Chapter 3 (9)
A man of trust must be loyal to his trust. Even as the concert hall was nearly empty, Yu Meng remained, determined to ensure a successful and beautiful event, showcasing her abilities to the fullest. She had to hand over everything to the concert hall staff, get all the flowers to the car, and meticulously check every seat to see if any guests had left behind any belongings.
She returned it on his behalf, and this back and forth became another social interaction.
The staff went to get the settlement statement and prepared to give it to Yu Meng.
The lights dimmed. The housekeeping staff hadn't arrived yet.
Yu Meng took light steps, lifting the seats one by one, humming a song. It was Teresa Teng's "You Are in My Heart," a cover version by Faye Wong.
Looking up, I saw a dark figure! Yu Meng screamed.
Looking closely, there was a large mass on the front seat. It wasn't a ghost, it was a person.
"It's over." Yu Meng yelled at him, motioning him to leave.
It's simply The Phantom of the Opera.
The man turned around and stood up, the light from the entrance shining thinly on his face.
Yu Meng was both surprised and happy.
What a talented person!
"Aren't you leaving yet?" She said playfully, feeling relieved.
"Waiting for someone."
"The Xin family has all left." She thought he was waiting for Mr. Xin.
"Wait for someone else."
"who?"
"Waiting for you." Liangcai's voice was full of magnetism. Very deep. Powerful.
He waited patiently for a long time.
Yu Meng giggled. After their last dinner, she had deliberately reduced her contact with him. Playing hard to get. "Nothing to do, huh? Help me..." Yu Meng hadn't finished her words when, in the darkness, Zu Liang pressed down on her, one hand wrapping around her waist from behind, the other holding her arm, lips pressed against hers.
It's like a mountain pressing down on you. There's nowhere to escape.
Yu Meng was caught off guard. She lay sprawled on her seat, like Sun Wukong subdued by the Five Finger Mountain. "Someone!" she finally managed to pull her mouth away. Liangcai was still holding her down. The cleaning lady passed by. The two men stood motionless, as if in ambush. As the cleaning lady passed by, the emergency exit door slammed shut.
The raging fire rekindled the dry wood.
They kissed for nearly a minute.
The staff member is called Teacher Yu. He came to give the order.
Yu Meng stood up in a panic. She simply fixed her hair and clothes, then deliberately turned to Liang Cai and said, "Go get the car."
"Okay, Mr. Yu." Liangcai cooperated very well.
From that kiss, Liangcai and Yu Meng finally connected, their connection. That night, they were bound to make love, oblivious to the world. At their age, there was no need to be shy.
Get straight to the point.
Liangcai had wanted to go to his own house, a bit out of the way, but Yu Meng disagreed and opted for a five-star hotel instead. Don't worry, he didn't have to register. Using her ID card to book a room—it would be a protection for him. They'd been holding back for too long, and in a fierce battle, both of them were fully committed. Yu Meng was satisfied with Liangcai. At fifty, still in his prime, with the lingering charm of his youth, he could fight again. Liangcai felt that Yu Meng was even better than he'd expected. She was a good woman. He regretted not meeting her fifteen years earlier—if they had, they would have been Lü Bu and Diao Chan. A beauty for a hero. But it wasn't too late now.
It is enough to have one true friend in life.
The next morning, Yangcai woke up with sleepy eyes. After all, he was old, and a night of passion required physical strength. The sound of a hairdryer could be heard from the bathroom.
Yu Meng came out barefoot, looking as light as a swallow. "Order breakfast," he said gently.
"I have something else to do. I have a meeting to attend." She said deliberately.
He is clearly the number one idler in the world.
"I'll be right there. Let's go."
"Aren't you afraid of being seen?" Yu Meng smiled.
"You are single, I am single too, we have the freedom to fall in love." He said boldly.
"You understand, but I'm not your mistress."
Liangcai corrected himself, "I've never had a mistress." He added, "It's a normal relationship, with legitimate and reasonable emotional needs."
"That's not right." Yu Meng still smiled and quickly put on her clothes.
"Something's wrong."
"Just spending one night together doesn't mean you're in love." Yu Meng didn't even give Liangcai a chance to say more, and continued to put on her shoes. "See you later." After saying that, she really walked out the door without looking back.
Deep down, Yu Meng couldn't help but applaud herself. Yes, that was the way to go, free and easy. She couldn't be like the average woman, clinging to a man even after a night out. She needed to have the right mindset; she wasn't the prey, she was the hunter. At this stage, she needed to show some form of attitude—the fish hadn't taken the hook yet, so she couldn't pull it up rashly.
The ideal situation is like Jiang Taigong fishing, whoever is willing to take the bait will be caught. A straight hook can also catch big fish.
Yu Meng thought she understood men - men like to chase, and if they don't make some effort, they will never know how to cherish.
The game has just begun.
Yu Jia, by contrast, had a rather unhappy night. Di Liren remained silent all the way from the concert hall to his home. He immediately retreated to his study. They still slept in separate beds. The next evening, he returned home and continued reading Capital. Yu Jia couldn't figure out what he had done wrong. Neither the left nor the right, neither the nose nor the eyes.
Finally, she couldn't help but said, "Old Di, if you have any opinions about me, you can tell me directly."
Di Liren put down Das Kapital, revealing his full face. Drooped and gloomy. Every time Sisi flipped through the old photos, she'd say, "Dad has changed." Liren remained silent. Yu Jia could only explain, "He's gained weight, that's what happens when you get older." Her daughter believed him. But it was more than just weight gain. Appearance reflects the heart. As one ages, one's face reveals one's inner state. Liren's face used to be handsome, but now it's fierce. It's all forced upon him. He thinks too much, worries too much, and has too many desires. Yu Jia felt sorry for her husband.
"There's no need to hide anything from me." Li Ren said.
Yu Jia was surprised.
Li Ren complained, "You didn't even tell me you knew the Xin family."
Oh, that's what happened. After the concert, Yu Jia finally understood: everyone wanted to befriend the Xin family. Li Ren was no exception. But she was just a peripheral person helping out. They had nothing to do with her.
Yu Jia had no choice but to explain: "I don't know him. Yu Meng knew him and asked me to help. You were not at home, so I didn't tell you. It happened in the past few days."
Li Ren said, "I didn't hear you tell me that Yu Meng knew me earlier."
Yu Jia was also a little unhappy, "Who does she know who would tell me?"
Liren remained silent. Coming to the big city, he felt the pressures. He didn't realize how complex the situation was until he arrived. Everyone had someone to lean on, and he was alone. The veteran cadres in his hometown had urged him to come, saying he was young and promising, ready to take a step forward. Liren did want to improve. Now he understood: it wasn't that those veterans didn't want to come, but that they didn't dare. Hiding in their hometown, they could enjoy a comfortable life. Here, if they didn't advance, they would retreat, forcing them to forge ahead.
Yu Jia saw Li Ren's thoughts and said, "I know you've worked hard, but you need to understand why you're here. You're here to serve the people. Don't worry about the rest. What's yours will be yours sooner or later. What's not yours is useless to worry about."
Li Ren felt that Yu Jia's words sounded like his boss, or perhaps even a high school politics teacher. "You don't have to tell me!" Li Ren was annoyed.
"If it really doesn't work out, I'll find a chance to go back in the future. We can just live an ordinary life, what's wrong with that?" Yu Jia said from the bottom of his heart.
This sentence stung Liren deeply. Go back? How? Go back by being demoted? Wouldn't that mean he, Di Liren, had backed out? A hero turning into a coward would be a laughingstock! He couldn't be a traitor! Forward, forward, forward!
"I feel like this is a pretty boring place..." Yu Jia analyzed.
This was her true feeling. In a big city, everyone was busy and hustling. That invisible pressure was given to you by the city, by the collective aura formed by everyone, by the shared will of millions of people. You had to succeed, you had to succeed.
If you don't succeed, you will die.
Yu Jia never set her life goal on becoming a "superior." When she married Li Ren, he was still in the countryside, and she imagined moving to the city, buying a house, getting a job, and having her children go to college. She never imagined that success would eventually lead her to this point.
“Not as good as…” Yu Jia lowered his head, holding a rag in his hand, and was about to wipe the table after dinner.
Duang! The teacups on the table seemed to be on a trampoline.
"Unreasonable!" Di Liren yelled, then turned around and went back to the study.
Yu Jia was left standing there alone.
My daughter Sisi shouted from inside the house, "Mom! Keep your voice down! This is for hearing tests!"
It was all her fault. Yu Jia had inexplicably become the target of public criticism.
