Chapter 11 New Play Preparations, Two Male Leads Take the Lead

After successfully averting numerous crises in the entertainment industry, Ling Yichen and Jun Mo Ran's opera troupe gained widespread fame, attracting a constant stream of invitations to collaborate. However, they were not content with this success and decided to prepare a brand-new grand production, a work that would truly showcase their acting talents and unique style, once again shaking the entire ancient entertainment world.

The new drama, titled "Dawn Breaks Through the Mountains and Rivers," tells the story of two men from different backgrounds, both with a shared passion for the world, who meet in a chaotic era. To protect their land and its people, they join hands to fight against foreign enemies and internal traitors, overcoming countless hardships and ultimately achieving great power and forging a deep bond of friendship. The script's inspiration comes from Ling Yichen's modern interpretation of historical stories and Jun Mo Ran's profound understanding of ancient heroic legends. These two elements intertwine to weave a magnificent and gripping narrative framework.

From the very beginning of the new drama's preparation, Ling Yichen and Jun Mozhan threw themselves into the project wholeheartedly. They knew that as the two male leads, their performances would directly determine the success or failure of the drama. The first challenge they faced was character development. Ling Yichen played Chu Xiao, a young talent with modern thinking and unique strategic vision who was unexpectedly transported to this chaotic world; while Jun Mozhan played Ye Lin, a traditional hero from a prestigious family, skilled in military strategy and martial arts, and burdened with the honor and mission of his family.

To better portray the character, Ling Yichen often secluded himself in a corner of the opera troupe, closing his eyes and immersing himself in the image of Chu Xiao. He recalled his experiences traveling to ancient times, attempting to infuse the character's emotions with his own sense of confusion, bewilderment, and longing for the modern world. Simultaneously, he employed modern character analysis methods to delve into Chu Xiao's inner struggles and growth as he faced the rules of ancient society, conflicts of war, and his friendship with Ye Lin.

Jun Mo Ran delved into ancient historical texts to understand the cultural background, family values, and behavioral norms of heroes of that era. He repeatedly pondered Ye Lin's balance and choices between family expectations, national righteousness, and personal feelings, practicing different expressions, movements, and tones to portray Ye Lin's composure, perseverance, and deep affection.

During a character discussion, Ling Yichen spoke first: "Brother Jun, I think that when Chu Xiao first enters the chaotic world, he should show more maladjustment and curiosity. He will look at ancient wars and politics from a modern perspective, which may cause some interesting conflicts and misunderstandings with Ye Lin."

Jun Mo Ran nodded slightly and said, "Yi Chen is absolutely right. Ye Lin may initially have some doubts about Chu Xiao's strange words and actions, but as he gets to know him, he will gradually discover Chu Xiao's unique value and be inspired by his modern thinking. In some battle scenes, we can subtly show the process of the two going from strangers to trust each other through the coordination of their eyes and actions."

As their understanding of their characters deepened, they began intensive rehearsals. Due to the numerous war scenes and action sequences in the new play, Ling Yichen and Jun Mo Ran had to undergo rigorous martial arts training. Every morning, they practiced swordsmanship, spear techniques, and hand-to-hand combat in the troupe's courtyard. Leveraging his modern-day coordination and quick comprehension of techniques, Ling Yichen gradually mastered the use of ancient weapons; Jun Mo Ran, with his solid martial arts foundation, meticulously guided Ling Yichen, helping him correct his posture and improve the accuracy and fluidity of his movements.

During a simulated battle rehearsal, Ling Yichen and Jun Mozhan stood facing each other, longswords in hand. According to the plot, Chu Xiao, unfamiliar with ancient warfare rules, rashly attacked and found himself surrounded by the enemy. Seeing this, Ye Lin had no choice but to risk his life to rescue him. Ling Yichen charged towards Jun Mozhan in a single stride, his swordplay sharp yet slightly chaotic. Jun Mozhan easily parried his attacks, then skillfully dodged to the side, unleashing a backhand strike, the tip of his sword aimed directly at Ling Yichen's throat.

"Stop!" Ling Yichen shouted. "Brother Jun, I think that when Chu Xiao is being held at the throat by a sword, he should not show fear, but rather anger and resentment. He will think that Ye Lin is deliberately humiliating him because his modern thinking makes him unable to accept this kind of rescue method that he considers somewhat 'outdated'."

Jun Mo Ran pondered for a moment and said, "That makes sense. Let's do it again. I'll adjust my expression and movements to make Ye Lin's intentions even clearer."

After numerous rehearsals, the scene finally achieved the effect they expected. The two actors' movements were perfectly coordinated, and their emotional expressions were accurate, vividly portraying the complex relationship and subtle psychological changes between Chu Xiao and Ye Lin.

Besides the action scenes, the emotional scenes in the new drama are also a major challenge. One scene involves Chu Xiao mistakenly believing that Ye Lin betrayed their friendship for the sake of his family's interests, leading to a heated argument between the two in the rain. To find the emotional state of anger, disappointment, and reluctance intertwined, Ling Yichen and Jun Moran rehearsed repeatedly in the rain. The rain soaked their clothes and blurred their vision, but they remained fully immersed in their roles.

Ling Yichen roared, "Ye Lin, I thought you were the person I trusted most in this world, but I never expected that you would betray our ideals for the sake of the family!" His voice echoed in the rain, trembling slightly, his eyes filled with pain and anger.

Jun Mo Ran looked at Ling Yi Chen, his heart filled with helplessness and grievance. He slowly said, "Chu Xiao, you don't understand. For me, the family is a responsibility, a mission. I never thought of betraying you, but there are some things I have no choice about." His tone was low and suppressed, and raindrops slid down his face, as if they were his unspeakable tears.

During the rehearsal of this scene, they constantly adjusted their tone, facial expressions, and body language, striving to perfectly present the deep yet contradictory emotions between the characters to the audience.
