cold glow.

"You are so naive," he said.

Oledsi ignored him.

She looked down at her knight's sword that had fallen to the ground, then slowly bent down and picked it up.

She wiped the little bit of her own blood off the blade with her fingertips.

"You never liked me," she said.

Reinardel paused, his brows furrowed slightly. Euridsi said, "You don't like me, so even if you become my guardian knight, you don't truly care about my safety."

Olidisi's words were accusatory, but her tone was indifferent, as if she was stating a trivial matter that had nothing to do with her.

Reinardel was stunned. Euridsi curled his lips and said, "Because you didn't really care about my safety, so, in the end, you couldn't save me."

Reinardel wanted to say, "What nonsense are you talking about?" However, he looked at Euridsi and couldn't say it.

Her eyes were so strange.

Lorenz's new wife, Euridice Arquitas, was a calm and polite person. She was a typical lady.

She had never looked like that before.

Ouliidesi looked into the distance, with a strange sense of melancholy in his eyes.

"You and Lorenz are the two best swordsmen in the academy," she said. "Lorenz asked you to be my guardian knight, and you agreed. However, your loyalty belongs to Lorenz, not to me. Lorenz asked you to meet me at the secret passage outside the castle and help me escape from Oprunsi. So, you just stayed outside the castle, waiting for me."

Reynardel's frown deepened, he obviously didn't understand what she was saying.

Oulidesi didn't care and just smiled: "Annie betrayed me, and I couldn't get out of the secret passage. You couldn't wait for me outside the secret passage, and you should have known that something happened to me, but you didn't care."

Reinardel's lips moved slightly——

This was all a bunch of nonsense, illogical, and Reinardel should have just said, "Mad."

However, something in Oridesi inexplicably prevented him from saying anything in rebuttal.

Euridice said, "Reynard Leon."

“…”

"From today on, you are no longer my guardian knight."

3.2

The "Guardian Knights" originated from the Eblad family in the Old Kingdom era before the Queen unified the Ethereal Continent. They are an extension and symbol of aristocratic power.

Every great noble of the Ebrard family will be assigned a "Guardian Knight", who will be selected from among the knights with outstanding performance in the Order of Oprunsi through a trial selection system.

Knights must sign a contract with the person they are protecting, swear an oath of loyalty in the temple, and assume all responsibilities related to the safety of the person they are protecting, such as serving, guarding, and participating in battles.

Some knights believed that this was an honor: after all, being able to become the "Shield of the Nobles" meant being trusted by the nobles, having the opportunity to interact with them, and being able to obtain more money, honor, and status.

But another part of the knights didn't think so.

They believed that becoming the "guardian" of a noble meant living for others from then on, and that one's life would be tied to the fate of others; even if the noble was stupid, cowardly, or incompetent, the knight could not leave.

Therefore, no matter how talented a knight is, he cannot display his talents.

For these knights, the position of "Guardian Knight" is obviously a kind of cage, a shackle forged with oaths, loyalty and responsibility.

Reinadel clearly belongs to the latter.

When studying at Timis Academy, Euridsi also knew this apprentice who was a fox orc.

Not only did he have excellent results in the three studies and four arts, he also had an impressive combat record. He was once described by the Grand Judge of the Royal City as "the successor of the younger generation."

If it weren't for Lorenz's request, he might not have been in Oprunsi by now, but serving in the Grand Judge Guard in the royal capital.

And yet, Lorenz—Lorenz.

Oledsi sighed softly.

Lorenz once asked Reinardel to become the guardian knight of Euridice Aquitas.

Lorenz said, "Oulidsi is extremely intelligent, but not good at fighting. Of all the apprentices in the Knights, I only trust your ability and character."

Lorenz and Reynardel were close friends, so Reynardel stayed and took on the responsibility of "the Countess's Guardian Knight."

In his heart, this was neither honor nor malice, but simply loyalty to a close friend.

He and Lorenz were good friends with similar ideals, and he respected his oath, but he never felt that he belonged to the type of knight who "served the nobles."

This gradually made him silent, and also made him hate Euridsi.

He hated an ordinary, incompetent Countess, Euridice.

"So," Euridsi said calmly, "you couldn't wait for me outside the secret passage. You should have known something was wrong with me, but you didn't care—and in the end, I died. I died at the stake in the Judgment Square."

Reynardel opened his mouth, but no words came out.

"Reynard Leon," Euridsi said, "from today on, you are no longer my guardian knight."

Reinardel's face changed, and Euridsi waved his hand impatiently: "You hate being the guardian knight of a noble lady. It hinders your bright future as a high judge, doesn't it? That's just right, Reinardel."

“…”

"It just so happens that I hate you too," said Euridsi.

Reinardel choked, and Euridsi said coldly: "I hate you, I hate you very much. From today on, you are no longer my guardian knight, and there is no longer any relationship between us."

The knight was about to say something, but Euridice stopped him: "Also, don't call me Countess."

Reinardel was stunned: "What?"

Euridice said coldly: "I will soon break off my engagement with Lorenz Ebrard, and I will no longer be the Countess of Little Oplenci."

Reynardel's eyes suddenly widened.

Before the knight could utter a shocked cry, an angry voice suddenly came from behind Oridsi: "What are you talking about?"

Reinardel was shocked, turned around subconsciously, and saluted:

"…The Duchess."
