Chapter 8

Chapter 8

On the way home, Ji Ruan fell asleep in the car.

I slept very deeply, almost the most unconscious and unconscious sleep since I came into this world.

Even after the car stopped and the door was opened, the sunlight poured in, but it only made Ji Ruan curl up subconsciously, but he couldn't wake up.

Gu Xiuyi held onto the door frame and called out to Ji Ruan several times, but the person sitting in the seat did not respond. It was unclear whether he could not hear him or had fainted from sleep.

Gu Xiuyi waited for a few seconds, and had no choice but to bend down and reach into the car to check on Ji Ruan's condition.

Ji Ruan leaned his head against the back of the chair with his right ear pressed down. Gu Xiuyi pinched Ji Ruan's face to expose his ear, and the small external machine was turned off again.

I slept like I was isolated from the world...

He pressed the cochlear implant for Ji Ruan, and when he let go he discovered that Ji Ruan's cheek had been pinched red by him, leaving two clear fingerprints on the white skin.

Because he was so close, Gu Xiuyi could clearly see the fine hairs on Ji Ruan's face. His face was tender and smooth, and his skin texture was amazingly good.

This kind of skin, which is full of vitality like a plump fruit, belongs only to children of this age and is God's gift to "youth".

“…”

Gu Xiuyi's hands were stiff.

Once again, I feel proud of my eighteen-year-old body.

He patted Ji Ruan's face and said in a tense voice: "Ji Ruan, it's time to wake up."

Suddenly, his ears were filled with clear sounds, and Ji Ruan's eyelashes trembled violently. There were cicadas chirping, wind, and the sound of Gu Xiuyi calling his name.

At this moment, the world seemed to be activated and everything became colorful.

Gu Xiuyi pulled away just before Ji Ruan opened his eyes.

The midsummer sun was blindingly bright. Ji Ruan narrowed his eyes and saw Gu Xiuyi standing upright by the car door, holding onto it. The sunlight created a halo around him, making everything look hazy.

"Why are you sleeping so deeply?" Gu Xiuyi asked him.

Ji Ruan subconsciously raised his hand to cover his eyes: "No..."

As soon as the words came out of his mouth, Ji Ruan instinctively felt that something was wrong, the voice was wrong, and his throat was itchy.

Before his slow consciousness could fully recover, his throat felt like a bunch of cotton was ignited, and an itchy feeling instantly burst out from his throat.

“Ahem…!”

Ji Ruan suddenly bent down, supported himself on his knees and started coughing violently.

If Gu Xiuyi hadn't been quick enough to pull him aside, he would have fallen out of the car and knelt on the cobblestone path in the yard.

"Cough... cough cough cough - damn... cough! - cough cough -"

This sudden and violent coughing caught Ji Ruan off guard. He bent over, his face flushed, his blood pressure suddenly rose, and he coughed so hard that his head hurt.

Gu Xiuyi had never seen such a scene before. It took him two seconds to react before he put his hand on Ji Ruan's back and patted him: "What's going on?"

Ji Ruan was speechless.

Gu Xiuyi took pictures for a while and found that not only did he not take a good picture of Ji Ruan, but it seemed that the more he took pictures, the more violently the child coughed.

Gu Xiuyi didn't know what was wrong with his technique, but he didn't dare to move. He could only stand there patiently and serve as a human support for Ji Ruan.

In the end, Ji Ruan recovered on his own.

He ignored Gu Xiuyi, stood up tremblingly, and walked towards the door in two or three steps.

Gu Xiuyi didn't let Song Ling continue to follow him. He told him to go off work after a few words, then quickly caught up with Ji Ruan and supported him as he walked forward.

Not long after they walked, Ji Ruan started coughing again. He coughed so hard that he squatted on the ground and couldn't get up. Tears flowed out like rain.

Gu Xiuyi had no choice but to squat down with Ji Ruan and lift Ji Ruan's chin to look at his expression.

At four or five in the afternoon, the scorching sun in the sky showed no sign of letting up, and the ground was as hot as the Flaming Mountain after being baked all day.

A layer of sweat soon appeared on Ji Ruan's forehead, and his complexion looked extremely bad.

Gu Xiuyi had a hunch that if he continued coughing like this, he would probably vomit.

But the short path in the yard became far away because Ji Ruan lost his ability to move.

It's really hot.

Gu Xiuyi didn't want to delay any longer, so he pulled Ji Ruan's arms around his shoulders and said without hesitation: "I'll carry you in?"

Ji Ruan was coughing so hard that he felt dizzy and dark, but he heard these words.

In fact, he had wanted Gu Xiuyi to help for a long time. It didn't matter if he had to hold him in his arms, carry him on his back, or even lift him up. As long as he could get him from here into the house, Ji Ruan would accept anything.

But he was coughing so hard that he was unable to communicate except sobbing, so Gu Xiuyi's words came to his rescue.

Ji Ruan nodded repeatedly with tears in her eyes and patted Gu Xiuyi's shoulder three times anxiously.

Hug me, hold me, hold me quickly!

Like whipping the horse's butt while riding a horse.

Gu Xiuyi: “…”

I can't tell why, but it feels a bit strange.

·

In the villa, Aunt Zhao was humming a little tune and was about to start cooking dinner. When she heard someone coming back, she washed her hands and went to greet them. What she saw was Gu Xiuyi standing straight, and Ji Ruan, who was hanging on Gu Xiuyi's body, like a little koala melted by the sun.

"Hey! What's wrong?!" Aunt Zhao hurried forward and gently touched Ji Ruan's furry head. "What's wrong, Ruan Ruan?"

Ji Ruan likes Aunt Zhao the most.

When he heard the sound, his ears moved. He raised his head from Gu Xiuyi's shoulder and opened his mouth to speak, but Gu Xiuyi pressed the back of his head and pushed his mouth back.

"It's okay, Aunt Zhao, please call a doctor over." Gu Xiuyi said.

Then he looked at Ji Ruan's round head and said fiercely, "Don't talk, or you'll cough on me again."

What does it mean to cough him all over?!

Ji Ruan was stunned with anger. He always covered his mouth when he coughed!

Not only was he not allowed to talk to Aunt Zhao but he also despised him. Ji Ruan clenched his fists and vented his anger by hitting Gu Xiuyi on the shoulder. The next second, the man threw him up in retaliation, causing his heart and lungs to ache. He couldn't help but start coughing again.

Gu Xiuyi put Ji Ruan on the bed, and after Aunt Zhao caught up with him, he went outside to wash his hands. When he came back, the room was in a completely different scene.

Ji Ruan couldn't stop coughing because of him. Aunt Zhao sat by the bed, hugged Ji Ruan and kept coaxing her:

"Oh, why is our baby so uncomfortable after going out?"

"Are you catching a cold or getting hot?"

"Oh, our baby..."

Aunt Zhao has always been soft-hearted and particularly likes children, especially cute ones like Ji Ruan. Even though Ji Ruan is already eighteen years old, she can still treat him like a three-year-old child without any burden and coax him with all her heart.

Gu Xiuyi has always known this, but when he heard the word "baby" three times in person, he still felt a little annoyed and pinched his eyebrows hard.

It’s bad enough that Aunt Zhao is being clingy, but what’s rare is that Ji Ruan is also willing to stay in her arms and act coquettishly.

Perhaps it's because the atmosphere of maternal love emanating from Aunt Zhao is too strong. A child like Ji Ruan, who lost his mother at an early age, will inevitably become particularly dependent when he feels sad.

Thinking of this, Gu Xiuyi could no longer criticize Ji Ruan's coquettish behavior.

He looked at the old and the young in the room without saying a word. Aunt Zhao put her hand on Ji Ruan's back and moved it down little by little with a little force. After several times, Ji Ruan's cough was indeed better.

Is this the method?

Gu Xiuyi recalled how hard he had patted Ji Ruan on the back, and coughed with his hands covering his lips in embarrassment.

Aunt Zhao coaxed Ji Ruan for a while. Although Ji Ruan's cough was not as severe as at the beginning, it was still intermittent and could not be stopped.

She looked at Gu Xiuyi with a worried look on her face: "Xiao Gu, why don't you go get a glass of warm water and bring up some cough syrup."

Gu Xiuyi leaned against the door frame, took off his suit jacket, rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt to his elbows, and unbuttoned two buttons of his collar, which was wrinkled by Ji Ruan.

His cold and aloof temperament was at odds with the cozy atmosphere in the room. Although the villa clearly belonged to him, he looked like an outsider standing inside.

Gu Xiuyi was slightly stunned: "Me?"

Aunt Zhao paused, then realized that she was so anxious that she lost her mind. How could she order Gu Xiuyi around?

She patted her forehead quickly and said with a smile: "Xiao Gu, you hold Ruan Ruan, I'll go get the syrup."

Hug Ji Ruan?

How is that possible.

This child was too restless. Once in his arms, he scratched, clawed and hit people. Gu Xiuyi's shirt was completely ruined.

Hug him?

He would never be able to hug Ji Ruan again in his life.

Gu Xiuyi turned around and walked out: "Syrup... is it in the locker on the first floor?"

Aunt Zhao couldn't help but smile when she saw this scene, and shouted to the corridor: "Yes! In the medicine box on the left side of the second floor of the locker!"

Ji Ruan did catch a cold, for unknown reasons. It could be that the air-conditioning outside was too strong and he caught a cold, or it could be that he stayed outside all day and was fooled by the temperature difference between hot and cold.

The whole villa became chaotic because of Ji Ruan, and things gradually calmed down until the doctor came and gave Ji Ruan an IV.

Gu Xiuyi and Aunt Zhao left Ji Ruan's room together, closed the door gently, took a long breath, and sighed: "Aunt Zhao, don't make fried food for him in the future, and don't let him drink ice water, his throat is too bad..."

Aunt Zhao suppressed her laughter and said, "I see. I just didn't expect you to accompany Ruan Ruan to eat fried chicken. I remember you were so annoying when you were a child. You said it was unhealthy."

Gu Xiuyi's shirt was full of the smell of fried chicken. He pinched the collar and sniffed it, then immediately frowned in disgust, and then sighed: "Isn't he still young..."

Since you are so young, you can only give in.

Aunt Zhao stopped talking and laughed faintly. Gu Xiuyi turned his head and asked, "What are you laughing at?"

"No, no, it's fine," Aunt Zhao waved her hand, "Go take a shower, I'm going to cook, it's fine, it's fine..."

Gu Xiuyi: “…”

Ji Ruan's throat was more swollen than he had imagined. He almost completely lost his voice the next day. His ears had not been working well to begin with, and he became a little mute. He was deaf and mute and had to receive intravenous drips for a week before he could barely regain the ability to speak.

Gu Xiuyi was on a business trip again, and Ji Ruan didn't see him during the entire period of recuperation.

About half a month later, on a sunny but hot afternoon, Aunt Zhao was not at home. Ji Ruan was sitting on the floor of the living room holding Xiao An and watching a movie.

Gu Xiuyi came back at this time.

He was still wearing a full suit, and he looked tall and strong. When he walked towards Ji Ruan, there was a sense of familiarity yet a bit of strangeness.

He never seems to get tired. Even after being on a business trip for such a long time, there is no sign of fatigue on his face. Instead, he seems to be more energetic.

He came back with two bags, washed his hands and put them in front of Ji Ruan.

After not seeing each other for nearly half a month, Ji Ruan inexplicably felt a little strange. He sat there, not knowing how to start the conversation.

Gu Xiuyi stretched out two fingers and lifted Ji Ruan's chin, observing calmly for a moment: "You have lost weight."

Ji Ruan didn't expect him to attack right away. He was stunned for two seconds before dodging. He lowered his head and touched his chin. It seemed that he had lost some weight...

He has a sore throat and can't eat, so it's normal for him to lose weight.

"Ji Ruan." Gu Xiuyi called his name again.

Ji Ruan looked up.

Gu Xiuyi raised his chin and said, "Say something and let me hear it."

The tone was as if asking Xiao An to raise his paw for him.

Ji Ruan was dissatisfied and snorted: "Are you sick?"

Gu Xiuyi laughed and sat on the floor opposite Ji Ruan. He seemed to be in a good mood today. "Is your throat still not healed?"

Ji Ruan occasionally rubbed Xiao An's head: "It's almost fully recovered now."

"Yes," Gu Xiuyi responded with an ambiguous tone, and then said, "Then come back to Gu's house with me later."

"Gu's house?" Ji Ruan looked up suddenly. "Is it...your parents' house?"

Gu Xiuyi supported his jaw: "That's right."

Ji Ruan took a deep breath. Isn’t that the legendary old house!

For a wealthy family like Gu Xiuyi, the old house is simply a battlefield. Ji Ruan started to get a headache just thinking about it.

Gu Xiuyi didn't seem to take it seriously and immediately changed the subject: "Stretch out your hand."

Ji Ruan was still thinking about returning to the old house. He was uneasy and perfunctorily handed over his hand, but his wrist was immediately grabbed.

The next second, something cool was put on the ring finger. Ji Ruan came to his senses and realized it was a plain ring.

It’s a very simple and elegant style, exactly the same as the one on Gu Xiuyi’s ring finger.

Ji Ruan couldn't help being stunned for a moment.

Gu Xiuyi didn't look up at him, but held his wrist, as if admiring something with satisfaction, and told him nonchalantly:

"The ring has arrived."
