Chapter 2 (12)

Chapter 2 (12)

With Bai Yuankai's support, Yu Meng gained a vote of confidence and quickly entered Mrs. Xin's social circle.

Knowing people is key. Yu Meng discovered that Mrs. Xin was surrounded by many political and business celebrities. Compared to them, Luan Chengyun was just a small-time boss.

Heh... cough... bah!

This further convinced Yu Meng that her divorce was the right and wisest decision. The world was vast, so why should she continue to endure the young boss's wrath? She'd even received a humiliating slap—what was the big deal? She'd merely interrupted during a business conversation. He was right? He'd had so many affairs over the years! She'd simply turned a blind eye. With the children, she couldn't really do anything about it; otherwise, she'd have fought him long ago. However, having just entered Mrs. Xin's "territory," Yu Meng could only secure the "jobs" of "coach driver" and "doorman."

Whenever a Xin family-owned company held a large event, Yu Meng was called in to "help out": first, to pick up guests, and second, to greet them. For example, on this particular day, she picked up a "leader" named Zu. His car broke down along the way, and Mrs. Xin dispatched Yu Meng to help. Yu Meng obeyed the order and performed the task with flying colors. She introduced herself as a member of the Women Entrepreneurs Association and a friend of Mrs. Xin. She hesitated to add the word "good" just yet; good friends had to be personally certified by Mrs. Xin. Of course, after meeting him, she conducted extensive research on Zu: he was in his early fifties, a young, divorced man with a daughter studying abroad.

He has a handsome appearance, a bit like the actor in a certain tonic commercial. He is superior to Luan Chengyun in every aspect.

Yu Meng wasn't in a rush; meeting the person was just a formality. She was reserved, as if out of her usual self. She answered each question, speaking only briefly, but making sure to showcase her graceful figure, temperament, and beauty. After meeting the person at their destination and escorting them inside, she stood at the entrance of the hotel, helping to greet guests.

Luan Chengyun actually came towards him head on.

Damn it! When did he even get on this ship?! Bastard! Yu Meng cursed in her heart. She instinctively wanted to hide. But then she thought, why should I be afraid of him?

So it continued to stand upright.

Luan Chengyun approached. His face had become a bit darker, as if he had just returned from Southeast Asia.

"New job?" he asked provocatively.

"Get out of the way!" Yu Meng suppressed her voice, still smiling, to others. To Luan Chengyun, she only scolded him.

"Did you deliver the message?" he asked again. He was referring to Yu Jia's message asking for a remarriage.

Yu Meng was confused. "I don't know you."

"I agree to remarry."

Yu Meng had to walk away, unable to pester him, "I don't have time to act with you!"

Luan Chengyun followed closely, speaking faster, "Which one do you like? Do you want me to help you screen them? Our two sons are not easy to deal with." He still had a playful smile on his face.

"Shameless!" Yu Meng was successfully enraged. When a customer passed by, she immediately smiled again—albeit a little awkwardly.

"You should go do Sichuan Opera." Luan Chengyun stretched out his hands and waved them in front of his face, imitating the sounds of "pa pa pa". "Face changing, your strong point."

Unable to bear Luan Chengyun's constant teasing, Yu Meng hurried back to the venue. Mrs. Xin approached, and Yu Meng, grasping at a lifeline, stepped forward. Mrs. Xin grasped Yu Meng's hand, thanking her for her hard work. Yu Meng quickly replied, "Of course, of course." Luan Chengyun approached and greeted Mr. Xin. They had a brief business encounter before, and Mr. Xin had a high opinion of Luan.

Yu Meng watched Luan Chengyun and Mr. Xin flirting with each other, feeling rather unhappy. The joy she'd felt from being in touch with Mrs. Xin seemed to have been halved. Seeing Yu Meng constantly looking over her shoulder, Mrs. Xin added, "That's Xiao Luan, my husband's friend. He's involved in all sorts of business, quite capable, and just got divorced. I'll introduce you to him later." As she spoke, Mrs. Xin patted Yu Meng's hand, as if to assure her.

Yu Meng hummed twice, stunned. Meeting an enemy on a single-plank bridge, the enemy's path is narrow.

"Miss Yu," someone called her. She looked up and saw it was Zu. He was looking for her. Yu Meng didn't want Luan Chengyun to see this, lest he use any clues to cause trouble one day.

Yu Meng hurried away, and before turning back she whispered to Zu, "Sorry, I'm a bit busy," and added, "WeChat is the phone number." Glancing out of the corner of her eye, she found that Luan Chengyun was indeed looking at her.

After the family gathering, Yu Shuang felt a bit conflicted about her attitude towards Kang Long. They weren't breaking up, but she wasn't entirely satisfied with Kang Long's performance. Shuang felt Rui's analysis was correct: Kang Long was virgin land, chaotic in both its upside and its downside.

She must create the world like Pangu before she can straighten out the relationship.

With his pleasant appearance and scholarly temperament, he was Yu Shuang's type. However, Kang Long sometimes made people feel that he didn't care about you at all. Otherwise, why would he buy wife cakes for himself and only count the money he won? He didn't consider these social customs and was even more "out of touch with the world" than Yu Shuang.

Occasionally, you'd feel he truly cared. Otherwise, why would Yu Shuang's name even be listed as the insurance beneficiary? Yu Shuang joked, "Aren't you afraid I'll harm you and then take the money?" Kang Long emphasized, "Didn't we say after we get married?" He brought up marriage again, the future already set. But he never seriously proposed. For years, when it came to relationships, Yu Shuang had always adhered to one bottom line: equality. Men and women must be equal, women shouldn't serve men or pamper them. Yet, deep down, she couldn't help but occasionally wish for a man to pamper her a little. In the past, this "position" was held by her mother—she was so dedicated and so good at her job that Kang Long looked like a slacker, incompetent, and lazy person. If he were a company employee, Yu Shuang would have fired him long ago. But that didn't apply to relationships.

The flag is raised by oneself. Equality.

Conlon agreed, "I just love your sense of equality."

He praised seriously, as if he was commenting on an academic report.

Yu Shuang felt a little awkward listening to it.

Kang Long said: "We were equals from the beginning."

Yu Shuang didn't understand.

Kang Long explained, "My mother died, and your mother died too. It's equal."

Although Yu Shuang didn't quite agree that this was equality, the two people were able to get together because of this coincidence.

"You have a house and I have a house too," he said, counting on his fingers.

And equal.

Yu Shuang deliberately picked a thorn, "You are a PhD, I am a Master, this is not equal."

Kang Long quickly waved his hands, "No, no, you can cook, I can't. You have a master's degree in cooking, which is equivalent to a doctorate."

Barely equal.

Yu Shuang continued to pick, "Your father is alive, and my father is dead. It's not equal."

Kang Long quickly said, "You have a younger brother, also a boy, who corresponds to my father and is equal."

"The age is different."

"Your brother has two children, and their total number is almost the same as my dad's." It's ridiculous, but this can be considered equality.

However, the rule of equality between the two was soon broken. On Qingming Festival, Yu Shuang accompanied Kang Long to visit the graves. After returning, he was just planning to go to Shuang's mother's grave again. A delegation from Kang Long's school was going to visit Israel. It was a rare opportunity and he couldn't miss it. Yu Shuang had to compromise temporarily, but he was angry and couldn't help complaining to Yu Rui. Yu Rui persuaded, "I'll go with you. Isn't this a special case and special treatment?" Yu Shuang said, "I'll do his business regardless of weather conditions, but you treat me differently? What kind of person is that!"

Yu Rui said, "How can it be so clear? Men and women are in a cooperative relationship, not a parallel one. If we treat them as equals in every way, it would be exhausting."

Yu Shuang was annoyed. "I didn't see him accommodating me at all! I'm a woman, so I shouldn't take advantage of him."

Yu Rui laughed and said, "You are just a fake feminist."

As he was speaking, his phone rang. It was Kang Long. He was in the hotel over there, and he hadn't forgotten to pray for Shuang's mother. He wanted to recite the Great Compassion Mantra over the video.

"Go ahead," Yu Shuang propped her phone up there. She and Yu Rui went to get a face mask. Yu Meng hadn't returned yet. Yu Rui smiled and said, "See, that's good. Even on Jesus's territory, they're chanting the Great Compassion Mantra for you. What else do you want?" Yu Shuang scoffed, calling him a mere formalist.

Yu Rui asked again: "You two can use the money separately."

"Of course." Yu Shuang thought this was natural. It wasn't yet at the point of financial integration.

"It's truly equal." But Yu Rui disagreed with this kind of equality. She believed women worked harder, and men should contribute more financially. Women shed so much blood every month, like fighting on the battlefield. How could men compare? How could this be equal?

"That?" Yu Rui looked at Shuang in the mirror. Yu Shuang didn't react. Yu Rui made a hand gesture. Yu Shuang slapped her in embarrassment. Yu Rui said, "You'll only be considered capable if you can achieve equality by then." Yu Shuang said, "That also requires equality, with everything turned upside down, with the phoenix on top and the dragon at the bottom." Yu Rui laughed out loud. Yu Shuang laughed too.

The smile was over. Yu Rui held Yu Shuang's hand and said, "Thank you."

"What's the meaning."

"Sister Meng probably won't be staying here with you for long," Yu Rui said, "I can't keep you here. You need some private space to talk to Kang."

"What do you mean?" Yu Shuang guessed what Rui said.

"I have to move out." Yu Rui said.

"Aren't you afraid that I'll jump off the building?" Yu Shuang said anxiously.

"We live not far away." Yu Rui went forward to hug Yu Shuang. Yu Shuang felt mixed emotions, "It's all his fault." Yu Rui smiled.

Yu Shuang's face was covered in skin care mud. "If I don't look for him, will you always stay with me?"

"That won't work either," Yu Rui said softly. She wasn't his mother. But Yu Rui never revealed that she had accepted Shi Tongguang's confession and agreed to be his girlfriend.
