People in ancient rural areas had few entertainment activities at night. They would go to bed early and get up early to work the next day. It was rare for Hua Qingcheng to have a good night's sleep.
When she got up at 4:45 AM, Mu Lige was already cooking.
"Good morning, my wife!"
Mu Lige was surprised to see Hua Qingcheng, who usually slept until noon, got up so early this morning.
"Good morning, Li Ge! I'm going to take a walk around the back mountain. You can have breakfast first. You don't have to wait for me."
After saying that, Hua Qingcheng went to the utility room and found a bamboo backpack and a sickle. After putting the sickle into the bamboo basket, Hua Qingcheng picked it up and was about to go out, but was stopped by Mu Lige.
"Wife, wait!"
Mu Lige turned around and went back to the kitchen, fetched a bamboo tube of water, took out a coarse flour bun from the pot, wrapped it in a handkerchief, and ran to the door to catch up with Hua Qingcheng.
"Wife, here are some water and steamed buns for you to eat on the road. Also, I heard there are wild beasts in the deep mountains, so don't go too far when you go up there."
Hua Qingcheng felt a slight warmth in her heart as she took the bamboo tube and the steamed bun wrapped in a handkerchief that Mu Lige handed over. She had never expected the original owner's doctor to be so considerate. This was the first time she had ever been cared for so meticulously.
"Okay, I understand. Go back and remember to close the gate. You can eat first and don't have to wait for me."
After Hua Qingcheng put the things into the backpack, she walked towards Pinglan Mountain behind the house.
Pinglan Mountain is located in Huaqiao Village, Baishui Town, Fufeng County. It is a place of picturesque scenery and chirping birds. Along the way, Hua Qingcheng encountered several teenagers who were going up the mountain to collect wild vegetables.
"Hey, who is that girl? Why have I never seen her before?"
Two or three young men who went up the mountain to pick wild vegetables saw the beautiful Hua Qingcheng and couldn't help but whisper to each other.
Hearing Hua Xiaoyun's words, a handsome young man also looked over. Seeing that it was a pretty girl, he couldn't help but blush and said, "Maybe she is just passing by our village?"
"That's true. After all, I've never seen her before. Look at her appearance, she's obviously a gigolo. With those thin arms and legs, how can she carry a hoe?" Hua Anton said disdainfully.
"Maybe he is a scholar?" the handsome young man retorted.
"Wenjie, are you attracted to her?"
Hua Xiaoyun winked at him with a gossipy look on her face.
Compared to the current Laifeng country's standard of choosing a wife who is tall, strong and broad-shouldered, Hua Wenjie prefers this kind of woman with a gentle and delicate appearance.
Hearing Hua Xiaoyun's teasing, Hua Wenjie's handsome face turned slightly red, and he hurriedly patted his companion, "I told you not to talk nonsense, I told you not to talk nonsense!" The latter laughed continuously.
Hua Qingcheng, who had excellent hearing, naturally heard the whispers of these young men, but she was too lazy to pay attention to these gossips and continued walking up the mountain.
The local villagers had explored the area outside Pinglan Mountain countless times. Apart from some wild vegetables that didn't look very good, Hua Qingcheng didn't feel there was anything worth picking, so she decided to explore deep into the mountains.
"Girl, wait a minute."
Seeing that Hua Qingcheng was actually preparing to walk into the mountains, Hua Wenjie caught up with her breathlessly.
Seeing that it was one of the three gossipers, Hua Qingcheng said in a slightly cold tone, "What's the matter?"
"Girl, I heard there are tigers in the deep mountains. It's very dangerous there. It's better for you not to go in."
Ignoring the other party's cold attitude, Hua Wenjie explained a little anxiously.
"Thank you for the reminder, young man, but I know my limits."
After Hua Qingcheng finished speaking, she ignored him and continued on her way.
Hua Wenjie sighed slightly, watching Hua Qingcheng's departing back with a hint of worry. Seeing that she wouldn't listen to his advice, he could only let her go. After all, she wasn't familiar with him, so he couldn't continue to pester her.
After shaking off the crowd outside, Hua Qingcheng walked into the deep mountains. On a large rock, Hua Qingcheng put down her backpack and took out the water and steamed buns that Mu Lige had prepared for her. She ate while looking around.
After breakfast, Hua Qingcheng threw the bamboo tube of water back into her backpack, and folded the handkerchief she had wrapped the steamed buns in and put it in her arms. Putting the bamboo basket back on, Hua Qingcheng began her journey to Pinglan Mountain again.
Because few people set foot in the deep mountains, everything is in its original state, with towering trees, thorns everywhere, and overgrown weeds.
While no one was around, Hua Qingcheng sneaked into the villa and took out a new type of tranquilizer gun from the study. It was only about the size of an ordinary pistol, but it was loaded with enhanced tranquilizer bullets. One bullet was enough to knock out an adult tiger weighing seven or eight hundred kilograms.
Putting the tranquilizer gun in her arms, Hua Qingcheng, holding the sickle, cut through the thorns and went forward despite the difficulties. Although the road was not easy, she believed that opportunities and challenges always coexisted.
In a bamboo forest, Hua Qingcheng dug up a lot of fresh bamboo shoots. However, the basket was so small, so Hua Qingcheng only picked a few and put them in, throwing the rest into the villa yard.
After leaving the bamboo forest, Hua Qingcheng dug up some fresh, juicy wild vegetables, picked some mushrooms, and gathered some bayberries. She also gathered a number of Chinese herbs, including honeysuckle, andrographis paniculata, scutellaria baicalensis, dandelion, wolfberry, mint, bupleurum, and plantain. Again, she only put a portion of the items in her backpack, leaving the rest in the villa. As a skilled agent, she often encountered survival challenges in the wild, and knowing some Chinese herbs for self-preservation was simply one of the essential skills.
As time went by and the sun rose higher, the ancient trees in the forest towered into the sky, casting dappled shadows. Hua Qingcheng hit a few running hares and pheasants with small stones, then tied their legs with vines and threw two of them into a backpack, while the rest were placed in the villa's yard.
