Chapter 40: The Witch's Grace

Chapter 40: The Witch's Grace

Chapter 40

40.1

When Cecilia Karagarang said, "I want to be the emperor myself."

It was as if a thunder exploded silently in the living room, and the air seemed to freeze at that moment.

Outside the brightly lit window, a dark cloud suddenly rolled in, as if a new storm was brewing.

Oledsi lowered her eyes, her fingertips tapping unconsciously on the round table. She remained silent for a long time before she smiled faintly.

"Ms. Caragaran," she said, "you are a dangerous person."

Cecilia didn't say anything, and Euridice shrugged lightly, breaking the tense atmosphere in the living room.

She said, "I have long known that Miss Karagarang was very ambitious for the title of Duke of Karagarang; but I never thought that Miss Karagarang was also interested in the throne."

Cecilia curled the corners of her lips.

"Only talented people should become leaders in high positions of power," she said. "Of your four children, Bertha married Prince Constance and became her pawn. Alex, on the other hand, is calm, ambitious, and cautious, but lacks much in the way of strategy. Honestly, I'm not surprised that he was schemed against by you and Princess Matilda. As for Osborne..."

Cecilia spread her hands helplessly. "Osborn, all he has is a muscular build. Besides that, his brain is probably filled with the water from the Little Sapphire Sea, which is crystal clear and empty."

Euridsi laughed out loud, and Cecilia also laughed: "Which of these people is worthy of being the Duke of Karagaran?"

Euridice glanced at Cecilia with a smile. "They became like this, isn't it because you let them do what they did? Hesong told me that at Gaia's Goddess Seminary, you often helped them cheat, gave them advice, and allowed them to receive honors and praise that didn't belong to them. Gradually, they became arrogant and complacent."

Ceciliya smiled nonchalantly, "They're a bunch of idiots. If they weren't being schemed against by me, then they were being schemed against by others. Anyway, the next Duke of Karagaran will naturally be me. There's no doubt about that."

Cecilia said this in a calm tone, but with a firm will and determination.

Euridice couldn't help but raise his eyes slightly and look at Cecilia:

She was clearly a gentle and calm aristocratic lady, her eyes as calm as a tranquil lake. However, beneath the lake, it seemed as if a dangerous beast was hidden.

Oledsi smiled and shook his head.

"Alex Caragaran made a deal with Prince Constance and helped him ascend the throne, just to become the Duke of Caragaran. And you—Ceseliya Caragaran—you helped Prince Constance ascend the throne for a greater ambition."

Cecilia curled her lips in boredom. "Oh, Constance, this male peacock with his tail flying everywhere, he's no different from Alex except that he's a little more cruel. They're both idiots who only got their current status because of their bloodline."

She said, smiling and stroking her fingertips, "If Constance, that fool who thinks she's so smart, ascends the throne, and I become the Duke of Caragaran..."

"Then," Euridsi said, "the scepter and crown of this ethereal continent do not necessarily belong to Constance Mayfield."

"Exactly."

As Cecillia spoke, she sighed, "It's more comfortable to say these things to an intelligent person. I've long known that you are an intelligent person who can understand me."

"I'm not smart." Olidisi curled his lips. "Until now, I still don't know what Miss Karagaran needs me to do."

"Oh," said Cecilia, "Miss Aquitus, you really don't know?"

Euridsi said nothing, and Cecilia looked at her with a calm look.

"You are a wise man," she said. "From my personal point of view, I admire you, Euridsi. I don't want you to be an obstacle in my way. If our interests are aligned, and you are willing to become my advisor, I can give you anything."

The noble lady emphasized "whatever" in her pronunciation.

She didn't make any specific promises, but Oledsi understood:

If Prince Constance became the crown prince - the emperor, Cecilia was confident that she could get rid of Constance, overthrow the royal family of the "Mayfield" family, become the emperor herself, and make the "Karagaran" family the new royal family.

Cecilia promised her: if Euridsi boarded her ship, if she became the new emperor, then she could get whatever she wanted.

However, Oledsi smiled softly and said, "I don't want it."

When Euridsi said calmly, "I don't want it," Cecilia slowly raised her eyes.

She did not refute or get angry, but just raised her eyes and stared at Olidisi.

Outside the window, the rolling dark clouds finally completely blocked out the sunlight, and the light in the living room dimmed completely. The shadows shrouded the faces of both people in semi-darkness.

Finally, Cecillia broke the silence in the room.

“That was a very firm refusal,” she said.

Euridice remained silent. Cecilia smiled and said, "I rarely try to convince anyone. But now, I want to give it a try—Miss Aquitas."

"Ms. Karagarang."

"If you want to move up," Cecilia said, "I'm far more reliable than Herson—a woman is far more reliable than a man."

She paused, then curled her lips. "Hesong is a baron now. A man of humble origin, once he possesses a noble title and power, will have lovers, better marriage partners, and ambitions he didn't have before. He won't walk the same path as you, and he won't remember the wife who supported him during his humble days."

"Oh, Miss Karagaran." Euridsi smiled and shook his head. "You are right about that. If it were noble status that I wanted, Miss, I would certainly choose you."

Her tone was very gentle, but there was no room for maneuver.

"But you are wrong," said Euridice. "From the very beginning. You know, Prince Constance said the same thing to me: 'Instead of getting involved in a fight with them, it is better to seize every opportunity to climb up. Once you are high up, you will naturally be able to trample them underfoot.'"

"And your answer is?"

Oledsi smiled softly.

"I say that all who attempt to climb the ladder, in my opinion, reek of the same repulsive stench."

Cecilia paused slightly, and Euridsi shrugged. "I say: I, Euridsi Aquitas, will always be a citizen of the Void Continent, just like everyone else. I will never become some so-called supreme 'noble.' I will destroy this ridiculous aristocratic ladder, shatter it, and vanish it. I will completely eradicate this rotten and fetid system of hereditary bloodline succession from the Void Continent."

She said, smiling at Cecilia Kalagalang.

"Of course, the system that was eliminated also includes you, the future Princess Karagaran—our interests are not aligned. We are not on the same path."

Cecilia stared at her for a long time without saying anything.

After a while, Cecilia finally spoke slowly: "If that's the case, then why did you help Hesong become a baron?"

The noble lady said, curling her lips: "Doesn't this go against what you said about 'eliminating the nobility'?"

Olidisi smiled faintly and did not explain: "You will see what I want to do, Miss Karagaran."

"Well," Cecilia said, shaking her head regretfully, "In that case, it seems we have nothing more to talk about."

She stood up and picked up her hat, and Euridice also stood up.

The two people looked at each other, their expressions a little subtle.

"You are a smart person." Cecilia said, "I always like smart people, especially women. If I want to be your enemy..."

She smiled regretfully. "I'm really sorry."

Oledsi sighed softly, "Me too. But we all have things we must do."

Cecilia's exquisite carriage gradually disappeared in the dust and slowly disappeared from the sight of Euridsi and Hesong.

In the living room, Hesong stood beside Euridsi, looking at the noble carriage outside the window with a complicated expression.

"What...does she want to do?" he said.

Euridice also looked at Cecilia's carriage and smiled.

"She wants to win me over." Her tone was calm and even. "She wants me to be her advisor."

Hesong paused, a hint of sadness flashing in his eyes.

He lowered his head and whispered, "Indeed, she is of noble birth, the daughter of Lady Agnes, and possesses a brilliant mind and thriving ambition... Becoming her advisor is actually a very good choice."

After Hesong said this, Euridsi withdrew her gaze from the carriage and raised her eyebrows in amusement.

"You clearly know that I want to eliminate these nobles." Olidesi touched his chin. "How could you say such a thing to me?"

He Song was slightly startled, and was also a little lost in thought. "Maybe, it's because Cecilia is not that kind of person... I mean, she is not the kind of aristocrat like Alex and Osborn who can easily use their power to trample on others. She treats everyone with a peaceful attitude. Or, I think she is someone who is willing to respect every citizen."

Ollydesi put away the frivolous smile on her face and thought seriously for a moment: "Indeed. Many people have a good opinion of her. She is indeed not a fool like Osborne."

As she spoke, she murmured thoughtfully to herself, "Cesiliya Karagaran... You have such great ambitions, but you are not someone who simply enjoys power. What do you truly want in your heart?"

"Anyway," Hesong said, his expression somewhat gloomy, "if you choose to become her counselor, I understand, and I don't blame you. I think she would be a good lord."

Hearing what Hesong said, the pensive look on Euridsi's face disappeared and she showed a relaxed and happy smile again.

"Oh, that's totally wrong, Hersong," she laughed. "The 'Karagalang' I'm going to meet next in the plan is not her."

Hesong was slightly startled. "The next step in the plan... you want to meet a 'Karagarang'?"

"Yes," Euridice smiled. "Eustace Caragaran...this beloved illegitimate son, isn't he also a 'Caragaran'?"
