Chapter 39 Whatever Mao Mao says goes
The big white cat's breakfast was a large piece of chicken breast.
Mao Mao sat on a small stool and helped it tear a large piece of chicken breast into small pieces. The big white cat was extremely hungry and squatted by the bowl, its long, fluffy tail sweeping against her calves, meowing impatiently.
A small piece of meat was dropped into the bowl, and the big white cat immediately licked it into its mouth: "Meow~"
Meow! More!
Mao Mao tore at it with great effort, working hard to tear it apart.
While picking vegetables, the maid in the kitchen gossiped, "The old lady specifically requested bread, bacon, and fried eggs this morning, saying she wanted to try a Western-style breakfast."
"Really? Are you sure it's the old lady?"
"Not only that, she also specifically asked for a pot of coffee!"
"Is it really the old lady? Isn't the old lady the one who hates these things that came from foreigners the most?"
"I was the one who brought the coffee up. The old lady just told me to put it down, and she didn't say a word else!"
The other maids couldn't believe it and booed.
Everyone knows that in this family, the old lady is the most old-fashioned and conservative. She doesn't even touch coffee, let alone those sweet little cakes.
Do you believe the old lady drinks coffee?
It's better to believe that Third Young Master plans to clock in for work tomorrow!
Hearing that it was about Grandma, Mao Mao also pricked up her little ears and eavesdropped on the maids' conversation.
She listened intently, her hands pausing involuntarily. The big white cat, seeing the meat so close yet unable to reach its mouth, was extremely anxious.
Meow~~~
The big white cat placed its two furry paws on her knees, meowing.
Mao Mao snapped out of her daze, "I'm sorry, Kitty!"
She quickly continued tearing the meat.
After feeding the big white cat, Mao Mao led it up to the third floor.
She arrived at the door of Old Madam Lou and knocked loudly: "Grandma, Grandma."
The big white cat also straightened up and started scratching at the door, its claws making a scratching sound.
Disturbed by the two noises, Old Madam Lou quickly came over and opened the door. Two small figures skillfully squeezed through the crack in the door and climbed onto their designated seats.
Delicious snacks were already laid out on the small table, but today was a little different.
Mao Mao opened her eyes wide in surprise, looking at the teacup on the table.
A set of European bone china teaware, printed with floral patterns and edged with gold. This Western-style teaware would never appear in the old lady's room. Even more unbelievable was that the teacup contained a dark brown liquid that looked like Chinese medicine.
But Mao Mao knew that the medicine in the cup was definitely not bitter or unpleasant to drink.
Because her nose could already smell the aroma of coffee beans in the air!
This drink called coffee is Third Brother's favorite. He drinks a cup every morning to wake himself up. Mao Mao is very curious about this unfamiliar food and is eager to try it, but Third Brother never agrees.
Third Brother said that children shouldn't drink this.
Mao Mao couldn't taste it, so she remembered the aroma.
But now, she actually saw coffee in the old lady's room!
Noticing her gaze, Old Madam Lou shifted her posture uncomfortably and said in a stiff tone, "I told you foreigners have nothing good. This stuff tastes awful, even worse than medicine."
She only touched her lips to the ground before putting it down, not understanding why foreigners liked to make things difficult for themselves.
Old Madam Lou said with disdain, "How could Ah Hong and the others like these things? They went abroad to study, and now their mouths have become rotten."
Mao Mao's lips glistened, and she asked in her sweet, childlike voice, "Really? It doesn't taste good?"
Old Madam Lou: "What's so good about foreign food!"
"But cream cake, chocolate, cookies..." Mao Mao rattled off a string of names, making her own mouth water. She swallowed hard, her eyes sparkling as she said, "They're all delicious!"
Old Madam Lou snorted coldly, every wrinkle on her face hardening, but when she looked at Mao Mao, her lips moved but she didn't utter a single harsh word.
What do such a young child know?
Having lived to this age, Madam Lou has seen it all. Back when the emperor was still in power, foreign cannons blasted open the country's gates, and she witnessed far too many tragic events. In fact, her father died from opium addiction.
After her third grandson went abroad to study, he took the words of foreigners as gospel and talked about free spirits every day. In her opinion, some kind of devil in foreign mythology had poisoned his mind, which was why he had become so lazy and unambitious.
Old Madam Lou couldn't stand it.
Old Madam Lou sneered: "Foreigners' food is delicious, but our food is not?"
"It's delicious!" Mao Mao swallowed hard. "The snacks that Third Brother bought are delicious, and Grandma's snacks are delicious too. They're all delicious, and Mao Mao likes them all!"
Old Madam Lou: "Hmph, sweet talk!"
She then looked at the little girl in front of her.
Today, Mao Mao wore her old-style padded jacket and skirt again, instead of yesterday's princess dress.
Old Madam Lou put on a stern face again and said, "Since you think this dress is unattractive, why don't you continue wearing Western clothes?"
"hold head high?"
Mao Mao tilted her head, her little hand stroking the delicate embroidery on the hem of her skirt, the flower patterns so lifelike. "Grandma, this dress is pretty, Mao Mao likes pretty dresses."
Old Madam Lou glanced at her.
The little baby in front of me is only three years old, a chubby little bundle of milk, who can't even read, so how would he know what's good or bad?
However, she knew that the little child in front of her had a special skill.
The moment she stopped, she dodged a telescope that fell from the sky. She prevented Lou Fengju from leaving the house and then discovered hidden explosives inside the Yuexian Restaurant. She had also previously helped Lou Hongjian expose the swindler and helped Commander Lou escape pursuit.
When the explosives at the Dangyuexian Restaurant were discovered, Old Madam Lou couldn't utter a single bad word to the three-year-old child.
She was terrified. If she had stopped Mao Mao back then, wouldn't she have lost her most beloved grandson?!
Madam Lou was a traditionalist and superstitious woman.
She was a Buddhist and worshipped Guanyin. When things happened around her that defied common sense, Old Madam Lou couldn't help but overthink.
This little baby is so lucky! He's truly blessed by God. Maybe he's some celestial being reincarnated into this world!
It is an honor for the Lou family that the little fairy child is willing to come and bring them good fortune. If we do not accept him, then we are ungrateful.
If that's the case, does Mao Mao's liking to wear Western-style dresses and eat cake mean... that those things aren't actually that bad?
Old Madam Lou changed her sitting posture again, her wrinkles smoothing out and then wrinkling up again, looking extremely conflicted.
After a long while, she cleared her throat and awkwardly said, "Mao Mao."
"What?"
“Ah Hong likes Western paintings, and I even hit him last time.”
"Hmm!"
Do you think it's a good thing to let him paint Western paintings?
Mao Mao blinked: "Why not? Third Brother's drawing is so good!"
"Really? You really think it's good?"
"Really!" Mao Mao nodded confidently, "Third brother is a great painter! He's amazing!"
"..."
The room fell silent for a moment.
The big white cat jumped off the seat, its fur brushing against Mao Mao's hand. It meowed and pounced on the light and shadow on the floor that swayed with the curtains, its big tail bouncing behind it.
Mao Mao's attention was also drawn to it, and her gaze followed the light spots on the ground.
When the old lady mentioned when, she didn't hear clearly for a moment.
"Alright," Old Madam Lou made up her mind. "Since you say it's good, then we'll listen to you!"
Whatever Mao Mao says goes.
If Little Lucky Star says something is good, then it can't be too bad.
We'll do whatever Little Lucky Star says!
