Chapter 281 Mao Mao sets off for the cave
Once you find the cave, you can embark on an adventure.
Two days later, on a sunny day, Mao Mao once again shouldered her small satchel, fully armed.
Xia Xiaoxiang filled her water bottle with water, filled her small handbag with snacks, and after thinking for a moment, she rummaged through her drawers and found a whistle, which she then hung around her neck.
Mao Mao curiously bit the whistle, took a deep breath, and exhaled forcefully, blowing out a crisp whistle sound.
The whistle rang out, sounding like a harmonica, and she quickly found it enjoyable, playing it with great enthusiasm.
"If you get lost, don't wander off. Just stand still and whistle this whistle as loudly as possible, understand?" Xia Xiaoxiang instructed. "When they hear the sound, everyone will come looking for you."
Mao Mao kept nodding her little head, saying, "Mmm."
Mao Mao asked, "Mother, are you really not going?"
Xia Xiaoxiang was speechless: "I have a house and a bed, I'm not going to sleep in some lousy cave with you."
I don't know what's so great about the cave that makes Mao Mao so obsessed with it. Ever since she found the cave a few days ago, she's been thinking about going there every day and even dreams about sleeping in it.
Mao Mao said regretfully, "Then, then Mom will wait for me at home. I'll bring you something delicious when I come back."
"Okay, okay."
Xia Xiaoxiang saw her to the door.
It wasn't just Mao Mao who was going to stay in the cave; all the men in the Lou family came out today.
Not only does she have three older brothers, but even Lou Dashuai has turned down his work to sleep in a cave with Mao Mao.
Right now, they were also waiting at the door, fully armed.
Because they were going to stay overnight, they not only wore clothes that allowed them to move around easily, but also brought food and supplies, and a tent. Everyone's backpack was full.
Like Xia Xiaoxiang, the wives did not participate in their activities.
They would rather sleep on the hard ground in the wild than have a comfortable bed.
Grandma Lou held her cat, stroking the long fur on the big white cat's back with her hand, and looked at the four men in the house, especially her son.
They're so old, yet they're as excited as four-year-old Mao Mao. It's incredibly childish, I can't bear to watch.
She said to her granddaughter, "Mao Mao, one night outside is enough. There are bugs in the mountains, and it's not easy to sleep in the wild. Come back early when you've had enough fun."
Big white cat: "Meow~"
Mao Mao obediently replied, "Okay, Grandma."
The big white cat isn't going with them on this adventure; it'll stay home with the old lady.
Mao Mao waved to Maomao: "Maomao, wait for me at home too."
Big white cat: "Meow~~"
Madam Lou then looked at the others: "And you all, remember to take good care of Mao Mao. The conditions outside are not good, don't let her suffer."
"Don't worry, Grandma," Lou Hongjian said confidently. "With me here, you can rest assured. I'll keep an eye on things. Not only will Mao Mao suffer, but she won't even fall down."
Old Madam Lou: "..."
Lou Fengju chimed in, "Grandma, I will take good care of Mao Mao."
Madam Lou nodded: "Yes."
Lou Hongjian watched with a smile, but suddenly felt something was wrong. He turned to his younger brother and asked, "A-Sui, did Grandma deliberately ignore me just now?"
Lou Yansui: "Third brother, you know it yourself, there's no need to say it out loud."
Lou Hongjian: "..."
Lou Dashuai bent down and picked up his youngest daughter, letting her sit on his shoulders: "Come on, Mao Mao, let's go!"
Mao Mao, holding her father's head, excitedly waved her little hand: "Let's go!"
After saying that, she remembered something, quickly grabbed the whistle hanging around her neck, took a deep breath, puffed out her cheeks, and blew hard: "—"
It's like a clarion call to action.
Amidst the crisp sound of whistles, the group set off together, heading up the mountain.
"————"
The whistles continued to sound until the group reached the yellow villa, at which point the whistles stopped.
Mao Mao grabbed her father's hand on the brake and shouted loudly into the house, "Sophie—Sophie—"
Mao Mao is here to take you to play!
Inside the house.
Hearing Mao Mao's shout, Sophie's eyes lit up and she immediately perked up.
But instead of running out immediately, she glanced at Miss Bailey beside her.
Bailey's lips were pressed tightly together, and his already serious expression became even colder after hearing the childish voice coming from outside.
“Miss Bailey,” Sophie whispered, “I should go out.”
Miss Bailey looked at her sternly: "Sophie, today was supposed to be your music lesson."
“But I already made a promise with Mao Mao,” Sophie said, mustering her courage. “Dad agreed too.”
Miss Bailey: "Yes, Mr. Langdon has given you permission to go out, and I won't stop you. But, Sophie, you clearly haven't heeded my advice."
"..."
Sophie lowered her head and looked at the tips of her shoes.
“I’m sorry, Miss Bailey,” she said softly.
Miss Bailey's face hardened: "Mr. Langdon has spoiled you too much. You should have had better friends, Sophie. If you want to make friends, I can throw you a banquet. The guests will certainly be nobles comparable to the Langdon family."
Sophie kept her head down in silence, her pale golden hair dull and lifeless.
“But…” she stammered, “…I think Mao Mao is very good too.”
Miss Bailey looked at her sternly.
That gaze made her unable to lift her head, afraid to meet Miss Bailey's eyes, and afraid to say anything in rebuttal.
"Ding-dong, ding-dong."
Mao Mao, waiting outside the door for someone to arrive, rang the doorbell.
She pressed her face against the door, calling out to her friend through the crack: "Sophie? Sophie?"
A baby's voice chattered in through the crack in the door: "Sophie, are you home? I've come to pick you up."
"Ding-dong! Ding-dong!"
Sophie was eager to open the door, but it felt as if roots had grown from her feet and were connected to the ground.
Mr. Langdon upstairs was called down by the doorbell: "Sophie, what are you waiting for? We should get going."
Sophie looked up in surprise: "Okay, I'll be right there... Daddy?!"
Sophie stared wide-eyed in surprise at Mr. Langdon as he came down the stairs.
Mr. Langdon was also dressed in a new outfit, wearing a loose vest, boots, and carrying a large bag, looking like an adventurer.
Sophie: "Daddy?!"
Miss Bailey exclaimed in surprise, "Mr. Langdon?!"
"Sophie, I'll go with you."
Mr. Langdon opened the door first, and there stood his daughter's little friend standing outside, with four tall men behind him.
Seeing that Lou Dashuai was also among the crowd behind Mao Mao, he felt even more certain that his choice was correct.
How could he leave his little angel all alone, watching other children play with their fathers? That would be so pitiful!
Mr. Langdon beckoned to his daughter, "Sophie, come here quickly."
Sophie ran over blankly and took her father's big hand.
She was still a little incredulous: "Daddy, you're coming with me?"
“Of course!” Mr. Langdon patted the bag behind him. “I’m ready for an adventure, honey.”
Miss Bailey rushed out anxiously: "Mr. Langdon, you still have work to do, and many other things to attend to..."
Mr. Langdon waved his hand: "Those things aren't urgent. Right now, playing with Sophie is my most important thing. Miss Bailey, we won't be back until tomorrow, so please look after the house."
Miss Bailey pursed her lips tightly.
"Alright!" Mao Mao cheered, "Let's go!"
She climbed up the stairs onto the commander's back, sat on his shoulders, and happily twirled her little feet, blowing her whistle: "—"
Lou Dashuai held her little feet and said, "Mao Mao, sit tight, Daddy's about to sprint!"
"~"
The crisp whistle, accompanied by Lou Dashuai's quickened pace, quickly carried into the distance.
Lou Fengju and the others chased after them helplessly: "Dad, Mao Mao, wait for us!"
Sophie tried to chase after them, but as soon as she lifted her foot, she felt her foot suddenly slip and she was picked up.
Mr. Langdon, imitating General Lou, placed his daughter on his shoulders.
He laughed heartily: "Sophie, let's go after them!"
