Chapter 22 Aunt Lian

“Not only Aunt Lian, but Madam is also a heroine on horseback,” Xia’er said on behalf of Xi Ying.

"Xia'er, don't talk nonsense!" Xi Ying stopped Xia'er from saying anything more, and said with a smile, "It's just that the general was bored and taught me a few self-defense moves."

Yan Ning looked at the gentle and dignified Xi Ying in disbelief.

"Didn't I tell you not to contact me anymore? Why did you send someone to deliver a message to me again?" Xiang'er said unhappily as she sat in the inn.

“We’ve been childhood sweethearts. You and Fukang’an have only known each other for a short time, yet you’re already so devoted to him.” You Yuanzhi downed the wine in his cup in one gulp.

"He is worth loving for a lifetime."

You Yuanzhi gripped Xiang'er's shoulders and said fiercely, "You love him, but does he love you? Aunt Lian? Don't forget that he is constantly reminding you that you are a member of the White Lotus Sect."

Xiang'er shook off You Yuanzhi's hand. "I'm no longer a member of the White Lotus Sect. For his sake, I will never have any contact with the White Lotus Sect again." Xiang'er said as she turned to leave.

"But he loves that stunning beauty named Yan Ning." Xiang'er's steps faltered at You Yuanzhi's words.

"How do you know her?" Xiang'er turned around and snatched the wine glass from You Yuanzhi's hand. You Yuanzhi then pulled Xiang'er into his arms.

"You Yuanzhi, let go!" Xiang'er struggled to get up.

"If you want to know, then behave yourself," You Yuanzhi threatened Xiang'er, then placed her on the stool next to him.

When Xiang'er heard that Fukang'an had been injured by You Yuanzhi while saving Yan Ning, she drew a dagger from her sleeve and stabbed him, "You actually hurt him?"

You Yuanzhi dodged, grabbed Xiang'er's hand, knocked the dagger out of her hand, and roared, "He was willing to get hurt for that woman."

The courtyard was deep and secluded, with fallen leaves carpeting the ground. The moonlight slanted across the night, making it even more desolate. Xiang'er sat on the swing, feeling the frost and heavy dew of late autumn, recalling every moment she shared with Fukang'an.

"Brother Yuanzhi, are you really going to let me get close to Fukang'an?" Fifteen-year-old Xiang'er asked You Yuanzhi, with whom she was engaged, in disbelief.

“Xiang’er, the reason why our people are being arrested so often is because we don’t have any spies among the Qing officials and nobles. Fukang’an is Fulong’an’s younger brother and is highly regarded by Emperor Qianlong. If we can get close to him, then we can escape unscathed when the Qing army surrounds us.” You Yuanzhi said, embracing Xiang’er.

"But why me?" Xiang'er asked, unwilling to give up.

"Because you are so beautiful, who in the entire sect can rival my Xiang'er's looks?" You Yuanzhi affectionately pinched Xiang'er's nose.

"ah······"

Fukang'an looked at Xiang'er, who had fallen from the tree. Although she was dressed in men's clothing, she could not hide the strong scent of perfume on her body.

Fukang'an glanced at it and prepared to ride away.

"Hey! Can't you see I fell and got hurt right in front of you?" Xiang'er quickly got up and stopped Fukang'an.

"I saw you fall, but where is the injury?" Fukang'an's lips curled into a mocking smile.

Xiang'er lowered her head, remembering how she had rushed forward to stop him, and pouted.

"You have to take responsibility for me. Who told you to see me fall and get hurt in front of you?" Xiang'er raised her head and pouted as she spoke.

"Incomprehensible!" Fukang'an's cold face was devoid of emotion.

"Hey! Stop right there!" Xiang'er flew to Fukang'an's horse. "Don't you know anything about chivalry?"

Fukang'an, observing Xiang'er's light-footed skills, began to notice her presence. "Where did you learn these skills?"

"Beat me and I'll tell you!"

"Please take me with you!" Xiang'er chased after Fukang'an to the gate of the mansion and said coquettishly.

"I'll take you to the military camp once you've defeated me." Fukang'an mounted his horse and rode away.

Xiang'er returned to her room and had just sat down when You Yuanzhi jumped in through the window and embraced the dazed Xiang'er. Xiang'er gently pushed You Yuanzhi away and stood up. "Why are you here?"

Seemingly noticing Xiang'er's unusual behavior, You Yuanzhi felt a surge of fear. "Why can't I come? You are my betrothed wife."

"A betrothed wife? Who would send their betrothed wife into another man's arms? You Yuanzhi, you pushed me into Fukang'an's arms for your own position as leader. Now that I've helped you secure your position, don't come looking for me anymore. I want to leave the White Lotus Sect and live a good life with Fukang'an," Xiang'er said coldly.

You Yuanzhi pulled Xiang'er aside and said, "You can't fall in love with him. He's our enemy."

“An enemy? I have no grudge against him. If we’re talking about enemies, then I’m the one who should be his enemy because I deceived his feelings like this.” Xiang’er pushed You Yuanzhi away.

"Come with me, I won't let you stay by his side anymore." You Yuanzhi pulled Xiang'er and prepared to leave.

"Let me go!" Xiang'er struggled, but You Yuanzhi kept dragging her forward.

"Can't you hear her say 'Let her go'?" Fukang'an pushed the door open and entered.

"Fukang'an? Didn't you go to the military camp?" You Yuanzhi held Xiang'er's hand even tighter.

"If you can come and go as you please in my residence, how am I supposed to command the army?" Fukang'an waved his hand, and a group of soldiers surrounded You Yuanzhi.

In the prison cell, You Yuanzhi's eyes were filled with hatred, wishing he could immediately tear Fukang'an to pieces.

Under the sunlight, Fukang'an's back exuded a cold aura like a wall. Xiang'er stepped forward, but did not know how to speak.

"What is your relationship with him?" Fukang'an asked with his back to Xiang'er, his voice cold and devoid of any emotion.

"I am an orphan, adopted by the White Lotus Sect when I was young. Before she died, my adoptive mother entrusted me to You Yuanzhi, and we became engaged," Xiang'er said nervously. At this moment, she could not see Fukang'an's expression.
