Chapter 10 (4)
Standing halfway up the mountain and looking down, Yu Meng felt like a god.
Goddess.
It's time for women to be God.
Whatever you say, it's what it is. There's light, everything, people... and Moon City. As soon as Boss Min's funding arrived, Moon City boomed. She had faith in the project. Confidentiality was well maintained, the local government was supportive, and the surrounding environment was pleasant. Most importantly, the flow of capital was constantly passing through this area, making anyone tempted to give it a try.
Yu Meng was followed by several locals, including bodyguards, guides, translators, and supervisors sent by local partners. Last night, she received news from a female entrepreneur that Lao Han had been restricted from leaving the country.
Yu Meng pondered deeply. She knew a little about Lao Han's affairs from her circle, and if they continued to play along, trouble would inevitably arise. Yu Meng felt fortunate. This had two meanings. First, after breaking up with Liang Cai, she had originally intended to target Lao Han, and she was grateful for his initial "coldness." If she had truly taken over the mountain, she would now be Lao Han's lover, inevitably subject to investigation. Not only would Moon City, but the wind farm project would likely be affected as well. Second, she was grateful that after Lao Han's incident, the group no longer had any involvement in the Myanmar project. This effectively cleared the issue, ensuring that even a subsequent investigation would not affect innocent people.
She is safe.
Yu Meng sighed, "Life is full of twists and turns! Who knows? Maybe just to fulfill her wish, Lao Han got into trouble, the group was ruined, the world was in chaos, and she was the only one who benefited."
Yu Meng couldn't help but think of the story of Love in a Fallen City written by Eileen Chang. With everything going on, she didn't feel her place in history was subtle.
Min Jianzhong's deputy called to discuss the capital injection issue. Yu Meng spent a lot of time explaining the situation. The key point was: once the first phase of the Moon Palace was built and the license was obtained, they could open for business. Once it was up and running, the money would start rolling in, and the rest would be much easier. Everything was legal and compliant, permitted by the Myanmar government... They also wanted to earn foreign money... Victory was in sight, victory was in sight...
Yu Meng encouraged Min's men. The deputy said nothing, only confirming that the second installment of funds would arrive soon. "Don't worry, I'm watching. Nothing's wrong," Yu Meng chuckled, then said the signal was bad and it was time to hang up.
Yu Meng was truly able to endure hardship! She was building a hotel, but before it was even finished, she lived in the construction shed, sharing food and lodging with the workers. Most importantly, she didn't trust anyone. Moon City had to be perfect. The mosquitoes were numerous there, but thankfully Yu Meng had brought a mosquito net, and even after tying it up, her ears were still buzzing all night.
The signal in the valley was poor, intermittent, and it was impossible to access the internet. Yu Meng asked the translator to teach her a Burmese folk song. The translator taught her "The Seagull," saying it was very popular in the past, loved by Chinese people, and that Guan Muchun had even sung it.
Yu Meng asked what the song was about. The translator said it was a tribute to the Irrawaddy River, Myanmar's largest river. "Is that the river?" Yu Meng thought. She had passed by it but couldn't remember its name. The translator's words rekindled her desire to visit the river.
The rivers in Myanmar are different from those in China. They're still rivers, but perhaps because of the latitude, they're deeper and thicker here, with dense vegetation on both sides. The river, sandwiched between them, has a certain air of mystery. Yu Meng stood by the river, the trees behind her. The translator reminded her to move to a more open area, fearing snakes. Yu Meng quickly moved.
The moon hangs high in the sky. Insects and frogs chirp everywhere. A unique scene.
Yu Meng suddenly started singing, casually, Teresa Teng’s “The Place of First Love”, “I remember a place that I will never, ever forget. It was there that he and I fell in love and spent wonderful times together…”
The singing stopped abruptly. She didn't want to sing anymore.
The place of her first love… She actually thought of Luan Chengyun. She'd married after her first official relationship. Her first love was with Luan Chengyun, and the place was in a hospital. Bad luck! Don't sing, don't sing. Luan had always said she was his first love, too. Was that even possible? Who would believe that? Yu Meng took a deep breath, trying to quickly forget the unpleasantness.
There was a sudden rumbling sound behind me.
"Who set off the firecrackers?" Yu Meng turned to ask the little translator, "Or was it a fart?" She had a sense of humor.
The translator grabbed her, and Yu Meng lost her balance and fell flat on her face, eating dirt.
"You're crazy!" Yu Meng was furious. What did this mean? She was the boss! He was an employee, so rude!
Another thump. Sounded like a tractor.
The translator pressed Yu Meng's head.
Yu Meng reached out and slapped him. The translator put his finger to his lips and said, "Sh ...
Yu Meng got goosebumps all over her body. She finally understood that this wasn't the sound of a tractor. It was a gunshot!
…
When Yu Shuang received the tip-off, he felt as if his heart had been shot by a machine gun. It was an old classmate who had heard it from Bai Yuankai. Yuankai couldn't "leak" it, but if he wasn't careful, he could "save the country in a roundabout way."
Kang Long and Dr. Matsuko seem to be reuniting. They've been seen collecting materials together, eating in the cafeteria together, and watching movies together. It's said that Kang Long even met Dr. Matsuko's mother. Some students on campus have nicknamed them the "Condor Heroes."
Kang Long is Yang Guo, and Dr. Songzi is "Auntie".
Disgusting! Yu Shuang was unhappy. Was she jealous? A little, she admitted. Ever since they'd met, she'd always had the upper hand in her relationship with Kang Long. But now, unexpectedly, the situation had taken a turn. She was the weaker party. No, she had to fight back!
Yu Shuang stood gracefully at the classroom door.
After class, Kang Long came out of the classroom and Yu Shuang approached him, "Let's talk."
"I still have classes in the afternoon."
"It won't take up too much of your time."
The students started to make a fuss because there was something new happening with their handsome teacher.
Eat melon, eat melon.
Kang Long stopped the student and took Yu Shuang to his office, saying he had something to do at the school office and asked her to wait. She waited for half an hour. Yu Shuang felt bad. He hadn't been like this before. Did he really not care about her anymore? Just because she didn't marry him before his father died? Because she didn't fulfill his last wish? But she didn't know! If she knew the truth, she would definitely be willing to sacrifice herself.
Kanglong is back, looking exhausted.
"Go ahead." He was a teacher, listening to a student's academic report.
"There's a misunderstanding between us."
"There's no need to discuss this issue." Kang Long said coldly, "Is there anything else?" Yu Shuang was anxious, "You can't be so unfair! I didn't even know your father was sick! It was you who didn't tell me! If I knew... how could I... not... really... look forward!" She moved forward.
He stepped back, folding his arms, "Thank you for your reminder, I'm already looking forward." He looked at his watch, "I'm sorry, I may not be able to treat you to lunch." He was about to go out.
Yu Shuang didn't finish her words. "Wait a minute!" She pulled his arm. He gently broke free. "Why is this happening? I'm innocent. I don't know anything. Ignorance is not a crime. Why is my sin unforgivable?"
Kang Long said, "There's no need to repeat the same thing over and over again. I've already made it clear. You're right. I've changed. Marriage is about being well-matched. I want to find a woman who supports me, loves me, is willing to sacrifice for me, cooks for me, and bears my children."
"I can do it!" Yu Shuang burst into tears.
"You only love yourself!" Kang Long roared.
The phone rang, and Kang Long answered it. Someone at the hospital urgently needed him. He calmed himself, turned around, told Yu Shuang to remember to lock the door when she left, and hurried off. Yu Shuang sat alone in Kang Long's office. She sat in Kang Long's seat. This was an old-fashioned office building. The desk was also old-fashioned, with a large glass plate on top, beneath which were photos, newspapers, and other items. Suddenly, she noticed two boat ticket stubs pressed against the edge of the glass.
It was from the time they crossed the river to the island to ride the Ferris wheel and watch the fireworks. He still had it. But things had changed and people had changed… Yu Shuang cried even harder. Love, why the hell is it so torturous! How wonderful it would be if people didn't have any feelings!
The door opened. A woman entered, clutching several books and folders. She looked up and called out, "Lao Kang." Walking in, she discovered another woman was sitting in Kang Long's seat. Yu Shuang raised his head and scanned the room.
He is plain-looking, short, and wears glasses.
Dr. Matsuko?
The woman closed the door, smiled, and walked towards Yu Shuang step by step, extending her hand, "Hello."
Yu Shuang didn't shake it. Like a weasel wishing a happy new year to a chicken! She said nothing, turned her phone over, stuck it on the table, and stood up.
The woman put her hand away and said, as if calling the roll in class, "You are Yu Shuang."
Yu Shuang asked back, "You are Dr. Songzi."
The woman chuckled. "Yes, I'm studying pine nuts. Pine nuts and chestnuts both grow in the woods, a perfect match."
Demonstrations have begun. War is imminent.
Yu Shuang said: "Do you know what you are doing?"
"oh?"
"It's the mistress."
The woman's expression changed in an instant, and she twisted her body ninety degrees. "From what I know, you and Lao Kang broke up, right?"
"Nonsense!" Yu Shuang found that he was not good at quarreling at all.
"Women like you," Dr. Songzi chuckled, his voice neither too loud nor too soft, just enough to hit Yu Shuang hard, "you think you can do anything just because you're pretty. Men get tired too. Don't overestimate yourself. Is there such a big difference between one woman and another? What do you have more than me?" He turned serious and said sternly, "I knew you weren't a good person! You said bad things about me to Lao Kang! What's the point? You'll only make yourself look particularly low!"
What? What's that? When did she say anything bad? It's easy to find a pretext to accuse someone! It seems this woman is here just to start a fight.
Yu Shuang rolled up his sleeves.
The door opened again. When Kang Long entered, Dr. Songzi immediately put on a smile. He turned to the water dispenser, quickly pulled out a paper cup, and filled it with water. As he walked towards Yu Shuang, he said to Kang Long, "Drink some water and sit for a while. It's time to eat, right? Old Kang, it's not easy for Teacher Yu to come here. Let's go together."
Yu Shuang raised his arm and knocked over the cup of water, splashing all over Dr. Songzi.
Songzi screamed, her face full of grievance.
This is a university professor?! Yu Shuang cursed inwardly, even greener than a green tea bitch! Kang Long likes this kind of thing?! Is he blind?!
"That's enough!" Kang Long shouted, "Stop messing around here!"
"Savage?" He actually used that word on her! Yu Shuang grabbed her phone and yelled at Kang Long and Dr. Songzi, "You're capable!" She ran out.
Dr. Songzi followed, looking embarrassed, and said to Kang Long, "Old Kang... take a look..."
"Okay!" Kang Long also didn't want to hear her explanation.
