Chapter 13

Because she wasn't allowed to stay in the bedroom, Bai Li looked listless when Xie Chen rubbed her fur on his lap.

"Meow."

I'm sleepy.

Bai Li nestled her head in Xie Chen's arms and meowed softly.

Xie Chen looked up at the time; it was indeed getting late.

He picked up the kitten from his arms and handed it to Uncle Xie outside, asking Uncle Xie to put the kitten in its cat bed to sleep.

Good night, sir.

"Meow." Goodnight.

Uncle Xie and the kitten, one big and one small, looked at him and said goodnight. Xie Chen raised an eyebrow, closed the door, but did not lock it.

No one can enter his room without his permission, so it doesn't matter whether the door is locked or not.

"Kitty."

In the corridor, Uncle Xie carried Bai Li out, talking to him in a low voice as they walked: "Why do you always want to run away? Are you uncomfortable living here?"

Bai Li tilted her head back and said, "Meow."

No.

Uncle Xie sighed, put the cat in its bed, and fed it some more.

Night was falling.

Bai Li spent another night trying to dispel the black mist for Xie Chen. Perhaps because she was kissed in the car before going to sleep, after dispelling the black mist, Bai Li squatted in front of Xie Chen's handsome face, looking at his slightly pale lips, and even wanted to be kissed.

"Meow."

Bai Li stretched out her paw, but instead of touching Xie Chen's face, she touched his eyes.

Those eyes left a deep impression on Bai Li's mind. He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt as if he had seen those eyes before when they were crying.

After lingering in the bedroom for a while, Bai Li ran back to the cat's bed, waiting for Uncle Xie to call him for breakfast.

"I've packed all these dried fish into a bag for you. If you insist on running out during the day, I won't stop you, but remember to come back at night, okay?"

At the dining table, Uncle Xie tied the packaged dried fish around Bai Li's neck and gently discussed it with him.

Bai Li tilted her head and used cat hypnosis: "Meow."

I have to work outside to take care of my younger brother, so I probably won't be able to come back every day.

Uncle Xie patted his head and said with a sigh, "Alas, I've encountered a little kitten that won't come home."

"Come back whenever you have time, and I won't let the security guards stop you," Uncle Xie relented, reminding the kitten to come back more often.

Bai Li nodded: "Meow."

Okay! I'll come back often.

After the man and the cat finished discussing, Uncle Xie handed Bai Li directly to Xie Chen, asking Xie Chen to look at him before letting him go.

Bai Li, carrying dried fish, stared at Xie Chen, who had just woken up.

"Meow!"

Bai Li took the bag containing dried fish off the shelf and pushed it in front of Xie Chen.

Sir, here's some dried fish for you.

Xie Chen glanced at the dried fish and said indifferently, "Too oily, I don't like it."

Bai Li frowned and retorted, "Meow."

It's not oily, and it tastes good.

Xie Chen still didn't want it, but the little kitten, who had been rejected time and time again, looked at him with tears welling up in its eyes, as if it was about to burst into tears at any moment.

Xie Chen: "..."

Xie Chen looked at those beautiful, wet eyes, and at Uncle Xie standing beside the kitten, pleading with his eyes for him not to be too heartless. Finally, he did what he had to do.

"Alright."

He reached out, picked up a small dried fish, and put it in his mouth.

The dried anchovies were fried until crispy, and even people could eat them; otherwise, Uncle Xie wouldn't have let him eat them.

Bai Li saw him eat a small dried fish and happily went over to rub against him.

Back when he lived in the mountains, his elders taught him very well; he was a good kitten who loved to share.

After sharing the dried fish, Bai Li had Uncle Xie hang the dried fish around her neck again.

"Meow."

Sir, I'm going out to work.

Bai Li also said goodbye to Xie Chen this time. Xie Chen stroked Bai Li's hair casually with his long, beautiful fingers. After hearing the reason why he was going out, he paused and then said "hmm".

"Go."

He didn't ask Bai Li if she would come back. Anyway, the little kitten walked back every night. If he saw it, he would just pick it up and take it home.

Bai Li brought a delicious and nutritious breakfast and, instead of rushing back to the hospital, placed the dried fish under the overpass.

They haven't finished their dried fish yet; they want to finish those before eating these.

The kitten, who had been a stray for over a month, now knows how to live frugally.

It's a little past eight o'clock.

Bai Li arrived at the hospital on time to see Dian Dian and the others, and Dr. Qiu He was as gentle as ever.

"Lili, all they need to do now is give them the medicine, and that will be cheaper."

Dr. Qiu He squatted down in front of him and patiently explained the situation of Diandian and Dahui to him.

Bai Li meowed, indicating that she was listening attentively.

Qiu He explained the upcoming treatment plan to Bai Li in detail, and only after receiving Bai Li's approval did she get up.

The pedestrians outside were in a hurry, and Bai Li took Mei Mei to mop the floor in front of the grocery store.

After dragging it out, Bai Li sat on the ground and rubbed her face with her paw.

"Meimei, we need to find new jobs."

Now that the grocery store owner is gone, he's an unemployed kitten.

Meimei now has cat food to eat and a place to live, so she feels very secure.

He comforted his older brother, saying, "Brother, we can find jobs slowly, there's no rush!"

Bai Li Miaomiao: "Meimei, cats need to be aware of potential problems. It's getting cold, and it will be very cold under the overpass."

They need to stock up on warm clothing.

Meimei was lectured by her older brother and obediently followed him to find a new job.

However, it seems that all the good luck has been used up.

Bai Li's cat hypnosis technique was completely useless today, and they hadn't found new jobs either.

After seeing Dot and Big Gray, the two unemployed kittens returned dejectedly to the underpass.

"Meow."

Meimei patted Bai Li: "Big brother, let's split up."

"You go look for a job tomorrow, I'll go rummage through the trash."

Many of the trash that humans throw away can actually be reused.

For example, they can pick up old blankets that humans don't want and use them as bedding.

Bai Li nodded: "Meow."

Okay, let's split up.

Since she wasn't working, Bai Li didn't stay out outside for long at night.

This is the third night that Xie Chen has not found the kitten that finished its work on his way home.

A flash of malice crossed his eyes, but it seemed like a mere illusion.

certainly.

Xie Chen thought he hadn't seen the chubby little kitten for three days, but the kitten itself didn't seem to notice at all.

Every night, a little kitten would huff and puff as it struggled to climb out of Xie Chen's room.

Time passed little by little.

Dian Dian and Da Hui finally recovered, and Dr. Qiu He even gave them free deworming treatment when they were discharged from the hospital.

"Meow."

Goodbye, Dr. Qiu.

On the day of her discharge, Bai Li led her three cats behind her and bowed to Dr. Qiu He in unison.

Qiu He couldn't resist taking a picture of the lead kitten and using it as her screensaver.

After leaving the hospital, Bai Li remained unemployed for a few more days. His savings were now only going out, with no money coming in.

Fortunately, after spending some more money, Bai Li found a new job.

My new job is at a private kiln, where I take paw prints on the things they make.

It's paid by the day, fifty yuan per day.

The working hours at the brickyard were long. Bai Li spent all day there, and even climbing out the window at night was exhausting.

late at night.

Bai Li dragged his tired body back to the foot of the overpass. He hadn't let Mei Mei and the others go to this job. The environment at the brickyard was bad. He was a little monster, so it didn't affect him much, but Mei Mei and the others were just kittens, and it wouldn't be good for them to stay in that kind of environment for too long.

When Dian Dian and Da Hui saw him return, they rubbed their eyes and climbed out of the cardboard box to greet him.

"Meow."

Big brother.

Bai Li patted each of their heads and said, "You can go back to sleep."

Dian Dian wasn't asleep. He looked behind Bai Li, a little puzzled: "Meow?"

Brother, why didn't Meimei come back with you?

Bai Li was stunned.

"Meow, meow meow."

Meimei didn't come out with me.

Dian Dian was also confused. He shook his head and confirmed, "Mei Mei found a wallet on the roadside today. There were a lot of things in the wallet, and she didn't know what to do, so she came to you."

Moreover, they set off for the kiln in the afternoon.

Upon hearing this news, Bai Li, the cat, was completely devastated.

A long time has passed since this afternoon. Meimei knows the way, so she should have found him long ago. If she hadn't found him and wanted to come back, she should have gone back to the overpass by now.

Meimei wouldn't be running around outside on purpose and not coming back.

Realizing this possibility, Bai Li's exhaustion vanished. He called Diandian and Dahui, and all three cats went outside to look for Meimei.

at the same time.

Xie Chen, who had been climbed through the window countless times by a certain kitten, stood at the window, looking at the white fur falling from above, his eyes filled with turbulent emotions.

Besides the window, he's also noticed some fur on his pillow and sheets these past few days.

His room was always clean, and he hadn't brought the kitten back for several days. How could there be any white fur falling out out of nowhere?

Could it be...?

Xie Chen suppressed his suspicions and decided to wait and see tonight.

After several nights of peaceful sleep, fluffy hairs were scattered on the window and bed. Could these things be connected?

Xie Chen was a deep thinker. When he noticed something was wrong, he didn't think about the possibility that his symptoms might be relieved in the future.

Instead, he wondered what the other party was after about this strange behavior.

While Xie Chen was writing music in the room and looking out the window, Bai Li, who was supposed to climb out the window, didn't have time to come.

"Meow."

Brother, it's so cold.

The weather is about to change, and the temperature is low at night. Bai Li shivered and continued walking.

"We'll go back once we find Meimei."

Bai Li reassured Dian Dian and Da Hui behind her, "Mei Mei is definitely waiting for us too."

Encouraged by Bai Li, they shouted Mei Mei's name repeatedly.

The night was desolate.

The urgent meowing broke the silence, and even after the meowing stopped, Bai Li still couldn't find Mei Mei.

There seemed to be the low growling of stray dogs not far away. Dian Dian and Da Hui's fur stood on end. They were clearly terrified, but they still insisted that their older brother follow behind them.
