Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Not going to military training was indeed a very correct decision for Ji Ruan. He found that he seemed to be incompatible with the sun, and he felt listless the whole day after returning from the open day.

Of course, it is also possible that he wrongly blamed the sun. It was purely a problem of his physical constitution and he felt dizzy easily for no reason.

One afternoon, the sun was particularly strong. Ji Ruan woke up from a nap and felt hungry, so he wanted to find something to eat. Everything was fine until he went downstairs. A beam of light came through the treetops outside the window, which dazzled his eyes. He simply raised his hand to block it, and then everything in front of him suddenly went dark.

This was followed by an intense dizziness.

Ji Ruan tried to grab the handrail but missed. He instinctively held onto the railing before falling, thus avoiding a tragedy.

But he seemed to have slid down a few steps, his tailbone was hurting, his vision recovered a little, but he was dizzy and couldn't see anything clearly.

Aunt Zhao took half a day off for something, and he was the only one left in the house.

Ji Ruan was too weak to stand up and could only hold on to the railing as if it were a life-saving straw. Cold sweat was pouring down his face, his heart was beating so fast that it seemed like it was going to jump out of his throat, and he felt so uncomfortable that he wanted to vomit.

Later it seemed that Gu Xiuyi came back.

Fortunately, he came back.

Ji Ruan fell on the stairs and couldn't move. Someone patted his face and called his name. His nose rubbed against that person's shirt and he had a very familiar smell.

Ji Ruan felt cold and dizzy, so he subconsciously leaned over to get some warmth.

Gu Xiuyi picked him up. Ji Ruan had no strength left and was frightened, so he grabbed the other person's clothes with all his strength.

When his vision regained clarity, he had already laid back on his bed, his face pressed against the belly of his teddy bear, and Gu Xiuyi had fed him half a cup of sugar water.

"It's okay." Gu Xiuyi put his palm to his ear, the temperature of his fingertips was very high: "It's hypoglycemia."

Ji Ruan was still a little dizzy. He tilted his head back and looked up with half-squinted eyes. He could only see Gu Xiuyi's sharp jawline. His collar was torn into a mess.

"Thank you..." Ji Ruan said weakly, "It's good that you're back."

Gu Xiuyi pulled the chair in front of the desk to the bedside and sat down: "Are you hungry?"

Ji Ruan's eyelashes trembled, and her fingers pinched the bear's belly in a tangled manner, and her voice was very unconfident: "I almost fainted from hunger..."

Gu Xiuyi: “…”

The takeaway food is now delivered very slowly. Gu Xiuyi looked at Ji Ruan's snow-white cheeks and the sweat beads on her forehead, and his brain short-circuited for a moment.

The poor little thing was so weak that Gu Xiuyi was bewitched and decided to do it himself - he went downstairs to cook noodles.

This was also his first time cooking.

Ten minutes later, Ji Ruan sat obediently at the dining table.

In front of me was a bowl of plain noodles that looked pretty good. At least the noodles were solid and the soup was soup, without any lumps or mushy bits.

Under Gu Xiuyi's calm gaze, Ji Ruan picked up a small piece of food with chopsticks and put it into his mouth.

“…”

It tastes weird.

Not sure, swallow it first.

“…”

It's really unpalatable.

I can't say what's so bad about it, but it's just very unpalatable.

It seems that the seasonings in it are special ingredients brought from outer space, and they are definitely not to the taste of earthlings.

The corners of Ji Ruan's mouth twitched and he looked up at Gu Xiuyi.

The man sat opposite him without moving a muscle. Ji Ruan was unsure whether he knew anything about his cooking skills.

But after all, it was the other person's first time cooking, so Ji Ruan picked up another one and tried to be polite. When the noodles were brought to his mouth, he really didn't have the courage to open his mouth.

After a while, Ji Ruan gently put down his chopsticks and looked at Gu Xiuyi guiltily:

"sorry."

“…”

The air was quiet for a few seconds.

There was no flaw in Gu Xiuyi's expression: "It's okay."

He moved the bowl of noodles away from Ji Ruan's eyes, put it aside, and said in a very rational and objective tone: "If the taste is not right, don't eat it, otherwise you will upset your stomach again."

The bowl of noodles grew cold alone in the corner of the marble table. Gu Xiuyi should have known that his cooking skills were terrible.

He wouldn't even taste it.

In the end, Aunt Zhao, who had just returned from vacation, gave each of them a bowl of vegetarian noodles. Gu Xiuyi had a large bowl and Ji Ruan had a small bowl.

It was obviously the same soy sauce and vinegar, but Aunt Zhao seemed to have magic. Every bite was so delicious that Ji Ruan even finished the soup.

After taking a shower and before going to bed at night, Gu Xiuyi suddenly came to him. He was not wearing pajamas, but a suit.

Ji Ruan looked him up and down at his outfit and asked hesitantly, "What are you doing...?"

"I'm on a temporary business trip." Gu Xiuyi didn't focus on this anymore. He handed the thing in his hand to Ji Ruan: "Here."

Ji Ruan suddenly had something stuffed into his arms, and he subconsciously held it with both hands. It was a large glass jar, very heavy, and filled with candies and chocolates.

Ji Ruan looked up: "?"

He had just taken a shower, his cheeks were rosy, and he was wearing pajamas with a wide collar, and his collarbones looked pink.

Gu Xiuyi pursed his lips and said, "Eat this when you feel dizzy in the future."

Ji Ruan was stunned and realized that the candies and chocolates in the jar were all wrapped in candy paper. There was no need to tear them open. The jagged packaging might be difficult to tear open when people have low blood sugar.

Ji Ruan said happily: "Thank you, I will eat well."

Sugar is good, it’s much better than Gu Xiuyi cooking noodles again.

Gu Xiuyi knocked on the candy jar: "But don't eat it before bed, it will cause tooth decay."

"Got it," Ji Ruan shook the can and suddenly had an idea: "Is there any cherry flavor?"

Fruit candies are everywhere on the market, but among all the fruits, there are relatively few that are made into cherry flavor.

"..." Gu Xiuyi was obviously frozen for a moment: "Probably not. Do you like it very much?"

Ji Ruan smiled, and the glass jar refracted a few bits of light onto his lower eyelids, making this smile look unusually beautiful: "I was just saying it casually."

I don’t know if it’s because the warm yellow light in Ji Ruan’s room is too gentle, but Gu Xiuyi’s expression also seemed to soften a lot in an instant: “Yeah.”

Someone called, and after Gu Xiuyi answered the call, he raised his chin to Ji Ruan and said, "Let's go, you can have a rest."

"Okay, bye." Ji Ruan waved with a smile.

Gu Xiuyi went downstairs and walked up a few steps, when he suddenly found light under his feet.

At night, the lights in the living room and corridor were turned off. He looked back and saw the warm light from Ji Ruan's room spreading out like a galaxy to his feet and then spreading out forward.

Ji Ruan stood at the door, holding a candy jar in his arms. When they looked at each other, he smiled again, and his smile was as warm as the light.

“Boss, boss——?”

The voice in the receiver woke Gu Xiuyi up.

"What's wrong with you?"

"…It's okay, go ahead."

Gu Xiuyi turned around, and with the light left for him by the children, he walked out of home step by step along the starry sky.

·

On the second night of the business trip, Gu Xiuyi received the first message that Ji Ruan sent to him while he was in a meeting.

Gu Xiuyi clicked it and saw a bright red candy wrapper neatly spread out on the desk.

[It really tastes like cherry]

[I thought it was strawberry, but after eating it I found it was cherry, a little sour and a little sweet, very delicious]

[But there is only this one, let me show you the candy wrapper~]

Gu Xiuyi felt a little dizzy from the continuous news. It was as if he had synesthesia and his mouth tasted sweet even though he didn't eat the candy.

Ji Ruan only showed him the candy wrapper once, but he looked at it repeatedly several times.

Then he clicked on the note, hesitated for a moment, deleted Ji Ruan's name, and replaced it with the cherry icon that came with the input method.

"...Mr. Gu?"

The staff in front of the projection screen held the pen in their hands and trembled: "You...what are you laughing at...it's my presentation that's not good..."

Gu Xiuyi leaned on his chair to suppress his laughter and took a closer look at the PPT: "The proposal is good, you can continue."

This was the first time this employee had been praised since joining the company. He was so excited that he held his ID card tightly and said, "Thank you, boss! I will work hard!"

After drinking the milk, Ji Ruan received a reply from Gu Xiuyi.

[I see.]

Three words that convey absolutely no emotion.

Ji Ruan was not surprised. He pouted and took out his iPad to start watching TV series.

·

Three days later, early morning at the airport.

Xiaoya followed Song Ling dragging her suitcase. She looked haggard and had dark circles under her eyes that reached down to her chin.

"What happened to the boss?!" She held up five fingers: "Five days! He finished his work in five days instead of half a month! I haven't slept for dozens of hours! Will the company compensate me for death from overwork?!"

Song Ling pretended to be serious and said, "Of course I will compensate you."

Before Xiaoya's fist could hit his face, he quickly dodged and smiled apologetically: "I'm just kidding. If you come back early, you can have a day off, right? This is called improving efficiency."

"What the hell!" Xiaoya's ladylike image was completely gone. She was afraid that Gu Xiuyi in front of her would hear her, so she had to lower her voice: "I still have a meeting to attend when I get back!"

"There's only one left," Song Ling raised his eyebrows. "I'll be given a vacation after the meeting and a bonus. Isn't that good enough, boss?"

Xiaoya snorted softly: "Am I the kind of person who would bow down for a few pieces of silver? ... How much more?"

Song Ling smacked his lips: "Anyway, you will definitely be satisfied."

For the sake of money, Xiaoya finally behaved like a lady again. She glanced at Gu Xiuyi's tall back and sighed, "How can he not be tired? Who gets more energetic the longer they are on a business trip?"

Song Ling smiled mysteriously: "That is to say, maybe there is some motivation for you to come back early."

Xiaoya didn’t quite understand.

"Song Ling," Gu Xiuyi suddenly turned around and said, "Tell someone to move my luggage back to the villa. I'm going to move back in today."

Each of Ji Ruan's problems might not seem serious on its own, but when combined together they turned the child into a crystal doll that would break if touched.

Aunt Zhao is old after all, and no matter how thin Ji Ruan is, he is still an adult boy. If he suddenly feels dizzy on the stairs again, Aunt Zhao may not be able to take care of him.

Gu Xiuyi can't just happen to run into it by chance every time, so moving back is the wisest choice.

"Okay," Song Ling said immediately, "I'll get it done before dinner."

Gu Xiuyi nodded with satisfaction: "Please order a few more sets of sheets and quilt covers for me. The size of the bed at home is different from that in the apartment."

"Okay." Song Ling wrote them down one by one.

"By the way," Gu Xiuyi emphasized, "Let's order a few sets for Ji Ruan as well. I wonder what size his bed is."

Song Ling was taking notes on the memo when he heard this and said, "The beds in the dormitory are all of the same size, I'll go check it out later."

Gu Xiuyi suddenly stopped.

Song Ling and Xiaoya were caught off guard and almost bumped into each other.

"What dormitory?" Gu Xiuyi's expression suddenly became very serious.

Sensing the sudden change in the atmosphere, Song Ling blinked and spoke respectfully, "Ji Ruan will be living in the dormitory when school starts. He should start packing up in the next two days."

Gu Xiuyi seemed to be frozen in place, with no expression on his face, but the air pressure had already made Xiaoya afraid to get close.

He had totally forgotten.

Living in the dormitory is a common practice when entering Kyoto University. He had also agreed to live on campus during his freshman year. However, it had been so long since graduation that he had actually forgotten the most important thing!

Gu Xiuyi pinched his eyebrows hard, turned around and walked away.

Xiaoya quickly reminded: "Boss! Meeting..."

Gu Xiuyi didn't stop for a moment, his voice echoed coldly in the empty hall: "Change the route."
