"Isn't it because you wanted to come back? So I took leave. It's okay, it's no big deal to miss two days of work. When are you going to report for duty and where are you going?" As soon as Lu Qingfeng brought up work, he immediately changed the subject. He didn't dare tell her that he had gotten himself here because of her.
"Okay, you go over there first, I'll change my clothes and go cook, thank you!" He Caiwei reached out and pushed open the door. After saying so much here, her father must be getting impatient waiting for her to go back and cook. She didn't forget to thank him again after seeing her off. He had decorated such a beautiful room for her.
He Caiwei quickly changed into a looser set of loungewear and slippers before coming out of the room.
She had just come from the corridor when she saw him still waiting for her in the front yard.
"Didn't I tell you to go ahead? Why are you still waiting here? There are a lot of mosquitoes outside." He Caiwei reached out and pulled him towards the next courtyard, no longer asking questions, but inquiring about what they had bought at the market.
"When we went there, the market was almost completely closed up. There weren't many things left, but it seems some people went out to sea these past few days. There were a few sea cucumbers, two rather large shrimps, and some snails. Uncle bought them all. I've never eaten those before. Mine looked pretty, but I don't know if they taste good." Lu Qingfeng began to list the things they bought. Before picking up the train, he had completely forgotten about going to the market to buy groceries. By the time he remembered after picking them up, the market was almost completely closed.
So when you get there, all that's left are things that others can't understand.
However, Lu Qingfeng was still a little worried that the little girl wouldn't be able to do these things, since these things really looked quite nice and should be considered ornamental.
"Beautiful snails? Big or small?" He Caiwei's cooking skills have been honed in the space over the past few years, and now she can make most of the things that are available.
"This one is only about the size of my thumb, and it has a light yellow pattern on it. My uncle said he'd never eaten this before, but the stall owner tricked him into thinking it was delicious, so he bought it." Lu Qingfeng was really speechless. His uncle was a big spender and loved to hear nice things. Once he heard nice things, he could be so easily fooled that he forgot who he was.
"It's okay, that stuff can be used. Let's go see how to make it." He Caiwei knew it was whelk as soon as she heard it. Salt-baked whelk is quite delicious. Let's make salt-baked whelk tonight. Anyway, we have all kinds of ingredients in our space.
With the help of the virtuous Lu Qingfeng, a meal of eight dishes was quickly prepared.
Cooking sea cucumbers takes a long time, so she put them in her own space to cook. She also stir-fried lobster with chili, which made Lu Qingfeng choke while she was stir-frying it.
When they were first stir-fried, it was really pungent. Of all the dishes, salt-baked whelks are the easiest to make.
At first, Lu Qingfeng couldn't understand what was going on. He saw her put in a large bag of coarse salt and then stir-fry it in a pot. At first, Lu Qingfeng thought that the whelks were also stir-fried in the salt.
After watching him stir-fry for a while, she realized that there was only salt in it, nothing else. Once she had almost cooked the salt, she used a clay pot to transfer all the scalding hot salt into it, and then placed the whelks one by one on top of the salt. After that, she put the lid on and told him to serve the dish.
Looking completely bewildered, Lu Qingfeng brought the dishes over, but didn't know what to say. He had no choice but to go back and get the dishes. Anyway, raw food is edible, so it doesn't matter if they're not cooked.
After he finished serving all the dishes, he opened the casserole and found that the meat of the whelks had already sprouted on their own, and they were clearly cooked.
Two large lobsters were stir-fried, one large plate and one small plate. The small plate was not seasoned with chili, since the two little ones couldn't handle spicy food.
"Grandpa, dinner's ready." He Caiwei called out to her grandfather. She hadn't seen him since she changed her clothes and came back here. She didn't know where the old man had gone.
"Oh my, it's Weiwei back! This old man is in for a treat tonight. It's been so long since I've had Weiwei's cooking. I've been craving it." The voice was a bit hoarse; it was Zhang the tailor's voice.
"Grandpa Zhang, I'm back. I'll be working here from now on, so you can eat here all the time. I promise you'll have something to eat every day." He Caiwei smiled as she came down the steps to help the old man, who finally agreed to speak.
"You're kidding, this old man has a thick skin. If you say you're coming to eat, then I'm coming to eat." Zhang the tailor said happily as the little girl helped him into the house.
"Yes, yes, I told you, I'll make sure you're well-fed and healthy." This old man is so old, but he still doesn't want to rest. He can still help the neighbors with mending clothes, sewing on buttons, or altering sizes.
It's not possible to do it at night now, so it can only be done during the day. But even if it's done during the day, the old man's eyesight isn't very good now, so it's very slow. It's already quite good that he can support himself.
"Oh, you little rascal, are you raising pigs? They're all so plump and white..." Zhang the tailor's words made everyone in the room laugh.
After a lively meal, He Caiwei was sent back to her room to rest. Neither Lu Zhiheng nor Lu Qingfeng would allow her to finish cooking and then clean up the table and wash the dishes.
He Caiwei obediently listened to her. After returning home, she took a shower, sat on the edge of the bed, and began to think about what to do next. She was back, but the development prospects here were really not very good.
He's reluctant to give up this place now, because the land here will be very valuable in the future, and having a local household registration will make things easier.
But it's only 1960 now, and there are still almost 20 years until the real development. Sigh, the wish to lie down and be a couch potato is really hard to realize.
She had just finished sighing when there was a knock on the door. He Caiwei knew that it was either her mother or Lu Qingfeng knocking.
I walked over, opened the door, and saw Lu Qingfeng dressed in his pajamas, holding a pretty paper bag in his hand.
"What's wrong, brother?"
"This is a graduation gift for you." Lu Qingfeng reached out and took his hand, handing her the paper bag he was carrying.
"What's all this mystery?" He Caiwei looked at the paper bag, unable to tell what was inside.
"Brother, would you like to come in and sit down for a bit?" He Caiwei thought to herself, seeing his hesitant expression, "Maybe I should let him come in first and have a chat."
"No need." Lu Qingfeng dared not enter her boudoir at this time. Even though they were at home, he still knew the proper boundaries.
The girl is still young, we have to wait another year until she reaches the legal age before we can marry her.
"Alright then, is there something you want to tell me?" He Caiwei felt that this person's personality was so awkward; he wasn't like this before.
Lu Qingfeng cheered himself up, reached out and cupped the little girl's face, and kissed her on the lips. He Caiwei was stunned by the kiss.
