Having successfully resolved the special effects challenges, the crew once again threw themselves into filming with renewed confidence. The set was busy yet organized, with staff members performing their duties diligently and the actors gradually finding their footing. However, fate seemed determined to test this hard-won team; just as filming appeared to be progressing smoothly, a series of new setbacks ensued.
As the plot progressed to a crucial emotional scene, the protagonist and supporting characters needed to portray complex and subtle emotional changes. Xiao Shen, playing the lead role, was fully immersed in his performance, but for some reason, he felt a lack of chemistry with his co-star, resulting in a less than smooth emotional delivery. The scene was filmed repeatedly, with the director constantly frowning, unable to utter the long-awaited "Cut!"
Ling Yichen saw this and was anxious. He knew the importance of emotional scenes in a drama; they were not only key to driving the plot forward but also the core of evoking audience resonance. Therefore, he decided to personally guide the actors. Ling Yichen called Xiao Shen and Su Yue, who played a supporting role, aside and patiently analyzed the characters' inner worlds. "You must understand that at this moment, the protagonist and the supporting character share a deep bond, but at the same time, they face enormous contradictions and conflicts. This emotion is not a simple matter of joy, anger, sorrow, or happiness, but a complex intertwining of entanglement, struggle, and reluctance." Ling Yichen's eyes were bright as he spoke, using vivid gestures to help the actors understand the characters more intuitively.
Xiao Shen and Su Yue listened attentively, nodding occasionally. Then, they resumed filming. This time, Xiao Shen's eyes held a deeper affection and helplessness, and Su Yue's responses were more nuanced. However, when filming the crucial emotional climax, Xiao Shen's performance still felt slightly stiff, failing to fully convey the heart-wrenching feeling.
Jun Mo Ran had been observing from the sidelines. She noticed that Xiao Shen seemed overly focused on acting techniques, neglecting the natural expression of emotion. So, she softly said to Xiao Shen, "Xiao Shen, don't be too nervous. Try to let go of all distractions and fully immerse yourself in the role. Imagine if you were the protagonist, facing this desperate situation, what would your most genuine feelings be? Don't deliberately act; just let the emotions flow naturally."
Inspired by Jun Mo Ran, Xiao Shen took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and immersed himself in the role once more. When the director yelled "Action!", Xiao Shen seemed like a different person. His eyes were filled with pain and struggle, and every expression and movement was incredibly moving. Su Yue was also moved by Xiao Shen's emotions, and their scenes together were like sparks flying, showcasing the tension of their emotions to the fullest. The director's eyes lit up, and he excitedly shouted, "Cut!" A round of enthusiastic applause erupted on set, everyone genuinely happy for this hard-won success.
However, the road to filming remained bumpy. The crew encountered new challenges while filming a grand war scene. This scene involved numerous extras and complex action choreography, requiring not only to depict the intensity and brutality of war but also to create a mysterious atmosphere of an ancient battlefield through special effects. For this scene, the crew conducted numerous rehearsals and developed a detailed filming plan in advance.
However, during actual filming, problems arose one after another. First, the coordination among the extras was problematic. Due to the large number of people and the chaotic scene, some extras failed to perform according to the planned actions and positions, resulting in a messy and disorganized overall shot. The director was extremely anxious in front of the monitor, constantly directing the extras through the walkie-talkie, but the effect was not ideal.
Meanwhile, discrepancies arose in the integration of special effects and live-action footage. The originally designed special effects appeared somewhat jarring when combined with the actual filming scenes, failing to achieve the desired realism. The special effects team worked frantically, trying to adjust parameters, but were unable to resolve the issue.
Ling Yichen realized that filming could not continue at this pace. He made a decisive decision to suspend filming and reorganize the shooting process. He convened the director, the extras manager, and the special effects team members to discuss solutions. After a heated discussion, they decided to readjust the extras' rehearsal methods, increasing the frequency and intensity of rehearsals to ensure that each extra clearly understood their movements and positions.
Regarding the special effects, the VFX team decided to use a brand-new compositing technique to more precisely blend the effects with the live-action footage. To ensure the feasibility of the technique, the team leader personally led the team in numerous experiments. After several hours of hard work, they finally found the optimal compositing solution.
When filming resumed, the entire war scene was completely transformed. The extras moved in perfect unison, and the battle cries were deafening, vividly portraying the intense atmosphere of war. The integration of special effects and live-action footage was also flawless, making the mysterious ancient battlefield seem truly present before the audience's eyes. The director looked at the monitor with satisfaction, a pleased smile on his face.
However, just when everyone thought the filming of the war scene was successfully completed, an unexpected situation occurred. During the filming of an aerial shot, the drone used for filming suddenly malfunctioned, lost control, and crashed towards the crowd on the filming location. Chaos erupted on the scene, with people scrambling for cover in panic.
Fortunately, the drone was caught on a tree branch during its descent, preventing any injuries. However, the incident left everyone shaken. Ling Yichen and Jun Moran immediately arrived at the scene to calm everyone down. "Don't panic, everyone. This was just an accident. We'll investigate the cause of the drone's malfunction as soon as possible to ensure that similar incidents don't happen again," Ling Yichen said loudly.
