"Xiahou Jing, ah Xiahou Jing, I never expected someone as ugly and vicious as you would come to Baiyun Temple to burn incense and worship Buddha."
After leaving the palace, Hua Qingcheng, riding her Xiangyun horse, followed closely behind the carriage of Xiahou Jing and Gongyang Jiezhen. However, to her surprise, the two women did not head directly north, but instead turned west and headed straight for Baiyun Temple.
"Of course. As the saying goes, sincerity is the key to success! If you worship the gods and Buddhas more often, you will always be blessed by them!" Xiahou Jing stretched out her hand to open the curtain of the carriage, jumped down gracefully, faced Hua Qingcheng, raised her eyebrows slightly, and had a meaningful smile on the corner of her mouth.
Unarmed, Hua Qingcheng had no choice but to follow Xiahou Jing and Gongyang Jiezhen into Baiyun Temple. However, she found that the once prosperous Baiyun Temple was now deserted and no longer popular.
Entering the temple, the empty hall seemed eerily desolate, devoid of the usual bustle of pilgrims praying devoutly. The monks were nowhere to be seen either, presumably controlled by Xiahou Jing's men. The remaining incense in the incense burner had long since died, and the offerings before the Buddha were covered in a thin layer of dust.
The courtyard was littered with fallen leaves, unraked, as if to convey the loneliness of the place. Only the occasional sound of the wind, blowing through the temple's bell and drum tower, produced a dull echo, making one sigh at the impermanence of life.
"Mother Queen, you are finally here."
Along with these words, a resounding and powerful voice, like the sound of a large bell, echoed through Hua Qingcheng's ears. She instinctively turned her head and saw a figure rapidly approaching. In the blink of an eye, it stood before her—it was none other than Xiahou Yu, clad in a tight, crimson-purple battle robe!
At this moment, Xia Houyu was striding out of the majestic Main Hall in the center of the temple. Her steps were vigorous and her footsteps were powerful, while her eyes were still arrogant and unrestrained, as if she didn't care about anything in the world.
It turned out that Xiahou Yu had stumbled upon a mysterious underground tunnel within Baiyun Temple. Initially, she was simply curious and wanted to explore its hidden secrets. However, she had no idea that not only was there a treasure trove of gold and silver not far from the entrance, but even more surprising was that if she continued along the passage, she could easily pass through the northern city gate and step directly out of the capital!
This time, Xiahou Jing had deliberately taken a detour to Baiyun Temple in the west of the city, aiming to use this secret passage to quietly leave the city. This way, she could remain unnoticed, ensuring a safe journey, while also avoiding the numerous checkpoints along the way, killing two birds with one stone.
"Yeah." Xia Houjing nodded slightly, then asked, "Where are the people?"
Xiahou Yu first glanced at Hua Qingcheng provocatively, then replied respectfully, "Don't worry, Queen Mother. I will carry out your instructions flawlessly. I have already sent Hua Rongsheng and Ye Maochun and his wife to Youzhou in advance. They must be arriving soon."
As soon as he finished speaking, Hua Qingcheng saw Xia Houyu pull out a wooden hairpin and a folding fan with an ink painting from his bosom. She immediately recognized them as belonging to Ye Maochun and Hua Rongsheng.
"Where are my mother and father? Xiahou Yu, where on earth did you hide them?" Hua Qingcheng's eyes were as sharp as knives, and she glared at Xiahou Yu, wishing she could tear her into pieces.
However, as Xia Hou Jing had said before, Hua Rongsheng's wife and husband were her weaknesses. Hua Qingcheng, who was afraid to act rashly, could only suppress her anger temporarily and try to extract more useful information from them.
"Nalan Qingcheng, you've been in the Imperial College for so long, yet you're still so stupid!"
Xiahou Yu scoffed, her eyes scornful, and she sarcastically said, "Didn't I tell you they've already reached Youzhou? I'll let you see them when you escort us safely out of the border. As for their current location, I'm not crazy or stupid enough to tell you so easily."
"Hahaha..." Xiahou Yu's sinister laughter suddenly echoed in the courtyard.
Now that Hua Rongsheng's wife and husband are in the hands of the other party, Hua Qingcheng can only temporarily suppress her anger and continue to deal with Xiahou Jing and her daughter.
At the end of the hour of Hai, the night deepened and all was silent. Hua Qingcheng cautiously followed Xiahou mother and daughter and Gongyang Jiezhen into the magnificent Main Hall of Baiyun Temple.
Upon entering the hall, Xiahou Yu nimbly approached the majestic Buddha statue in the center. Gently raising her delicate hand, she delicately moved the Buddha's left eye. Instantly, accompanied by a deafening rumble, the floor beneath the Buddha slowly shifted, revealing a dark crack. Instantly, a mysterious and dark passage unfolded before everyone.
Hua Qingcheng's eyes widened in astonishment. She had never imagined that such a shocking secret lay hidden within this seemingly ordinary temple. When she regained consciousness, she quickly followed Xiahou Jing and her daughter into the secret passage.
After exiting the secret passage, Xiahou Yu reached out again and gently pressed a hidden spot on the wall. Then, an astonishing scene occurred—the originally open entrance to the secret passage silently and automatically closed, as if it had never existed.
Under the dim, flickering candlelight on either side, Hua Qingcheng followed closely behind Xiahou Jing and her daughter, descending the steep stairs step by step. Gongyang Jiezhen walked at a leisurely pace at the end, euphemistically saying it was to prevent Hua Qingcheng from playing tricks.
