March 11th, early morning.
Laifeng Kingdom, Prime Minister's Residence, Hanxiang Courtyard.
The bright sunshine shines on the elegant courtyard, and the atmosphere is warm and peaceful.
Ye Ling'er gently pushed open the door of the main room and walked in. Her eyes fell on Lian Xing, who was sitting by the window, concentrating on her needlework.
"Dad~"
Ye Ling'er quickly walked over to Lian Xing and said disapprovingly, "How can you be so unreasonable? Didn't the Imperial Lord Han warn you? He said that you're only a month pregnant now, the fetus isn't stable yet, and you're carrying three babies at once, so you shouldn't overwork yourself. Let the embroidery master in the mansion do all this work."
There was a hint of anger in her voice, but more of it was heartache for her father.
Lian Xing's eyes dropped slightly when he heard this. He first gently stroked his belly, which hadn't even shown yet. Then he raised his head and looked at his daughter with a smile. His eyes shone with the soft light of a loving father. "Ling'er, I'm just bored. I thought about making some clothes for the children."
Hearing Lian Xing's words, Ye Ling'er sighed helplessly. She knew that her father had always been a hardworking man and was unwilling to be idle even when he was pregnant.
Ye Ling'er sometimes wondered why her father's belly had been as fertile as fertile land nourished by gentle rain since he married her. First, he was pregnant with quadruplets, then with twins. Now, he was pregnant with his fourth child, and it was said that there were three little ones in his belly.
However, perhaps because of the deep affection between his father and mother, his mother had never taken a concubine, and there were no maids in the mansion. His father was nurtured by the full love of his wife. Even though he was already thirty-five years old this year and had given birth to seven children, he looked only in his early thirties and was still young and handsome.
"But Dad, this is too hard for you. You have to take good care of yourself so that you can give birth to healthy babies." Ye Ling'er gently stroked Lian Xing's still flat belly, her eyes full of concern.
Lian Xing felt her daughter's concern, and her heart warmed. She said softly, "I will be careful and won't tire myself out. Don't worry, Ling'er."
Ye Ling'er nodded, then changed the subject and said, "Dad, have you thought of any names for your younger sisters or brothers?"
Lian Xing smiled, a glimmer of anticipation flashing in her eyes: "I haven't decided yet, but after they are born, I will slowly discuss it with your mother."
Ye Ling'er nodded slightly. She watched Lian Xing continue to do needlework and prayed silently in her heart, hoping that her father and her unborn brothers and sisters would be safe and healthy.
Just as Ye Ling'er was lost in thought, a powerful voice came over: "Ling'er, now that you're back, don't run around anymore. Just stay in the capital. In the past few years, it's been harder for me to see you than to see the emperor!"
Ye Ling'er turned her head to look at the door, and sure enough, she saw Situ Wanqing, dressed in the imperial robes of a university scholar. Seeing this, she hurried forward, affectionately took Situ Wanqing's arm, and kept rubbing her head against Situ Wanqing's chest, calling out sweetly, "Mother!"
"You naughty monkey!" Situ Wanqing rubbed Ye Ling'er's head lovingly and scolded with a smile.
Then, Situ Wanqing walked over to Lianxing, took the half-finished dress from his hands, and said distressedly, "Liangchen, how about... after this baby, we don't have another one. I feel guilty for all the hard work you've put in."
Lian Xing's cheeks flushed slightly upon hearing this, and she said a little embarrassedly, "Sir, Liangchen is already thirty-five this year. Even if she wants to have another child in the future, she may not be able to conceive! Besides, Liangchen doesn't feel it's hard to bear children for you and expand the Situ family."
"Tsk tsk tsk~"
"My dear father~"
Ye Ling'er, who was suddenly fed a mouthful of dog food, rubbed the non-existent goose bumps on her arms exaggeratedly, causing Lian Xing to glare at her in anger.
Seeing her husband embarrassed, Situ Wanqing coughed twice and quickly changed the subject, saying, "Liangchen, in my opinion, we should find a husband for Ling'er as soon as possible to keep her under control. This will also prevent her from becoming unruly and running around everywhere. It's not easy for us as her parents to see her even once!"
Hearing his wife's words, Lian Xing nodded in agreement, "Ling'er, you are seventeen this year. You have already paid the single tax for a year. It's time to get married."
Ye Ling'er hadn't expected that she would suddenly become the focus of discussion, and that they were urging her to get married. She said awkwardly, "Mom, Dad, could it be that you think Ling'er is getting in the way and want her to settle down and live on her own as soon as possible?"
Situ Wanqing raised her hand and flicked Ye Ling'er's forehead, scolding her with a smile, "You heartless fellow! Aren't your mother and father hoping that you can get married and start a family soon? We have no shortage of money in our family, and you've earned quite a bit outside. It's time for you to take on the responsibility of supporting your family and carrying on the family line!"
Ye Ling'er covered her forehead and stuck out her tongue at Situ Wanqing, but smiled without saying a word, and listened obediently to her mother's teachings.
"Ah~" Seeing that Ye Ling'er was as slippery as a loach, Situ Wanqing was finally helpless with her eldest daughter.
Situ Wanqing sighed helplessly, shook her head, then took a sip of tea from her cup. She sighed, "Look at Hua Qingguo. As the emperor's younger brother, he shouldn't have any trouble finding a husband, right? But isn't the emperor also worried about his marriage? Otherwise, he wouldn't have issued an edict to recruit a son-in-law for Hua Qingguo throughout the Laifeng Empire."
Upon hearing this, Ye Ling'er's heart was shaken. A hint of sadness flashed across her watery eyes. She asked anxiously, "Mother, is this true?"
Situ Wanqing nodded: "Of course, the imperial decree issued by the emperor himself is not a joke."
