Chapter 36 A Portrait
"What do you mean by yes and no?" Xie Rongying stared at the young man in front of her in confusion, thinking about the last time she met Xie Yi, Xie Ting mentioned Fengle Tower. She didn't expect to meet Xie Ting again in Fengle Tower today.
Xie Ting saw scrutiny in Xie Rongying's eyes.
"You were in a hurry to go somewhere just now. Did something happen?" Xie Rongying asked again.
Just when Xie Ting was about to use Xie Rongying's words of being "possessed" as an excuse to explain, footsteps were heard behind him.
Xie Rongying saw the old woman emerging from the Moon Gate through the veil, and her expression changed slightly. It was Nanny Li whom she had met in Kaibao Temple that day.
Nanny Li glanced back and forth between Xie Ting and Xie Rongying before she said respectfully, "Young Master, the prince invites you."
Upon hearing this, Xie Rongying distanced herself from Xie Ting.
It would be fine if she didn't know Xie Ting's identity, but Xie Rongying knew Xie Ting's identity, so naturally she didn't want to get too close to Xie Ting.
"Please go back and tell the prince, Ma'am Li, that I have some very important matters to deal with with my elder sister." The young man's face was reflected in the light, his eyes were deep, and he seemed to be smiling.
Just as Xie Rongying was about to say something, before she could react, Xie Ting grabbed her wrist and turned around and headed towards the courtyard she had just passed.
Gu Xun followed closely behind.
Seeing this, Nanny Li sighed softly.
The maid behind him stepped forward and whispered, "Why is the young master's eldest sister in Fengle Tower at this time?"
"It's none of our business." Nanny Li said sternly, "Don't be curious if you shouldn't be so nosy."
The maid immediately lowered her head: "Yes, Mammy."
Nanny Li glanced in the direction Xie Ting had just left and turned around.
After just one moon gate, Xie Ting let go of Xie Rongying. He slowed his pace, his eyes full of complexity. Seeing that the person following him showed no curiosity or inquiries, he glanced sideways, his lips curled up, "Why don't you ask me why I didn't see the King of Wei?"
Xie Rongying laughed: "Don't you see you have your own reasons?"
Xie Tingle smiled, seemingly in a much better mood. He slowly crossed his arms over his chest and resumed his usual nonchalant demeanor. "What are you doing here in Fengle Tower? I see you're planning on heading to the South Tower. Do you have any news to 'gamble' with there?"
"Why don't we first talk about the rumor in the capital today that I was possessed by an evil spirit?" Xie Rongying seemed to be in a very good mood. Today, when Shangguan Yao went to the mansion of Marquis Yongyi, the news that she was possessed by an evil spirit spread in Bianjing.
According to the rumors, only the Yongyi Marquis' Mansion and the Yongqin Earl's Mansion knew about the Kaibao Temple and the circumstances of Jiang Yin's death.
The Jiang family had just lost Jiang Yin when they were dealing with her, so they would definitely not take action against her so quickly. The Jiang family is still immersed in the shadow of Jiang Yin's death, so they will definitely not make a comeback to deal with her so quickly.
The only explanation is that Shangguan Yao has long regarded her as a thorn in his side.
Only Shangguan Yao could learn everything from Qin Junyi.
It seems that Shangguan Yao had already started thinking about how to deal with Qin Junyi when she learned that she had no suitable reason to leave Bian Jing.
"You're not really possessed by evil spirits, are you?" the young man joked with a warm smile.
Xie Rongying asked back: "What do you think?"
Xie Ting waved his hand, put away his smile, and said seriously, "I was planning to come and tell you when I heard the news that you were possessed, but I was tied up today."
"My people told me that Qin Junyi's mistress arranged for her people to spread the news that you were possessed in Chunzhi Pavilion. Because you had previously instructed not to alert the enemy, my people did not intervene."
After Xie Ting finished speaking, he looked at Xie Rongying with guilt: "Eldest sister, let me handle this matter. Don't worry, I won't let this rumor continue to spread in this Bianjing City."
"No need." Xie Rongying refused. "This person obviously has bad intentions and must have other plans. If you can handle this, what about next time, and the next time? Can you stop Qin Jun's mistress from attacking me again?"
Xie Ting's expression became much more serious.
The only reason a concubine could be so arrogant was because she was relying on Qin Junyi.
"Don't get involved." Xie Rongying looked at Xie Ting's serious expression.
"Then what are you doing here?" Xie Ting asked again.
Xie Rongying looked towards the South Tower and said, "Isn't the South Tower here known for being able to buy anything you want as long as you have money?"
Hearing this, Xie Ting glanced at Gu Xun who was not far away and said, "Then you go first. I will go back home first."
Xie Rongying smiled faintly, laughing at the young man for not digging deep into the matter.
"What are you laughing at?" Xie Ting frowned.
Xie Rongying said calmly: "Go back."
After saying that, he turned and walked towards the South Building.
Xie Ting watched Xie Rongying's back slowly disappear into the distance before heading in the other direction of Fengle Building.
Xie Rongying brought Gu Xun to the South Building, and surprisingly, there was no one in the lobby.
Except for the woman dozing behind the counter.
The woman behind the counter seemed to sense someone approaching, and her eyes suddenly opened. Seeing a woman wearing a veil, the coldness in her eyes disappeared instantly.
The woman's gaze lingered on Xie Rongying for a moment before landing on Gu Xun. She then walked out of the counter with a smile, looked Xie Rongying up and down, and said, "Sir, please come this way."
Seeing that the woman was so familiar, Xie Rongying followed her to the small room on the east side.
"I wonder if this lady wants to buy news or sell it?" The woman sat down while speaking and made a 'please sit down' gesture to Xie Rongying.
Xie Rongying sat down opposite the woman and said, "I want to buy a portrait of someone."
Hearing this, the woman paused holding the teapot, raised her eyes to stare at Xie Rongying, and laughed: "Portrait?"
Xie Rongying smiled lightly: "Portrait."
Upon hearing this, the woman picked up the teapot and filled the teacup beside her with water. Then she placed it in front of Xie Rongying and said, "Young lady, whose portrait do you want to buy? Since you are here, you must know the rules of our South Tower. The prices for different people vary depending on their status."
Xie Rongying smiled faintly: "Of course I know a thing or two."
"Miss, tell me whose portrait you want." The woman said with a little curiosity.
Xie Rongying smiled faintly: "I want the portrait of Shangguan Yan, the traitorous general of the cavalry who collaborated with the enemy in the fourth year of Chengde."
"A portrait of Shangguan Yan?" The woman raised her eyebrows.
Xie Rongying said calmly, "A portrait of Shangguan Yan."
After she finished speaking, the woman straightened her back, trying to see through the veil to see who the woman under the veil was. She said, "Although the Shangguan family has a bad reputation, the price for Shangguan Yan's portrait is very high."
"Just tell me a number." Xie Rongying smiled faintly.
The woman leaned back in her chair, staring at the woman sitting opposite her without blinking. No one in Dayin would like to mention the former General Shangguan Yan. Even if they did, their faces would be full of contempt.
I never thought that one day someone would come to buy Shangguan Yan's portrait.
"Five thousand taels of silver." The woman stretched out her hand and said with a smile.
