Chapter 94 I Want to Be Friends with Miss Lou

Chapter 94 I Want to Be Friends with Miss Lou

Mao Mao certainly hadn't forgotten.

While at the hospital, she made a pinky promise with the kind uncle that she would play the harmonica for him.

However, the kind uncle left the hospital the day after they made the appointment. Mao Mao never saw him again.

She's still a three-year-old toddler, can't go out on her own, and we haven't made any plans or had any chance to meet, so we have to put it off.

Now, reminded by Nie Zhengyun, she immediately remembered this matter.

"I haven't forgotten!" Mao Mao sat up straight with a start, raised her little head, and said very loudly, "Mao Mao remembers!"

Mother said that lying will turn you into a puppy, and Mao Mao won't be a puppy!

Nie Zhengyun's smile deepened: "Oh, Miss Lou still remembers, that's wonderful."

He glanced at the people surrounding the little girl.

Whether it was the Lou brothers or the wives behind them, they all looked at him with some wariness.

Of course, it's inevitable that a three-year-old daughter would be suspected of having ulterior motives if she were to befriend a man who is old enough to be her father.

Nie Zhengyun didn't say much.

He held a piece of paper between his fingers and handed it to Mao Mao.

Mao Mao took it, looked at the black words on it, and then looked up blankly.

She is illiterate.

But the group of people behind him could immediately tell that it was a business card with an address written on it.

“I would like to be friends with Miss Lou and invite her to my home.” Nie Zhengyun looked up at the parents behind Mao Mao and said, “If Miss Lou would be so kind as to accept my invitation, I will prepare a feast at home and look forward to your presence.”

Mao Mao stared blankly: "A feast?"

"Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Nie." Lou Hongjian quickly replied, "But my sister is young and rarely goes out. Mr. Nie is a busy man, so I won't bother you any longer."

Nie Zhengyun generously said, "If you're worried, Third Young Master, you can come with Miss Lou. I don't mean anything by it; I just think Miss Lou is lovely and want to be friends with her."

"..."

Nie Zhengyun put on his hat, looked down at Mao Mao and smiled: "Miss Lou, I'll be waiting for you to fulfill our promise."

Mao Mao blinked: "Oh."

As they watched his figure disappear into the theater entrance, countless eyes fell on Mao Mao.

No one doubts how lovable this little girl is.

Everyone present understood this deeply, and no one felt that there was anything wrong with someone wanting to be friends with Mao Mao.

However, Nie Zhengyun is the top leader of the Green Gang, holding a high position, and many people want to curry favor with him. It seems strange that he would suddenly lower himself to befriend a three-year-old child.

This isn't child's play; don't rush to act as someone's father.

What would be his purpose in wanting to be friends with a three-year-old child?

The second concubine guessed, "Could it be that they're going to target Mao Mao?"

The first wife shook her head: "If he wanted to harm our children, there would be no need for him to be so roundabout. The Green Gang operates in Haicheng and usually has to give face to the Marshal. He wouldn't go against the Marshal if we have no grudges against him."

Besides, Nie Zhengyun had also helped save Mao Mao last time.

If he had a grudge, he could have simply ignored it and watched coldly as Mao Mao was taken away by the kidnappers, instead of offering to help.

If it's to please...

"If he needs something from Dad, wouldn't it be easier to just ask Dad directly?" Lou Hongjian said. "At the very least, there's my eldest brother, and Ah Sui and I are here too. Why should we look for Mao Mao?"

The group looked at each other in bewilderment.

"Mao Mao?" Lou Yansui asked, looking down, "Do you know why Mr. Nie invited you to his home?"

Mao Mao raised her chubby chin and said confidently, "Because I'm friends with my uncle!"

Everyone: "..."

The third concubine nudged Xia Xiaoxiang: "Do you know?"

Xia Xiaoxiang hesitated for a moment, then said tentatively, "Maybe... it really is just about being friends?"

The third concubine rolled her eyes at her: "You actually believe that? And you're supposed to be Mao Mao's mother."

Xia Xiaoxiang thought to herself: ...But he's still playing with Mao Mao's frog!

Despite having no evidence, she inexplicably felt that the tin frog must have been given to Mr. Nie by Mao Mao.

Although this possibility is too far-fetched, Xia Xiaoxiang's guess is not unfounded.

Xia Xiaoxiang felt that Mr. Nie's gaze towards Mao Mao looked somewhat familiar.

It was especially like when Commander Lou hid at her house and looked at Mao Mao. Back then, even though Commander Lou was injured, he still held her daughter tightly and wouldn't let go, even when his injuries were pressed against him, he still smiled.

Not long after, Mao Mao became the daughter of Commander Lou.

Xia Xiaoxiang patted her chest, still shaken, and dared not voice her guess.

Mao Mao already has four older brothers and five mothers, so she really doesn't need another father.

The group left the theater.

Lou Hongjian asked his younger sister, "Mao Mao, where do you want to go next?"

Mao Mao scratched his head and turned to look for his mother.

Yesterday, my mother said she wanted to see a play, but she didn't say anything else.

Everyone followed her gaze.

Xia Xiaoxiang: "..."

When the time that was just the two of them, mother and daughter, turned into a family outing, she had long since given up on those plans.

Xia Xiaoxiang said, "I'll listen to Mao Mao."

Mao Mao thought for a moment and said, "Mao Mao wants a cake."

"Okay." Lou Hongjian picked her up in his arms: "Brother will take you to buy a cream cake."

Today's exercise had reached Lou Yansui's limit, and seeing that he looked tired, the First Madam accompanied him home. The Third Madam, however, didn't want to eat, so she said, "I'm going to the department store, do you want to come?" She asked Xia Xiaoxiang.

Xia Xiaoxiang glanced at her daughter, who had already been carried away by the Third Young Master. Mao Mao was perched on her brother's shoulder, still waving her little hand happily at her mother.

She raised her hand helplessly and waved, replying, "Okay."

"I'm going to buy some yarn," Xia Xiaoxiang said. "It's getting cold, so I'll knit some sweaters for Mao Mao."

The third concubine exclaimed in surprise, "You made it yourself? Clothing companies sell them!"

Xia Xiaoxiang raised her chin and said proudly, "Mao Mao likes clothes with little flowers on them, but they're not sold in department stores."

...

There were bakeries run by foreigners in the French Concession, with their windows filled with tempting breads and cakes.

Mao Mao pressed her face against the bakery window, dazzled by the sights, her chubby little face squeezing out of shape against the glass.

Lou Hongjian looked down and asked her, "Which one do you want? Black Forest cake? Or mousse cake?"

Mao Mao looked at each cake, then shook her head and made a big circle with her little hand: "I don't want these, I want this one."

"So big?" Lou Hongjian chuckled. "Can you finish it?"

"I want this kind."

"Okay, okay."

Lou Hongjian took out his wallet and readily agreed.

This cake is so big that it has to be baked fresh. While the pastry chef was busy, he took his sister for a stroll nearby.

When he returned, he was carrying large bags and packages, and the large, freshly made cream cake was packed into a square box.

Mao Mao tried her best to open her little arms and pick her up, but the cake box covered her upper body, making it look like the box had two short legs.

She staggered toward the door, her view blocked, until Lou Hongjian pulled her back to prevent her from crashing into the wall.

A sweet aroma wafted from the cracks in the box, following them wherever they went.

Lou Hongjian asked curiously, "Aren't you going to eat?"

"Mao Mao wants to go home to eat."

That's quite surprising.

When delicious food is placed in front of Mao Mao, how can Mao Mao resist it?

Lou Hongjian reached out and touched her little belly, which was round and bulging.

Yeah, no wonder.

I just had a full meal at the theater.
