Chapter 25: Late Night Wedding

At noon on August 15th, the sun was blazing, yet the once peaceful and tranquil Liujia Village was now shrouded in a gloomy atmosphere.

At this moment, many kindhearted villagers who had come to help were having lunch at the home of the village chief, Liu An. They were all silent, without the slightest smile of celebration on their faces, and only occasionally exchanged a few words in low voices.

At the same time, in the mysterious water palace at the bottom of the deep pool in the back mountain, a different scene appeared.

I saw a young man in a black robe with a charming face, lying on a gorgeous couch with his eyes slightly closed, taking a leisurely nap.

Suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps shattered the silence. A short, panicked soldier trotted into the palace. Panting heavily, he approached the black-robed man and called out eagerly, "Your Majesty! Your Majesty!"

The black-robed man heard the sound and slowly opened his eyes. His eyebrows, slanting down to his temples, were as delicate and sharp as if drawn with a brush. His narrow, phoenix-like eyes narrowed slightly, emitting a chilling light. This cold, sinister look made him appear utterly evil, cold, and heartless.

"How is it?" The black-robed man opened his thin lips slightly, his voice cold and with a hint of majesty and oppression.

The shrimp soldier quickly bowed and replied respectfully, "Your Majesty, after careful investigation by our subordinates, we have found that the villagers are quite law-abiding. Reliable information indicates that they are currently happily planning a grand wedding for you and your wife!"

Upon hearing the news, the black-robed man raised the corners of his mouth slightly, with a faint smile on his slightly pale face, as if he was quite satisfied with the villagers' behavior.

Then he continued to ask, "So, which daughter do these villagers of Liujia Village plan to offer to me as my beloved wife?"

The shrimp soldier didn't dare to neglect the matter and quickly answered truthfully, "Your Majesty, according to the intelligence we've received, the lucky person chosen to be your wife this time is Miss Liu Xue'er, the daughter of the village chief Liu An."

After saying that, the shrimp soldier secretly looked up and glanced at the man in black robe, observing his reaction to this matter.

"Is it that sickly girl?" The man in black robe lowered his eyes slightly, seeming a little dissatisfied, but when he thought about the woman's appearance, he didn't care.

Time has passed quietly without us noticing, and it has reached dusk.

After having a good meal and drink at Liu An's house, the villagers of Liujia Village helped pack up their belongings, and then they set out on their journey home one after another.

As the sun set and the dusk deepened, the mood of Liu An and his wife became increasingly heavy.

However, despite thousands of reluctances in their hearts, they knew clearly that no matter how much they resisted, the night would eventually come as scheduled.

At this moment, Liu Xue'er, who was inside the house, was filled with nervousness. Her beautiful eyes fixed on Xingyue, and she asked worriedly, "Sister Yue, is it really okay to do this? If the King of Ximing accidentally finds out, will it implicate my father, mother, and the villagers of Liujia Village?"

Xingyue smiled and patted Liu Xueer's shoulder gently, saying softly, "Don't be afraid, Xueer. I promise you that what you're worried about will never happen."

With Xingyue's careful comfort, Liu Xueer's originally restless mood finally slowly calmed down.

Just at this moment, a series of rhythmic and extremely light knocking sounds were heard from outside the house.

Xingyue reacted extremely quickly. She waved her delicate hands quickly, and in the blink of an eye, Liu Xueer magically turned into her appearance.

"Remember what your sister told you, we will act according to the plan." Xingyue reminded her again. Seeing Liu Xueer nodded, Xingyue went to open the door.

(At this time, Xingyue and Liu Xueer exchanged their appearances and became each other's appearance.)

With a creaking sound, Xingyue, who looked like Liu Xueer, opened the door.

Liu An, who treated Xingyue as his own daughter, said distressedly: "Xue'er, it's Daddy who's sorry for you! If you regret it now, it's not too late..."

Li Qiuxiang held Xingyue's hand and said with tears in her eyes, "Xue'er, your life has been too hard. Mother is useless and can't save you..."

Xingyue glanced at Liu Xue'er, who stood beside them with red eyes, then shook her head at Liu An and his wife. Using Liu Xue'er's tone, she comforted them, "Dad, Mom, things have come to this point. Once the arrow is shot, there's no turning back. If Xue'er backs down, I'm afraid King Xi Ming won't let it go. If you want to do this for Xue'er's own good, since it's late now and it's unsafe to travel at night, please take Sister Yue in for the night."

"Xue'er..." Liu An and his wife looked at their daughter, tears streaming down their cheeks. They nodded and agreed to her request.

At midnight, bursts of loud firecrackers were heard outside the courtyard, breaking the tranquility of the night. Immediately afterwards, joyful and festive sounds also rang out.

"Liu An, Li Qiuxiang, the auspicious time has arrived, why don't you quickly prepare the bride for the sedan chair? If we delay the auspicious time, I'm afraid the King of Xi Ming will definitely blame you. Not only will you three be held responsible, but the entire Liujia Village will also be implicated!"

As the sorcerer's high-pitched and commanding voice reached them, Liu An and his wife, Li Qiuxiang, trembled violently, as if struck by thunder. Tears welled in their eyes, but they could do nothing but slowly carry "Liu Xue'er," with her bright red veil on her head, to the bridal sedan, their hearts filled with grief.

Before leaving, Xingyue, who was sitting in the sedan chair, gently lifted a corner of her red veil and gave Liu Xueer a meaningful look, as if suggesting that she should stay in the room obediently and not walk around at will.
