"Little Minister" has been published since December 10, 2019, and completed today, January 29, 2022, and exactly 780 days have passed.
I was less than 38 when I started writing this book, and now I am over 40. This book is really too long, and it’s time to end it.
Of course, many readers will feel that they are not satisfied with the story. This is inevitable for this kind of story, because we are extrapolating an era and imagining what kind of world our nation will live in if we do some things right.
In this case, it is not a story with a complete beginning, development and ending, but a fantasy history that is woven together by numerous and various events and moves forward continuously.
So there will inevitably be one problem after another. When one problem is solved, other problems will arise. Even if one problem is only solved temporarily, it will cause trouble again in the future. You can't find a perfect ending moment.
Just when you think you can take a breath, there are always a lot of problems. This is adult life, and this is what history should be like.
So I can only choose a relatively appropriate time point to put a pause on this story. I have always felt that it was very appropriate for Qi Jiguang to say those words while admiring the maple leaves at Mount Fuji.
Because at this point, the main struggle in the story is over. The achievements mentioned in the introduction are basically achieved (the one about Matteo Ricci is in the extra chapter), and the new struggle is just brewing. With Zhao Hao's prestige at its peak, it is not enough to become a big problem.
I have thought about ending it with the official founding of the country, but this would have too many flaws and I feel the tone would be lowered.
In fact, I think this book is very complete. All the questions are answered in it. It’s just that some of them are too explicit, you know, it’s better to savor them.
For example, the imperial system is definitely abolished at present. But will it be restored in the future? If the King of England wants to restore the monarchy, he has to wait until Cromwell dies. If he wants to restore the monarchy, he has to wait until Zhao Hao dies. So it will be at least several decades later.
As for the life or death of Wanli? I think it is very difficult for him to survive. Because political struggle is not a dinner party, because letting the people chop off the head of an emperor is very beneficial to the anti-imperialism. Because in the Longsha prophecy, eight hundred earthly immortals still have to kill the dragon to prove their truth.
But will Zhao Hao show some mercy and let him go to Xu Erye for reform? This is quite immature, but it is the ending I hope to see.
After all, he is just a fat nerd who is selfish and has no sense of the overall situation like you and me. He was just put in an inappropriate position. If we were to do it for him, maybe the three major expeditions would have failed. So the biggest problem is the family rule, and the inheritance of power from father to son (in fact, power is more than just public power).
So this question is a matter of opinion, and no one can convince anyone. I think it's ugly no matter how you write it. It's better to leave the guillotine there and let him be a fat otaku who is dying.
This is just an example. In short, there are all kinds of problems, and there is no end at all. Of course, if I continue to write, it will end, but it will be a 404.
So why not put an end to the most wonderful moment.
Of course, the story in the book is still going on. If you want to see the people and events in the follow-up, you can leave a message below. As long as the TV station allows it to be broadcast, I will write a few extra chapters after the Chinese New Year to entertain readers.
That's it.
I really feel exhausted, especially in the last few months, my days and nights have been completely reversed.
Writing this kind of book is really tiring. I have been blinded by looking up information and reading reference books every day. Yes, Mr. Zhao's eye disease is my eye disease. I also have back pain and insomnia... and there are too many pressures in life. I have not escaped any of the problems that people in middle age should encounter. It really takes up too much energy, and it may have caused the quality of my book to decline. I sincerely apologize to everyone again.
But there are also happy things. First of all, I have become a gentler person. Even in the most difficult times, my family is still full of love. Readers have given me great encouragement and comfort.
I said that since October, this book has become a haven for my soul to escape from reality. I hope it can continue to be written more than anyone else, but I really feel that it has reached its destination, so I should put on "Happy Tonight". If I write any more, it may become a ghost story...
I am also happy that the book has done very well, breaking my own record in terms of e-book subscriptions, and all the copies that should have been sold have been sold. In short, I have no regrets.
What made me even happier was that I found that my writing mentality was still very young, my writing attitude was also very positive, and I found my original passion for writing.
As for the new book, don't worry. I am exhausted both physically and mentally. I need to take a good rest after the Chinese New Year, exercise, and recharge my batteries. I need to spend more time with my family and think of a great story.
Because I now clearly realize that I am not young anymore. Even if I write one book every two years, how many books can I write? So I must take each of the next books very seriously, and not just do it as simply as possible. I have to be responsible for my own writing career... Of course, the core of good characters, good plots, and good rhythms will not change.
It must be a good story. I won’t post it if I’m not satisfied with it this time!
Finally, I would like to wish you all a happy new year in advance. I wish you all a prosperous new year! See you next year!
