Chapter 21 The Guiding Fish

Xingyue and Dongming waved their sleeves lightly and put away the gorgeous and majestic attire of the goddess and the god king.

Soon after, they transformed into an ordinary human couple, strolling hand in hand through the world, enjoying the daily life of the mortal world.

On a sunny day, Xingyue and Dongming walked side by side and stepped into a quiet and peaceful village.

However, at this moment, their attention was attracted by a little boy who looked only five or six years old. The little boy's eyes were empty and lifeless, as if he had lost his soul. He stared straight at the pool of water in the back mountain, and his feet kept moving forward.

As the little boy continued to move towards the central water area, a heart-wrenching scene occurred: the water level gradually rose, first submerging his ankles, then his knees, and then his waist... As the little boy got closer and closer to the deep water area, the danger increased.

"Husband, the situation is not good! I might encounter an accident with that child." Xingyue turned to look at Dong Ming beside her and said with a worried look on her face.

Dong Ming nodded slightly, agreeing with his wife's opinion. He comforted her, "Don't panic, my lady. I'll go and rescue the child."

Before he finished speaking, Dong Ming's figure flashed, moving into the water like a phantom. He nimbly picked up the little boy who was about to continue moving toward the center of the water and brought him back to the shore.

Perhaps because he was frightened, or perhaps because he realized that he was in danger, the little boy who had been in a trance suddenly came to his senses and burst into tears. The cry was so heartbreaking that it echoed throughout the village and moved everyone.

In the fields not far away, a hardworking couple was busy tilling the land. Suddenly, a shrill cry reached their ears. The couple's hearts tightened, and they immediately stopped their work and ran towards the direction of the sound.

When they arrived, they were enraged by the scene before them – their young son was being held tightly under the armpits of a stranger. The child's father's eyes widened as he angrily demanded, "Who are you? Let my son go!"

At the same time, the child's mother was also terrified. She shouted at the top of her voice: "Help! Help! Someone is coming! There are bad guys trying to steal children! There are bad guys trying to steal our Er Gouzi!"

The cries for help resonated like thunder over the village, instantly shattering the tranquility. Upon hearing the news, the nearby villagers rushed over with hoes, shoulder poles, and shovels, determined to catch the wicked child thief.

At this moment, a middle-aged man emerged from the crowd. It was none other than Liu An, the village chief, a man of high esteem and respect. He looked at the chaotic scene with a serious expression and asked, "Er Gouzi's father, Er Gouzi's mother, what on earth happened?"

When Liu Dazhu saw the village chief, he felt like he had found a lifeline. He rushed forward and cried, "Village chief, you're finally here! These two guys from unknown origins actually tried to steal our precious Er Gouzi. This is simply too much!"

After saying that, he pointed at the strange man holding the child, his eyes filled with resentment and anger.

Liu An, the village chief of Liujia Village, followed the direction of Liu Dazhu's finger, his eyes as cold as ice, staring closely at the strange man who was holding Ergouzi tightly with his strong and powerful arms.

Liu An's voice seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, with a hint of coldness, as he said: "My brother, please be smart and put the child down immediately! As long as you do as I say, we can pretend that nothing happened. However, if you dare not listen to my advice, then you and your wife will never set foot out of Liujia Village today!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the villagers behind Liu An, carrying all sorts of farm tools, raised their weapons high in the air, as if receiving some kind of signal. Their faces were ferocious, their fangs bared, their claws bared, as if they were about to pounce and tear the person in front of them into pieces.

Xingyue, who was standing nearby, saw that the villagers had misunderstood and quickly stepped forward to explain to them, "Everyone, please don't be impulsive. You don't know that just now, this kid named Er Gouzi was bewitched by a guide fish and nearly died in the deep pool."

"The situation was extremely critical. If it weren't for my husband's quick eyesight and hands, who jumped into the water without hesitation to rescue him, right now, all you would have seen is the poor child's cold, lifeless corpse!"

Xingyue's voice was like the sound of an icy spring, its coolness yet imbued with an awe-inspiring majesty that seemed to pierce through people's hearts. The villagers, who had been boisterous and excited, were instantly silenced as if under a spell the moment they heard it.

At that moment, Dong Ming slowly put down the child who had regained consciousness in his arms, gently stroked his little head, and said in a gentle voice, "Little one, your name is Er Gouzi, right? Don't be afraid. Now, tell your mother, father, and these kind and enthusiastic villagers exactly what happened."

Dong Ming's deep, magnetic voice was like a clear spring on a summer day, nourishing everyone's hearts. The little boy had just experienced a life-or-death ordeal, saved by this brave and handsome older brother, and even held him tightly in his arms. He felt an indescribable sense of trust and dependence on Dong Ming.

Er Gouzi sobbed and spoke incoherently, "Mom, Dad, and the village chief, I just saw a super big, beautiful fish. I thought to myself that if I could catch it, Mom would make us a pot of delicious fish soup. So I chased the fish desperately, but every time I was about to catch it, the fish slipped away as if it had wings. Later, all I could think of was the image of that fish, and I walked into the deep pool in a daze..."
