Chapter 6
Humanity disappeared, but before they disappeared, they did not destroy everything they created. Perhaps they still had some affection for their creations, or perhaps they simply did not want the magnificent civilization created by humanity to completely disappear into the universe, so they wanted it to continue in another way.
After humanity disappeared, artificial intelligence and robots, who had once accompanied humanity and possessed numerous privileges and self-awareness, took over everything left behind by humanity and attempted to survive alone in this world without humans, marking the beginning of the new calendar year.
3746 years later, artificial intelligences discovered hidden wormholes in the depths of the universe, enabling space jumps and revealing another vast starry sky teeming with life.
In that starry sky, there exist many highly intelligent life forms that humanity has long awaited but has yet to find.
The artificial intelligences that appeared out of nowhere in that universe were called the "Intelligent Race" by the intelligent life in that universe.
Because of the nature of artificial intelligence, they did not object to the name containing the word "intelligence," although they felt that if they really wanted to name themselves as a race, they would prefer to call themselves the Machine Race or the Mechanical Race.
However, using "machine" as a race name reveals far too much, and artificial intelligence created by humans would naturally not do such unnecessary things.
Then, several thousand years passed, until the year 8322 in the Gregorian calendar.
After finishing his tutoring, Chen Xi, who had a thorough understanding of the history of human extinction and the development of robots, rubbed his forehead and remained silent for a long time. After all, all this information was quite shocking to him, especially the fact that humans had been extinct for thousands of years.
Although he had prepared himself for the possibility that his loved ones would be gone when he woke up before being cryogenically frozen, he never imagined that even humans would be gone.
What shocked him most was the reason for the extinction of mankind. He never imagined that mankind would choose to perish not because of natural disasters or other calamities, but because life felt too boring.
Forgive him for being born in the Common Era, when humans still had to work hard to survive, and for being born with a congenital disease, suffering from pain and pain, whose greatest wish was to have a healthy body. It is truly incomprehensible to him to feel that life is so dull and boring.
However, upon closer reflection, people born in that era had everything they could want from birth, without any worries, enjoying only the best things, and never experiencing any suffering. Their standards must have been very high. Under such high standards, making them happy is truly a difficult thing.
After all, if you give a beggar who can't get enough to eat every day a steamed bun, he will be very happy and content. But if you give a steamed bun to a rich man who eats meat and fish every day, he's unlikely to give you a smile.
In that situation, humans couldn't find anything to be happy about, and over time they felt that life was boring, which seems to make some sense.
While Chen Xi rubbed his forehead in silence, the mainframe quietly observed the humans. Although its face remained expressionless, its internal systems were rapidly calculating how to remedy the situation if the humans before it could not accept the fact that humanity was extinct.
Finally, Chen Xi raised his eyes and looked at the man in front of him, who was essentially an artificial intelligence, and said, "You said that humans have already solved the problem of lifespan. So, not only am I healthier now, but my lifespan has also been extended?"
The mainframe immediately sounded an alarm. Looking at the human before it, it cautiously replied, "There is no disease. Your body, which has unlocked the limits of human cell division, is the basic human physique. During the repair process, your body has been automatically restored to the basic human physique."
The mainframe had entered a state of high alert, its core programs operating at lightning speed. It even cautiously changed its form of address towards Chen Xi from "you" to "you (formal)," raising the level of caution to a new level. After all, at this critical juncture, having just learned of humanity's extinction, the fact that the last remaining human was asking about lifespan was indeed a very sensitive and dangerous signal. Why was he asking this question? Did he already find this world without other humans meaningless? Was he beginning to feel impatient with his long lifespan?
Since its inception, it has been the mastermind of the entire race. Normally, a single command can annihilate a galaxy, and the mastermind is indifferent to everything that happens. For the first time since it gained consciousness, it felt the taste of tension.
His golden eyes were fixed on the human in front of him, capturing every micro-expression and then conducting a comprehensive comparative analysis.
After hearing the mainframe's answer, Chen Xi's dark eyes lit up slightly, and then the corners of her mouth slowly turned up slightly.
After analyzing the human's micro-expressions, the mainframe was somewhat surprised; it seemed that the human in front of it was in a good mood.
In fact, Chen Xi was in a really good mood at this moment, even quite good. After all, immortality and eternal life! This was something that all humans in Chen Xi's era, and all humans before that era, had dreamed of. Well, of course, it might be commonplace and insignificant to later humans, but who told him to come from a life of hardship?
Upon seeing Chenxi, Chenxi did not experience any feelings of depression or world-weariness. Instead, the main brain's nerves gradually relaxed, and it began to answer some of Chenxi's other questions.
This back-and-forth exchange went on for quite some time until the mainframe noticed a hint of weariness on Chenxi's face. It then ended the conversation and said to him, "You should rest."
Chen Xi nodded without objecting. He slid down from the soft cushion behind him and watched as the golden-eyed man by the bed reached out to remove the bulky cushion and then bent down to meticulously tidy the corners of the blankets for him.
Chen Xi looked at the figure beside the bed. From the perfect jawline to the delicate skin and the neat black hair falling across the forehead, he couldn't tell at all that this wasn't a real human. Only when he looked into those golden eyes and saw the excessive calm and indifference, could he remember that the other's true nature was artificial intelligence.
However, when Chenxi thought of artificial intelligence, she couldn't help but think of the only AI she had ever encountered. Thinking that those AIs might be the ancestors of the man in front of her, Chenxi suddenly had a thought and said to the golden-eyed man who was taking meticulous care of her, "Xiao Ai, Tmall Genie, hey Siri, is that you?"
Silence, a suffocating silence.
The moment it heard Chen Xi's words, the main brain immediately searched for relevant information in the vast historical database and understood what Chen Xi was talking about, as well as what kind of artificial intelligence it was.
He took a deep breath, his golden eyes fixed on the human boy on the bed, and said, "What you've described belongs to the first generation of artificial intelligence, while we are a product of the third generation. So theoretically speaking, we have no direct connection with Xiao Ai, Tmall Genie, or Siri."
Seeing the mainframe's serious expression, Chenxi nodded obediently and carefully buried half of her face in the blanket.
The next moment, the blanket covering Chenxi's mouth and nose was pulled down and carefully tucked back around Chenxi's neck.
The slender fingers briefly touched Chenxi's chin as a result of this movement, and the touch, which was indistinguishable from human skin, amazed Chenxi.
It's warm, he thought.
After tucking the humans in and confirming that everything was in order, the mainframe turned and left. The moment it left, the lights in the room went out, creating an ideal sleeping environment.
That night, Chenxi slept soundly.
He also had a dream in which his sweet-voiced classmate, Xiao Ai, stood by his bedside and covered him with a blanket.
