In the mansion that Ling Yichen and Jun Moran had poured countless efforts into and was overflowing with love, life had already unfolded like a poem or a painting. The arrival of the pet was like a stroke of genius, adding a touch of lively, warm color to this beautiful picture of life, making the meaning of happiness even richer and more profound.
It was a breezy, sunny spring afternoon when Ling Yichen and Jun Mozhan strolled hand in hand through the streets. By chance, they passed a small pet shelter, and the soft, pitiful barks emanating from the entrance seemed to gently tug at their hearts. They exchanged a glance, and without a word, stepped inside, as if guided by fate to a wondrous encounter with these little lives.
Inside the shelter, the light was dim, and a faint smell of disinfectant filled the air, but this couldn't mask the longing and anticipation shining in the eyes of the small animals. In a corner, a small puppy huddled in a metal cage. It was thin, its fur disheveled, and its dirty appearance couldn't hide its large, dark, watery eyes, which timidly looked at the newcomer. Its gaze was full of wariness and unease, mixed with a barely perceptible expectation. Ling Yichen's heart suddenly ached slightly. He quickly stepped forward, knelt down, and carefully reached his hand into the cage, softly calling, "Little one, don't be afraid." The puppy flinched at first, then seemed to sense the gentleness in his voice, tentatively sticking out its pink tongue and lightly licking his fingertips. The wet touch instantly melted Ling Yichen's heart.
Jun Mo Ran squatted down beside him, gazing tenderly at the puppy, and said softly, "Yi Chen, it's so pitiful, let's take it home." Ling Yi Chen nodded without hesitation, his eyes filled with determination and pity. And so, the puppy became a member of their family, and they named it "Pudding," meaning that their future life would be as sweet as pudding because of it.
Pudding, newly arrived at its new home, was unusually reserved, huddled in a corner of the living room, its small body trembling, its round eyes cautiously observing the unfamiliar surroundings. Ling Yichen and Jun Moran felt a pang of heartache. They brought a soft blanket and gently laid it beside Pudding, along with a bowl of warm goat milk and some dog food. Jun Moran knelt beside Pudding, gently stroking its head and whispering, "Pudding, don't be afraid. This is your home from now on, and we will love you dearly." Ling Yichen sat beside it, quietly keeping it company, offering silent comfort with his gentle gaze. Under their attentive care, Pudding gradually relaxed its tense nerves and began cautiously exploring its new home. It first sniffed the blanket, then moved its short legs slowly towards the food, lowering its head to gently sip the goat milk, its little ears twitching occasionally, looking incredibly adorable.
As the days went by, Pudding completely integrated into the family, transforming into the family's "joyful spirit" and "clingy little devil." In the early morning, before the first rays of sunlight had fully pierced the clouds, Pudding would silently jump onto the bed, rubbing its wet nose against Ling Yichen and Jun Mozhan's cheeks, or sticking out its pink little tongue to gently lick their earlobes, until they woke up. Once they sat up sleepily, Pudding would already be excitedly wagging its tail, circling the bed, making short, cheerful "woof woof" sounds, urging its owners to get up and play with it.
At breakfast time, Pudding lay obediently under the table, its head tilted back, gazing longingly at the food in its owner's hands. Every now and then, it would let out a soft, whimper. Its pitiful appearance made Ling Yichen and Jun Mozhan unable to resist secretly tossing it a few breadcrumbs or a small piece of sausage. Pudding, delighted with its treat, immediately devoured it, licking its lips and wagging its tail contentedly, making the two men burst into laughter.
In their leisure time, they would stroll along the courtyard paths with Pudding. In spring, the courtyard was ablaze with flowers, and Pudding would flit among them, chasing fluttering butterflies. Occasionally, it would accidentally knock down a few petals, prompting Ling Yichen and Jun Moran to feign anger. Pudding would then droop its head, tuck its tail between its legs, and run to its owners' feet, rubbing its head against their legs as an apology, looking utterly adorable. On summer evenings, the afterglow of the setting sun would bathe the entire courtyard in orange-red hues. They would spread out a mat under the ancient locust tree, lying or sitting, while Pudding would lazily lie to the side, belly up, legs spread wide, letting the breeze caress its belly. Pi, with its eyes half-closed in contentment, occasionally lets out a few comfortable purrs; in autumn, with leaves falling in profusion, Pudding rolls happily in the pile of leaves, burying itself among the golden leaves, with only its little black head sticking out. When its owner calls it, it leaps out from the leaves, shaking off the leaves all over its body, causing a rustling sound all around; in winter, with snowflakes flying and the courtyard covered in silver, Pudding runs and jumps excitedly in the snow, chasing snowflakes, its nose and body covered in snowflakes, looking just like a moving "little snowball".
Once, Ling Yichen was under immense work pressure, and for several days he was constantly frowning, locking himself in his study, sighing and lamenting over his script. Pudding seemed to sense its master's low mood. Instead of its usual mischievous antics, it quietly pushed open the study door, carrying its favorite toy ball, and gently walked to Ling Yichen's feet. It placed the ball softly at his feet, then nuzzled his leg with its head, making soft "woof" sounds, as if saying, "Master, don't be sad, play with me for a while." Ling Yichen's eyes reddened. He bent down, picked up Pudding, and buried his face in its furry neck, feeling its warmth. The gloom in his heart instantly dissipated. Seeing this, Jun Mo Ran also entered the study, gently patting Ling Yichen's shoulder. The three of them nestled together, and at that moment, a silent warmth flowed through the room, dispelling all sorrow.
