Chapter 2 (3)
After taking a shower, Yu Meng and Yu Rui smoked together. Yu Meng had been a heavy smoker for many years, and Yu Rui, who was in the acting circle and was depressed, also took up smoking because of the need for acting.
It was midnight, and Yu Meng wasn't really sleepy. Yu Rui was, having drunk too much and suffering from a headache. She didn't understand why Sister Meng was so determined to divorce her. Of course, she figured there must be some unspoken reason. Otherwise, with a villa, no work, a grown-up son, and a successful husband, everything was perfect. What more could she ask for?
"You're all fucking bastards!" Yu Meng suddenly cursed. In their divorce, Luan Chengyun had only given her two small apartments. In his words, one to live in, one to rent, enough for her to live on. Without proof of infidelity, going to court was pointless. Luan Chengyun had already begun quietly transferring assets, something businessmen excel at. If the courts were to decide, she might not even get the two small apartments. Luan Chengyun's point was that Yu Meng hadn't contributed to the family's financial growth. Therefore, she could only get the original assets.
Bah! Yu Menghen. No contribution? Giving birth to two sons doesn't count as a contribution? Taking care of the sons and the family for so many years doesn't count as a contribution? Even if she's just a vase, adding some decoration, that's still a contribution! How can you say she didn't contribute?
She was too lazy to argue with him, so she just left him.
Look, she has already started packing her luggage.
"Have you thought it through?" Yu Rui replied, feeling a little sorry for her.
"He did it," Yu Meng said. Of course, there were all those other dirty things that she didn't want to tell Rui about.
Yu Rui was silent.
"How long can a person live?" Yu Meng blew out smoke rings and continued to ask.
"Hmm?"
"One hundred? If you're in good health." Yu Meng flicked the ash from her cigarette. "Generally speaking, eighty is about right. You can't do much more if you live any longer." Before Yu Rui could respond, Yu Meng continued, "If you count at eighty, I've already passed half of my life. There's only half left." She smiled bitterly, "But it feels like I haven't done anything yet." She spread her hands.
Yu Rui joked, "Why didn't you do it? You've completed your social mission."
"Yes, society requires women to get married, have children, and have a marriage. I've experienced all of that," Yu Meng said. "Neither I nor society owes anyone anything. I just feel like I still have energy and can make a breakthrough." However, she kept the second half of her words to herself. Her goal in this adventure was simply to find love again and, along with it, wealth.
She believed she could find a man who was better, more successful, and more devoted to her than Luan Chengyun. A roar echoed from the room. The two men didn't move. They looked at each other. Another roar. This time, they could hear it clearly. Yu Shuang was talking in her sleep.
Yu Rui curled her lips and said to Yu Meng, "He's acting in a martial arts movie."
"What about you?" Yu Meng asked.
"Me," Yu Rui pointed at herself, "a drama."
"It should be a romance film." Yu Meng said.
"You're a romance."
"No, no, I'm a thriller romance." Yu Meng smiled. Yu Rui also laughed.
I thought Bai Yuankai was just joking, but I didn't expect him to be so concerned about Yu Shuang's personal situation. One after another, he introduced people to her. Two were rejected after meeting her, and three Yu Shuang never met at all. Yu Meng was dissatisfied with her nonchalant attitude. "Shuang, we can't do this! Xiaobai introduced us to high-quality resources. If you don't want them, give them to Rui. Don't waste them!" Yu Shuang said, "What high-quality resources? They're all rotten." Yu Meng said, "Don't be vague. Write down all your requirements one by one." Passing her a pen, Yu Shuang actually wrote.
Rule number one: Height must not be less than 1.80 meters, in parentheses, at least 1.79 meters. No more compromises. Rule number two: Looks must be 75 points. A little less impressive than Wallace Chung, but definitely not less impressive than Zhang Jie. Yu Meng couldn't place the name and asked, "Which Zhang Jie?" She thought it was someone she knew. "The singer," Yu Shuang replied. She had a fondness for Happy Boy, a nostalgia.
Yu Meng suddenly realized, "I've seen it." He took out a photo from his mobile phone.
Yu Shuang took a look and didn't know whether to laugh or cry, "Sister, this is Yang Di!"
The third point: being able to talk to each other. Yu Meng thought this one was a trap. What does it mean to be able to talk to each other? People in education, the internet, and media had all introduced themselves to him. But Yu Shuang felt that none of them were compatible, and he then labeled them as talkative. Yu Meng asked, "So, do you prefer someone who's talkative or someone who's quiet?"
Yu Shuang said, "It's more when it should be, and less when it shouldn't be," and added, "If you don't agree, there's no need to say too much."
Difficult. Seriously difficult. Meng and Rui both felt that a man who could get along with a middle-aged girl like Shuang, who exuded a masculine aura, was a rare animal.
After learning about this, Yu Jia also did a good job, "grasping the main contradictions, grasping the key points, observing the character, and looking at the problem from a developmental perspective." She now speaks with a bit of the style of a female politician.
Those who are close to vermilion become red.
But she also had the right to say that when it came to love and marriage, Yu Jia had always been considered a big winner in investment. She'd bought into promising stocks and made a killing. But Yu Meng concluded that Sister Jia's success couldn't be replicated.
It's all fate.
Fortunately, Yu Shuang was lucky. After a while, Bai Yuankai actually found someone who met his requirements. He was good-looking, not quite as good-looking as Wallace Chung, but definitely better than Zhang Jie (so Yu Meng thought). He had a master's degree in China and a doctorate abroad. He had shared a house with Yuankai in the United States. He was a crop researcher, specializing in chestnuts.
"Example?" Yu Shuang was puzzled. "What example? You are also in education?" She thought he was giving an example.
Yu Meng explained, "Food: chestnuts, chestnuts, and sugar-roasted chestnuts." Yu Rui joked, "Someone's already bought the autumn oil chestnuts. Sister Shuang, I'm applying for a lifetime free membership." Yu Shuang was embarrassed. Researching chestnuts to the point of a doctorate was truly bizarre. Yu Meng advised, "Xiaobai said he's a very good person and well-educated. You should go. It's better to kill a thousand people by mistake than to let one go."
Yu Shuang looked at Meng, then at Rui, and tentatively asked, "Meet?"
Yu Rui smiled and said, "I'll see."
Yu Meng said: "Wait a minute! I have a hard request."
Yu Shuang curled her lips. Yu Rui listened attentively.
Kang Long, a 36-year-old male, holds a doctorate in chestnut research. He currently teaches at a university, owns a house and a car, is handsome, and has little dating experience. The reason for this is unknown. Among his blind date requirements, he has a hard requirement: he wants the woman to have long, straight hair. Upon hearing this, Yu Shuang immediately dismissed it, saying it wouldn't grow long hair for days. But this didn't faze Meng and Rui. In Yu Meng's suitcase, there were over a dozen long wigs to choose from. Pick any color.
Yu Shuang, sporting long black hair, walked into the barbecue restaurant. It was magical. She herself couldn't quite figure out why she'd made such a compromise. She liked Kang Long's looks. But it was his temperament; this guy exuded a kind, easygoing demeanor. So, let's meet him.
Strangely enough, with her long hair and the suit carefully selected by Sister Shuang, Yu Shuang seemed to have become more ladylike. She walked with a less swagger, tucked her hips in, and smiled, striving to impress others. Yu Jia had repeatedly reminded her that compromise was necessary, whether in love or marriage. But Yu Shuang believed that compromise only required that she still liked the person. Otherwise, damn it!
"Hello." When they arrived, Yu Shuang bowed slightly and greeted.
Kang Long quickly stood up. Judging by his eyes, he was about 1.8 meters tall. Passed.
"Hello." Kang Long waved his hand gentlemanly and asked her to take a seat.
Yu Shuang sat down and took off her coat. It was cold, but the temperature inside was still quite pleasant. Yu Shuang's cleavage was revealed—even when her career was booming, Yu Shuang had never considered it—but not today. Her styling and persona were all arranged according to Sister Meng's instructions.
Watch carefully. Sure enough, a flash of light crossed Kang Long's eyes. But only for a moment. Gentlemen shouldn't stare at a girl's breasts.
"Order," Yu Shuang smiled. Kang Long quickly followed suit. At a barbecue restaurant, meat was the main focus. Yu Shuang was a carnivore, but since it was their first meeting, Rui had said she should be reserved, so she only ordered vegetables—leeks, mushrooms, and the like—to prove her herbivore status. Meat, for the men.
After ordering, Kang Long pulled out a rather large brown paper bag. Yu Shuang took it and nodded slightly, implying she was asking what it was. Kang Long quickly said, "A new variety I've cultivated." Yu Shuang opened it. A bag of caterpillars? Her hands trembled with fear, and the "caterpillars" rolled all over the floor. They were chestnuts. That's what unpeeled chestnuts look like. Hairy and fuzzy.
Yu Shuang is most afraid of caterpillars in his life.
The waiter helped pick them up. Kang Long was also busy. Yu Shuang was reluctant and didn't go up to help. The "accident" happened just a few minutes after they met. Yu Shuang didn't think there was any "story" left between him and Mr. Kang. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Kang Long said repeatedly, still gentlemanly. Yu Shuang said it was okay. After a while, Kang Long produced another bag of things from nowhere. He opened it and found chestnuts again. This time there were fewer, and they were peeled. Yu Shuang was not afraid.
He said he would make charcoal-roasted chestnuts for her on the spot.
Fell into the chestnut pile. Yu Shuang was both angry and amused.
While waiting for the food, they needed something to talk about. Kang Long was in charge of finding topics.
"Are you Yuan Kai's?..."
"Junior sister."
"I am his senior brother." Typical of someone trying to find something to talk about.
Yu Shuang lifted her hair, feeling itchy.
"Yuan Kai is excellent." He praised.
"Yes," she replied.
The conversation ran out. It seemed their only common topic was Bai Yuankai. They were both older, and neither wanted to ask the same questions as the younger generation. Just being able to meet for dinner and get to know each other was the utmost sincerity.
“You do education.”
“Online education.”
"Teach people a lesson."
"No, no, it's mainly for teaching," she corrected. "It's like science and engineering." After a pause, she returned the favor and asked, "Are chestnut trees tall or short?"
“Not short.”
“Then how do we pick it?”
"When they're ripe, they'll fall to the ground on their own. You can also hit them with something."
Good thing. She didn't ask any more questions. She really wasn't interested in chestnuts. After a while, the meat and vegetables came up. The waiter lit the charcoal fire, and the two people held the tongs and roasted them quietly. Yu Shuang wanted to tease him, so he leaned back and asked, "How is it?"
"Ah?" Kang Long couldn't respond.
"What do you think of me?" Yu Shuang smiled, "Tell the truth."
"fine."
She touched her hair, and the wig was naughty and kept jumping forward, so she had to push it back.
"Tell the truth," she emphasized again.
"Gorgeous and beautiful." He was telling the truth.
The barbecue was ready. He placed some in her bowl. She quickly thanked him. After a few slices, she offered to try roasting some chestnuts. Kang Long peeled the raw chestnuts, which had been cut open, and placed them on the baking sheet. Soon, the aroma of chestnuts filled the air. Yu Shuang liked the smell, and half-standing, she leaned over to smell it. The wig playfully moved forward again, dangling above the baking sheet. With a burst of fire, the wig suddenly burst into flames.
Kang Long was stunned with fear.
Yu Shuang screamed and quickly pried and pulled the wig with the end of chopsticks. The wig instantly fell off his scalp and fell to the ground on one side, burning.
The customers jumped around in shock.
Yu Shuang covered his head, unable to bear to look at Kang Long's astonished face.
