Chapter 5

When Bai Li meowed, she was quite clever, knowing to stand in front of the man getting off the car.

Bai Li recognized the man who helped stop the person who hit the cat; he was the handsome gentleman in the car yesterday.

He tugged at the man's trouser leg with his paws, and, taking advantage of the man's familiarity, threatened the office worker fiercely: "Meow, meow!"

Everything was broken, they need to pay me back.

To make it easier to claim compensation, Bai Li even used cat hypnosis on the office worker who bumped into the cat, so that the other party could temporarily understand what he was saying.

This hypnosis technique is only effective on ordinary humans, and the target must be someone chosen by Bai Li.

Under hypnosis, office workers can not only understand Bai Li's meows, but also feel no confusion.

He retorted, "Don't try to extort money from me. There's nothing on your cart, nothing's broken, so I'm not going to pay you."

Bai Li cried out angrily, "Meow!!"

You have to pay compensation!

He saw that some beverage bottles were broken; the boss definitely wouldn't accept goods like that.

While the man and the cat were talking, no one noticed that the man being pulled by Bai Li's paws suddenly contracted his pupils after hearing the kitten's meows. A storm seemed to surge in his eyes, but it was quickly suppressed.

He could understand those meowing sounds.

To outsiders, Miao Miao's voice still sounded like a baby's, but to him, it was a clear, youthful voice.

The boy's voice was angry and aggrieved: "I'm only making five yuan for a whole cart of stuff, but the drinks you broke cost a lot more. If you don't pay me back, the boss will make me pay for them."

He can't afford to pay it back.

He's only earned twenty yuan so far today.

Amidst the bickering of office workers, Bai Li's meows were almost hoarse.

He clenched his little paws, his amber eyes were wet, and he looked pitiful as he tried hard not to cry.

Xie Chen lowered his eyes and looked at the kitten's wet eyes. For some reason, his heart softened.

"There are surveillance cameras here."

Amidst the kitten's almost tearful meows, Xie Chen spoke calmly: "If you want to shirk responsibility, I don't mind sending the police."

Although Xie Chen had a handsome face, he was imposing and his aura was incredibly oppressive.

The working class saw him standing up for the kitten, and then looked at the other party's attire; they knew things weren't going to end well.

"You're so rich, why don't you take this kitten home and raise it yourself? Why do you have to try and squeeze some money out of me?" the worker grumbled discontentedly.

Xie Chen glanced at him coldly, and the next second, the other person shuddered and immediately fell silent.

"Give."

The migrant worker took out his wallet from his pocket and pulled out a few hundred-yuan bills.

"Three hundred yuan."

He handed the money to the kitten, his tone a little hesitant: "You look perfectly fine, nothing's wrong with you, so you probably don't need to get checked out."

"I'll leave this money here as compensation for your losses."

I heard from a friend that taking a cat for an X-ray checkup costs at least 500 yuan. If the X-ray reveals a problem, the subsequent treatment for the cat will be more expensive than treating a person.

The working class plans to buy out the job for 300 yuan.

Bai Li had never seen so much money before, and his eyes widened in astonishment.

"Meow."

It's three hundred yuan.

Sensing the kitten's contented meows, Xie Chen narrowed his cold eyes slightly, squatted down, and pinched the kitten's nape.

It's quite soft.

No wonder it's so round and plump; it has lots of fur and plenty of flesh.

"three hundred?"

A hint of sarcasm flashed in Xie Chen's eyes: "Compensation for the goods, plus the inspection for hitting the cat, and you're going to give him three hundred to get rid of him?"

Working class: "..."

The working class received an additional two hundred.

Bai Li glanced at the electric scooter of the migrant worker, then at the five hundred yuan, and softly said, "Five hundred is enough, no need to give any more."

They're all just working people; this money is enough for him to pay for the damages. As for the checkup, he doesn't plan to go; he wants to take Dian Dian and Da Hui to see a doctor.

Seeing that the kitten didn't want any more, Xie Chen let the workers leave.

After the migrant workers rode away on their electric scooters, Bai Li looked up at Xie Chen with her round face full of admiration.

"Meow, meow meow."

Thank you, you're so kind.

As Xie Chen listened to that pleasant young voice, he couldn't help but rub the fingers that were pinching the back of Xie Chen's neck.

Bai Li wasn't resisting at all when someone grabbed her.

When he was on the mountain, his older brothers and sisters often petted his fur.

He knew that this was because she liked him, which was why she touched his fur.

The gentleman must like him.

Xie Chen stared at the round little kitten, thinking about the messages the housekeeper had sent on WeChat earlier.

"Would you like to come home with me?"

Xie Chen asked the little kitten staring at his face in a low voice.

"Meow."

don't want.

Bai Li refused without even thinking; he wouldn't do house cat making for someone.

He had to wait for his older siblings to come looking for him, he had to work to support his younger brother, and he also had to—

Oh dear, I also need to find a stick figure fiancé!

I almost forgot about this again.

Bai Li rubbed her head with a lingering fear, deciding to look at her fiancé's portrait several more times when she got back.

Xie Chen raised an eyebrow, not expecting him to refuse.

But the kitten wasn't willing, and he couldn't possibly take real action against such a tiny kitten and force it to go back.

Wouldn't that make me a cat thief?

"OK."

Xie Chen pinched his chubby little body one last time and stood up.

He stood up but didn't leave immediately. Instead, he took a few steps forward and repacked all the goods that had been scattered on the ground.

After finishing, they put the rope back on the kitten's vest.

Bai Li was moved to tears: "Meow meow."

You are such a kind person.

Xie Chen, who rarely received a "good guy" card, curled up the corners of his lips and, like a good person, stuffed the money he had just received into the pocket hanging around his neck.

And, while the kitten wasn't looking, I added a little extra for him.

Such clear eyes, and that soft "good guy" card, made Xie Chen, for the first time ever, actually act as a good guy.

"Let's go."

After he finished his good deed, he let the kitten continue working for him.

Meimei, who had been standing nearby, asked Bai Li with some concern, "Big brother, did you hurt yourself in the fall? How about I take care of you while you rest?"

The meows were beautiful, but Xie Chen couldn't understand them.

But he heard Bai Li's meow clearly.

"I'm not in pain," the kitten comforted its companion. "Let's keep pooping. After we're done, we'll take Dian Dian and Da Hui to the vet tonight."

"Um!"

The two kittens discussed it and then started pulling the stroller with all their might.

Xie Chen watched the kitten pulling the cart run away, then stood there for a long while.

It wasn't until the driver reluctantly got out and reminded him, "Sir, you have a meeting at the company at ten o'clock," that he finally understood.

Xie Chen didn't reply to him.

After a while, when the kitten was almost out of sight, Xie Chen turned around and got into the car.

"After you drop me off at the company, go find that little kitten from earlier."

The driver was taken aback: "Are you going to carry him home?"

"No."

Xie Chen lowered his head and opened WeChat without even lifting his eyelids: "Follow him and write down his whereabouts."

"OK."
