Chapter 10 (12)
As they were chatting, a person suddenly fell down on the other side of the lawn.
Yu Rui was the first to see it and quickly ran over with her toast dress in hand. The area was full of onlookers.
It was Weng Yue. He was lying on his back, his face wide open, his mouth slightly open, unconscious.
If they called an ambulance, everyone would follow, but they requested that family members accompany them. This would make it easier to make decisions in case of an emergency. Yu Rui nudged Han Guang and said, "Go ahead." Han Guang was reluctant and called Xi Qian.
Han Xiqian muttered, "Don't I have an uncle? It's not my turn."
After the incident, everyone remembered that Weng Yang was also there. So, Weng Yang and his daughter followed the ambulance to the hospital. Yu Rui was worried; after all, the problem had occurred at her wedding. They still had to maintain their relationship, so she insisted on following.
Yu Jia quickly persuaded, "I'll go, you stay."
She just wanted to avoid Bai Yuankai.
They rushed to the hospital. Emergency treatment was administered. The patient was saved. The doctor warned against drinking on an empty stomach. Weng Yang smiled apologetically, saying it wouldn't happen again. But Weng Yue had no intention of giving her brother face. Opening her eyes, she saw Weng Yang's old face and sent him away with a pale face. She couldn't accept her brother's "betrayal." For so many years, whose legs had Weng Yang leaned on? Who had helped him raise his daughter? One must not be ungrateful!
In the ward, Weng Yang couldn't stand the humiliation and started arguing with his sister.
Yu Jia had no choice but to persuade both sides.
Weng Yang howled, "That's enough! If you want to show off, you need people to be willing to play your piano! Without you being the middleman, I'd be damn rich!"
He also felt wronged, and he remained silent.
Yu Jia finally persuaded Weng Yang and his daughter to leave, and returned to the bedside to accompany Weng Yue. Weng Yue cheered up and said, "Sister, I'm fine, you can go."
Yu Jia said: "Take it easy on yourself."
Weng Yue was filled with sorrow, her eyes reddening again. "How can I be relieved? Everyone has a clue. Yu Rui is also a piece of shit, intercepting them halfway. This leftover rice is so delicious..."
Yu Jia couldn't agree with her, fearing it would escalate the conflict, so he had to change his angle to put out the fire. Then he smiled and said, "Do you know how many people envy you? You have a successful career and financial freedom. It's time to enjoy life. If I were you, I would never consider remarrying."
Weng Yue was merciless, "Okay, sister, you have the confidence because you have an ace as a backup."
Ace? She knew everything? Yu Jia was shocked.
Weng Yue continued, "Anyone can see how much Bai Yuankai feels about you."
Yu Jia immediately said, "Ordinary friends."
"Those with stories said they were just ordinary friends at first." Weng Yue curled her lips.
Yu Jia said anxiously: "I swear to God, I will never..."
"Okay, big sister, there's no need to be so cruel. We're just together, so what?"
"The key is no."
Weng Yue didn't say anything further, and leaned his head against the pillow. "I'm not afraid to tell you the truth. Yu Rui picked up an old man, and I didn't think anything of it, but I'm quite jealous of Yu Meng."
Yu Jia smiled but said nothing.
"You say she's such a terrible person, willful, selfish, vain, competitive, and possesses all the flaws a woman should and shouldn't have. Why do all men fall for her? Just because of her face? I think she's getting old."
Yu Jia had no choice but to say that everyone has their own preferences.
"Only Old Luan is willing to work on her weird project..." Weng Yue hesitated to speak.
"What happened to Lao Luan?" Yu Jia asked.
At the wedding scene, on the lawn, Weng Yue was pulled away and the crowd gradually regained their joy.
Xiqian found her father. "Dad, I want to tell you something." She said without hesitation.
Han Guang was wearing a suit and his forehead was covered with sweat. He nodded.
"I want to be with Bai Yuankai, you have to help me."
"Stop messing around!" Han Guang acted like a parent.
"I support you, and you have to support me too. We need to support each other," Xi Qian insisted. Yuan Kai was lingering nearby, his glass of wine in hand. Xi Qian simply walked over and put her arm around him. Yuan Kai accidentally spilled half the wine.
"Qianqian!" Han Guang blushed. He was choking with anger. Yu Rui emerged from the room, seeing the scene, and hurried forward. Han Guang whispered a few words to her. Yu Rui patted his shoulder, reassuring him. She walked over alone, smiling, and asked Yuan Kai to step aside for a moment.
She took Xiqian's arm and walked to the bottom of the flower gate. After they stopped, she said, "Qianqian, no matter who you like, your auntie will support you."
"Really?" Xi Qian's brows lit up with joy.
Yu Rui added, "But my support is useless. The man has to agree."
Xi Qian turned off the engine and rolled her eyes.
Yu Rui continued, "Do you know about that?"
"What?"
"When Lao Bai was out there, a princess wanted to recruit him as her husband, but he refused."
"Know."
Yu Rui pointed to the top of her head and said, "People like Lao Bai, let's be frank. They have excellent conditions, their eyes are set on this, and their requirements are also very high."
"Gao," Xi Qian sneered, "I think he doesn't care about people, he likes a middle-aged man..."
Yu Rui understood a little and interrupted, "Can you sing Kunqu opera?"
Xi Qian shook her head.
Yu Rui smiled, "Let me tell you why Lao Bai likes that person. It's because she's classical, can sing Kunqu Opera, is as quiet as a chrysanthemum, and as elegant as an orchid. She has the resilience of bamboo and the strength of plum. She has all the qualities of plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum." After a pause, she continued, "How could Lao Bai like you when you're so aggressive?"
"Then I have to be myself."
"Yes, you have that right, but others also have the right not to appreciate you or dislike you," Yu Rui said, hugging Xi Qian. "Qian Qian, there are thousands of kinds of ugliness, but most people have the same concept of beauty. If you want to find someone excellent, you can, but first you have to become excellent yourself. It doesn't mean that you are excellent just because there are hundreds of millions waiting for you to inherit, and you don't have that now. Beauty should come from the inside out, understand?"
Xi Qian gestured thoughtfully, "From the inside out."
Haoyu came closer. Yu Rui teased, "Haoyu, is Qianqian beautiful?"
"Beautiful." Haoyu said without hesitation.
"How beautiful."
Haoyu thought quickly, "Good figure, beautiful."
Xi Qian spat, "You know shit! Beauty should come from the inside out!"
…
The project had just made some new progress when another rainstorm hit.
Once it starts, it won’t stop.
The streets were flooded, and Yu Meng and Luan Chengyun could only hide on the second floor.
Yu Meng wants to go out in a boat.
Luan tried to dissuade him, "Are you crazy? People will die!"
Yu Meng yelled, "The project is finished, what's the difference between that and death!"
After much difficulty borrowing a small boat from the landlord, and spending a large sum of money to hire the landlord's eldest son as a guide, the three of us put on life jackets, picked up the oars, and rowed out of town, heading towards the Moon City construction site. Everywhere we went, we saw a vast expanse of water.
Floods were surging on the streets, all the ground-floor houses were closed, a large amount of debris was floating on the water, and garbage was blocking the outlets.
The rain has eased a bit, but it hasn't stopped completely.
A snake was struggling in the water. As a small boat passed by it, the snake struggled to get on board. Yu Meng screamed in shock and tried desperately to push it off with a plastic paddle.
At the entrance to the col, several large trees fell in the middle of the road, traffic was interrupted, and the place was in a mess.
They were ready to head into the mountains, where the terrain was slightly higher, but the landlord's son refused to accompany them any further. Luan Chengyun offered to increase the fee, but he still refused. Luan Chengyun understood him. He was afraid of never returning.
Luan advised: "Just treat it as nothing."
"I want to see him alive or his body dead!" Yu Meng was too obsessed.
Moon City, all her hard work, her persistence, her dream.
Luan Chengyun fished for cigarettes, but failed twice. Only then did he realize that both packs of cigarettes he had with him had fallen into the flood.
Seeing Luan Chengyun hesitate, Yu Meng was also a little scared.
"Will you accompany me?" she asked.
Luan's face, hidden in the raincoat, was still as cynical as ever. "I'll stick with you till the end."
The mountain road was rugged, and the two of them, like fearless pioneers, walked side by side, steadily advancing. The rain had completely stopped. Yu Meng's mood improved a little, and his pace quickened.
Luan smiled and asked, "Is this thing really that important?"
“Important, very important, very important!”
"What if he dies?" Luan asked.
"Don't be such a jinx!"
"Honestly, what if only one of us survives this trip?" Luan hesitated to speak.
"Then the living one will take care of the funeral arrangements for the dead one!" Yu Meng shouted.
Luan wants to high-five Yu Meng.
Yu Meng clapped his hands reluctantly.
"What if they are all alive?" he asked again.
"Just live." She was puzzled.
He smiled and said, "If you're still alive, we'll remarry!"
She paused for a moment and continued on her way.
"That won't do. To be alive, I need to be successful in my career and be happy and content."
"Honestly." His face turned serious.
"Everything I said is true."
He didn't respond.
Yu Meng continued, "Don't make demands just because you help me a little. Let's put it this way. If this project is successful, I will give you shares. I, Yu Meng, am not an ungrateful person." Luan Chengyun smiled but said nothing.
After crossing the mountain pass, they arrived at the Moon City construction site. Yu Meng lamented, "I really can't bear to look." Luan supported her and urged, "Take a look and leave." After rounding the hillside, Moon City came into view. Yu Meng looked up, but she couldn't see any trace of it.
"Where?" she asked anxiously.
Luan Chengyun had already seen the truth.
He said nothing. His condolences.
Torrential rains hit the city, landslides occurred, and Moon City has been buried underground by mudslides. Only the messy building materials on the surface can prove that it once existed.
Yu Meng rubbed her eyes and saw clearly. She could hardly stand.
Luan held her. "Just treat it as a dream." He could still be optimistic. But she couldn't. Yu Meng's tears burst forth harder than the rain! She had invested her entire fortune, her heart, and her soul in this project. She'd die if it didn't work out! God! Why were they going against her? And the local officials! Didn't they say this place was impenetrable, impervious to fire and water? A Feng Shui treasure that would never be affected?! How could a few rainstorms turn it into the Titanic?! It sank so quickly.
Yu Meng fell to the ground crying, and it started raining again.
Luan Chengyun advised, "Mengmeng, if things don't get better in the east, they will get better in the west. Just consider this a lesson learned and let's go back and start over."
Yu Meng still refused to leave, as if she was mourning for the dead.
The rain was falling again. Luan Chengyun tried to persuade her several times, but Yu Meng refused to leave, insisting on going around the mountain to see if there were any remaining "ruins." Having seen the Buddha off to the west, Luan had no choice but to help Yu Meng pack her raincoat, and the two of them set off again.
The rain had soaked the mountain, leaving the path slushy and muddy. One of Lao Luan's shoes got stuck in the mud, and he couldn't pull it out, so he simply took off the other and walked barefoot. After more than half an hour, the two finally reached the other side of the mountain, but Moon City, like Pompeii, was sunken in the mud.
Yu Meng was desperate.
She walked toward the cliff face in a daze. Luan Chengyun, thinking she was losing her mind, reached out to pull her back, but her bare feet slipped, and with a stumble, Yu Meng and he both fell down the slope. Yu Meng's body fell flat on her back. Old Luan was headfirst, feet up in the air, tumbling headfirst into the mud.
