Chapter 7 Do You Like It?
Mother Yuan immediately stepped forward and stood between Marquis Yongyi and Xie Rongying, explaining to him, "My Lord, the young mistress has only just arrived at the mansion. How could she possibly know what's going on there? She's just grudged the mistress for punishing her this morning, so she's spouting nonsense."
Yunniang and Cuizhi listened to what Yuan Mama said behind her, their eyes as big as bells.
What is this nonsense?!
He really knows how to confuse right and wrong. He thinks that since he didn't explicitly say that he wanted his daughter to use her dowry to fill the deficit in the Marquis' Mansion, that doesn't mean that?
"So, mother didn't mean what I thought. It seems I was overthinking it." Xie Rongying glanced at Mother Yuan slowly, then looked at Marquis Yongyi. "It's just that there are indeed many problems with the account books in the mansion. The other day, my daughter-in-law returned the account books to you, mother. This also shows that my daughter-in-law is weak and can't handle matters in the mansion that she is not involved in. But mother still let her handle the account books."
"Young Madam!" Mother Yuan shouted, "Young Madam, please be more careful with your words."
If Mother Yuan had not reacted like this, Marquis Yongyi might have just listened to Xie Rongying and left. He did not want to get involved in the affairs of the inner house, not to mention that the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law has always been complicated.
Just Yuan Mama's attitude showed that there was really a problem with the household affairs in this mansion.
He didn't mind some dirty plots in the inner house, but he would not allow it if it touched the foundation of Marquis Yongyi.
"Go on." Marquis Yongyi said in a deep voice.
Xie Rongying glanced at the panic in Yuan Mama's expression. She looked away, her voice filled with melancholy, "Father, could you please go to the front hall with your daughter-in-law? I'll have someone bring the household account books to you for review."
Mother Yuan's expression beside her became stiff, her eyes showing complexity and fear. She turned around and walked towards the main room.
Xie Rongying bowed to the Marquis of Yongyi and said, "Father, please wait in the front hall for a moment."
After saying that, Xie Rongying took Yunniang and Cuizhi away.
Marquis Yongyi stared at Xie Rongying's back with a much deeper look. She had just married into the Marquis's mansion and didn't think about how to be on the same page with her mother-in-law and husband, but on the day he came back, she exposed the things in the mansion that "did not dare to be seen in the light".
He glanced at the main house behind him. Jiang Ling had been smart for half her life, so why did she shoot herself in the foot when choosing a daughter-in-law?
In the main hall, Madam Yuan looked at Jiang, whose face was gloomy. "Madam, what should we do? The young mistress handed over the account books of the mansion over the years to the Marquis. The Marquis will definitely be furious. Now that bitch has followed the Marquis back to the mansion, the Marquis will definitely use you to manage the mansion poorly as an excuse to force that bitch back in."
At this time, Jiang had regained her composure and realized that Xie Rongying was not what she thought she was, but a thorn, and a disobedient one at that.
"Since Xie wants to tear this gauze to disgust me, then let her know the consequences of going against me in the Yongyi Marquis's Mansion." While Jiang was speaking, the maid put a large felt coat on her, and she turned around and walked out of the house.
A quarter of an hour later, in the front hall.
When Xie Rongying arrived at the front hall door, Jiang Shi also walked towards this side from the curved corridor. Seeing this, Xie Rongying stopped and looked at Jiang Shi who was approaching from a distance. She bowed and said, "Greetings, mother."
Jiang looked Xie Rongying up and down, then glanced behind her and saw the account books in Yunniang and Cuizhi's hands. She smiled faintly, "Rongying, if you really can't handle the household affairs, you can tell me. I also think that the girls of the Xie family are definitely not bad, and managing household affairs shouldn't be a difficult task. When you returned the account books yesterday, I thought you were just being upset with Junyi and throwing a tantrum. I didn't expect you really can't do it."
"I'm sorry to disappoint mother." Xie Rongying nodded and smiled faintly, unmoved by Jiang's deliberate or unintentional put-downs. "My daughter-in-law is indeed not good at handling the household affairs. That's why my parents gave her a farm and a shop. They were afraid that her stupidity would make her husband's family look down on her, so she would have something to show for it so that they wouldn't be laughed at."
As she spoke, Xie Rongying looked at Jiang with sarcasm in her eyes.
The more you want something, the more I will show off. You don't dare to rob it openly, but what I fear least is sinister calculations.
I'm not afraid of your scheming, I'm just afraid of you not scheming.
Sure enough, after hearing what Xie Rongying said, Jiang stared at Xie Rongying with half-closed eyes.
Xie Rongying looked at him with deep eyes and smiled faintly: "Mother, please."
Jiang glared at Xie Rongying fiercely and walked into the front hall first.
Stepping into the front hall, Jiang, who was originally unhappy, looked even gloomier when she saw the woman standing next to Marquis Yongyi.
With Jiang's arrival, the atmosphere in the front hall became solemn.
Marquis Yongyi's expression darkened as he looked at Jiang's face.
"Greetings, Madam." Zhou, dressed in purple, spoke in a flattering tone.
But Jiang walked past Zhou and sat down next to Marquis Yongyi. After sitting down, her eyes fell on Zhou with a cold look.
Time has not left too many traces on Zhou's face, but instead has added a gentleness that is not in her memory.
Jiang sneered, "You've been away from home with the Marquis for so many years, and it's been hard on you. Now step down."
Zhou didn't show any displeasure when she heard this. She bowed and said respectfully, "Yes."
"Sit down." Marquis Yongyi glanced at Jiang coldly and ordered Zhou to sit down.
Jiang sneered and sat more dignifiedly.
Zhou hesitated for a moment, then bowed and said, "Yes."
When Zhou sat down in the first seat on the left of Marquis Yongyi, Xie Rongying also walked in. Her eyes quickly passed over Zhou, and the corners of her lips raised slightly.
"The daughter-in-law greets father and mother." Xie Rongying bowed.
Marquis Yongyi glanced at the maid behind Xie Rongying before speaking, "Please sit down."
Xie Rongying did not sit down. Instead, she turned around and took the account books from Yunniang and Cuizhi and placed them on the small table next to the Yongyi Marquis. She said, "Father, these account books date back to June of the fifth year of Chengde. I have marked any discrepancies in them. Please take a look."
Jiang's eyes were like thorns staring at Xie Rongying, her tone threatening: "Xie Rongying, what do you want to do? Is this how a daughter of the Xie family looks for trouble in her husband's family after getting married?"
Xie Rongying raised her eyebrows: "What are you talking about, mother? If there is a problem, we should solve it instead of covering the mouth of the person who discovered the problem."
Jiang asked coldly, "Are you questioning your mother-in-law's past management of the household?"
"If there's nothing wrong with the household affairs, mother, why fear being questioned?" Xie Rongying smiled calmly, "If your daughter-in-law truly doesn't understand or has done something wrong, mother, what's wrong with giving her some pointers? Why be so aggressive?"
Xie Rongying emphasized the word "aggressive".
Jiang's eyes darkened, and her gaze drifted past Marquis Yongyi, suppressing the anger in her chest.
"Alright." Marquis Yongyi stared at Jiang coldly, "I want to see if there's anything suspicious in the account books after June of the fifth year of Chengde."
Jiang clenched her fists. She thought Xie Rongying could solve the trouble in the Marquis' Mansion, but she didn't expect Xie Rongying to throw the trouble directly into the hands of Marquis Yongyi.
However, Jiang was not guilty about the problems in the Marquis' Mansion. This was the fundamental problem of Marquis Yongyi, not caused by her.
Thinking of this, she sat in her seat with peace of mind.
As Marquis Yongyi flipped through the account books one by one, his expression became increasingly grim.
After flipping through about seven or eight books, Marquis Yongyi threw the account book in his hand to the ground, stood up angrily, and pointed at Jiang: "This family is handed over to you, and this is how you run it!?"
Jiang looked at him coldly, then smiled. "Isn't it a common practice in your Qin family to patch up the east wall with the west wall? How did it become my responsibility now?"
"Jiang Ling!" Marquis Yongyi roared, and seeing the younger Xie Rongying present, he suppressed his anger and said to Zhou, "Take Xie away."
"Yes." Zhou stood up, glanced at Xie Rongying, and left the front hall.
Xie Rongying bowed and said, "Father, mother, your daughter-in-law will take her leave." The provocative curve at the corner of her lips happened to catch Jiang's eyes when she turned around.
The fierce anger in Jiang's eyes seemed to be able to penetrate Xie Rongying's departing back.
Xie Rongying came out and met Zhou. She first bowed, then greeted her gently: "If Madam doesn't mind, your daughter-in-law will call you Auntie."
Zhou looked Xie Rongying up and down, then nodded and said, "Let's go for a walk?"
Xie Rongying followed Zhou: "Okay."
Through the front hall corridor is the curved corridor leading to the garden.
Zhou chuckled: "This is the drama that happened when the Marquis returned. What is the young lady acting out?"
"I don't know if Auntie likes the gift I give her." Xie Rongying said calmly.
Upon hearing this, Zhou stopped and stared at Xie Rongying sideways. She knew a little about the daughter of the Xie family, and she felt a little emotional when she learned that Jiang's son was going to marry the eldest daughter of the Xie family.
After all, the Xie family's financial strength is well-known to everyone, and Qin Junyi's marriage to the eldest daughter of the Xie family is like adding wings to a tiger.
But she didn't expect that the daughter-in-law that Jiang had tried so hard to get was not of the same mind as her.
"Ritual?" Zhou asked with a low laugh.
Xie Rongying said bluntly: "Mother can't even do her job properly, and father wants my aunt to come back and give her a proper place. Isn't this a perfect opportunity? For my aunt, what else can it be but a gift?"
Zhou raised her eyebrows slightly and asked with a smile, "What do you want to do?"
