Chapter 61 Marriage

He Yuping stayed with Lu Zhiheng for a while longer. After helping him to bed, she went back.

After leaving the house, I locked the door from the outside and thought again about finding someone to build a door in the wall separating the houses tomorrow, so that it would be easier for them to move around in the future.

"Oh my, my mom finally decided to come back! I thought you were going to sleep over there tonight, since you're getting your marriage certificate tomorrow anyway..." Before He Caiwei could finish speaking, He Yuping grabbed a feather duster, ready to hit her.

"You brat, I think you're just asking for trouble..."

Hearing the mother and daughter bickering, Lu Zhiheng smiled and closed his eyes.

The little girl must have considered him one of her own a long time ago, otherwise how could such magical things keep appearing in his food and drink? His injuries to his hands, legs, and body would never have healed so quickly if it weren't for the little girl putting something in the water. You know, it takes a hundred days to recover from a broken bone, and he's only had less than fifty days left.

He touched the bones in his hand; they had healed completely, but the meridians in his hand were still a bit stiff. He would be fine with more practice.

Tonight was destined to be a sleepless night. Lu Zhiheng couldn't sleep at all. He lay there smiling all night, and before dawn, he got up, got out of bed, sat in his wheelchair, and pushed it out. His hands were weak now, so he pushed it slowly.

He first took out a new military uniform from the closet; these clothes were sent to him by his older brother after he went back.

Aside from the military uniform, many of the clothes were ones he had worn before. He doesn't wear his clothes very often, so they look quite new. Several of them were even newly made by his sister-in-law.

Lu Zhiheng looked at the wardrobe, feeling a little annoyed. Today was his wedding, and he hadn't even bought his new bride any clothes yet. It was all because of his useless legs; he'd been trying to heal them for almost two months, but he still couldn't walk.

Lu Zhiheng sat on a chair with high legs, changed his clothes, and then came out to fetch water to wash his face.

When I heard a sound coming from the neighbor's yard, I was taken aback. It wasn't even dawn yet, so why were they up so early?

Lu Zhiheng was deep in thought when he suddenly saw a small head pop up on the wall, smiling at him.

"Why are you climbing up the wall so early in the morning, you little rascal? Come down quickly, be careful not to fall." The mouth speaks faster than the brain; before the brain can even process it, the mouth has already blurted it out.

"Hey, Uncle Lu, good morning! What's up? Getting up so early to practice military boxing?" He Caiwei teased with a smile.

"Where did you learn this trick, you little rascal? Hurry up and come down. This wall is so high, aren't you afraid of falling?" Lu Zhiheng had already pulled the little girl into his protective range.

"Okay, okay, you're only thirty. Don't act like a nagging old man, okay?" He Caiwei pouted, climbed down the ladder, opened her front door, and turned to their side, opening the door for him.

I hadn't been able to see his clothes clearly because the longan tree branches were covering him on the wall. It wasn't until I opened the gate and entered the yard that I saw him. Sure enough, I had a feeling he was going to be a groom. The military uniform he was wearing was brand new, without a single wrinkle.

With that face, he was absolutely stunning: "Wow, Uncle Lu, you look really handsome today. Is this new? What, you saved it for your wedding day instead of wearing it before?"

"You little rascal, you're always teasing me. It's barely dawn, how about we go for a walk outside?" Lu Zhiheng felt a bit uncomfortable staying at home, so he thought it would be nice to go out for a walk with the little girl. Anyway, it was just dawn, and there was still some time before the Civil Affairs Bureau opened.

"Alright, I'll go back and leave a note for my mother." He Caiwei nodded, knowing he had something to say, and then pulled the threshold off and pushed him out the door.

She ran back to her room, left a note for her mother, and went out. Pushing the wheelchair, He Caiwei led Lu Zhiheng to a river near the textile factory. The river water was clear and unpolluted, and fish could be seen swimming in it from the riverbank.

It was still early, and no one had come here to do laundry yet. A gentle morning breeze brought a slight chill. He Caiwei sat on a rock by the river, looking at Lu Zhiheng in his wheelchair, and softly asked, "Uncle, is there something you want to tell me?"

"You're quite clever, girl. I just wanted to ask if you'd like to change your surname to mine after I marry your mother. I've had someone build a door in the wall in the yard these past few days, so it'll be easier to get meals later. Or, you could move in with us if you prefer. I think you know what your grandfather is thinking. Actually, your grandfather is overthinking it. After I marry your mother, you'll still be my daughter. I think it's good enough that you don't look down on me. It's really not my place to look down on you." Lu Zhiheng was telling the truth. This girl was quite capable. He was already grateful that she didn't look down on him, let alone think that he could possibly look down on her.

"Hey, you're really open-minded. Actually, I think this is fine. Do you expect me to eavesdrop in your room? No way. I'll just stay here with Grandpa and take care of him. Uncle, you really don't need to worry so much. I really like you. I just feel that my mother suffered too much in the past, and I want you to take better care of her after you get married."

You know, she had a tough time in that house, always having to watch out for the First Madam's schemes against me. At first, she was in charge of everything in the kitchen, and on the surface, it seemed like she was quite favored. But actually, it was just that old man was afraid that Madam Zhang's family would become too powerful, so he made my mother a target in the open. Although I was young at the time, I really didn't have any feelings for that old man. By the time I was five years old, I could count the number of times I'd seen him on one hand. So how could I have any feelings for him?

"Also, I won't take your surname. I'm doing fine now, so don't even think about putting me on your household registration. I'll just stay with my grandpa. If you could get my mom to give me a little brother or sister to play with next year, that would be the best. Of course, after you marry my mom, you'll be my dad, and I'll be a good little darling." He Caiwei thought this uncle was quite cute; his eyes clearly showed he was in charge, which made her want to laugh.

"Can I know why you don't change your surname?" Lu Zhiheng looked at the little girl's ambiguous smile and felt that she must have some different ideas from him if she didn't change her surname.

"You want to know? Fine, I'll be merciful and tell you, I don't want to be Lu Qingfeng's sister, understand?" He Caiwei was still somewhat resentful of the boy who called her spoiled.

"Even if your name isn't on my household registration, you're still his sister, and that won't change. Okay, don't be angry anymore. Next time he comes, I'll let him beat you up to vent your anger, how about that?" Lu Zhiheng found it quite amusing to watch the little girl throw a tantrum; it was surprising that she could stay angry for so long just because he called her a spoiled brat.

That's right, I wonder if his eldest nephew can handle the beating from that little girl.

"Uncle, are you sure you're my real uncle?"
