Chapter 261 Summer Has Arrived
Lou Yansui kept his word, and his bookshelves were soon filled with many books.
He used to be only curious about mathematics, but now he's also interested in physics and chemistry. The high school textbooks are no longer enough for him to absorb knowledge, so he asked his older brother to find university textbooks and bought several original books from bookstores in the concession area.
When he opened those books, they were filled with dizzyingly unfamiliar words, far exceeding the knowledge points a high school student should have. Lou Hongjian opened one unintentionally, saw stars, and almost fainted, but he read it with great interest.
Because he was so engrossed, Maomao's story almost went on hiatus again.
Fortunately, he has enough drafts saved up, and with summer vacation approaching, he has plenty of free time to allocate it properly.
He is a high school student with a long vacation ahead of him, with summer vacation lasting nearly two months, from the end of June to the end of August.
Summer homework was a breeze for him. After getting perfect scores in every subject on the final exams, he spent a few days completing all the assigned summer homework and then immersed himself in the ocean of physics knowledge, forgetting to eat or sleep.
My older brother started his summer vacation, and so did Mao Mao, who no longer had to go to class with her mothers every day.
Summer vacation is a great opportunity for Lou Yansui to learn extracurricular activities, but it's a bit of a headache for Mao Mao.
Because it's so hot in the summer!
The sun was getting stronger and stronger, and even though she was standing in the shade under the eaves, her cheeks would soon turn red from the heat. In such hot weather, she couldn't even ride her bicycle anymore.
Mao Mao's little car was parked in the parking space, neglected by its owner for several days, and covered in a layer of dust.
Unfortunately, as the weather got hotter, when Mao Mao rode her bike as usual, the seat, which had been in the sun all morning, was so hot that her bottom was uncomfortable to sit on.
Even the big white cat no longer likes to play with her. It spends its days lying on the cold floor tiles to cool off, and no matter how much Mao Mao calls it, it no longer wants to jump onto the car seat.
With no other option, Mao Mao had to lie down on the ground with it.
Whenever the Lou family members were about to leave the house, they would find two round little balls lying on the floor tiles in the living room.
Summers in Haicheng are hot and humid. Even if you don't move, it feels like you're soaking in lukewarm water. Only by lying on the cool floor tiles, eating watermelon chilled in well water, and having a fan blowing on you can you feel much better.
The ladies, with the fans blowing on them and listening to the noisy cicadas chirping outside, were also irritable from the heat and couldn't even concentrate on their books.
"Why is it so hot this summer?" the third wife complained. "I haven't been to the salon in ages, I'm just too lazy to go out!"
The second concubine picked up a teacup from the coffee table, touched the rising steam to her lips, and then put it back down: "On such a hot day, the old lady went out to see a play. With so many people, wouldn't she get heatstroke?"
“It’s not hot in the theater,” the first wife said. “I heard that the theater owner spent a lot of money this year to install imported air conditioners. No matter how many people are in the theater, it’s as cool as springtime.”
The second concubine looked astonished: "An air conditioner, that's a really big expense!"
The third concubine looked at Xia Xiaoxiang beside her with a puzzled expression: "Why aren't you hot?"
Xia Xiaoxiang's expression remained unchanged: "It's alright."
In previous summers, she would either work in the fields or in a factory, crammed into a stuffy workshop with countless other workers, sitting there all day until her clothes were soaked with sweat. Unlike now, when she sits in a spacious room with a fan blowing.
Where's the fan?!
In all those years ago, when did we ever use such high-end goods?
Put a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan, and when the fan blows it, Xia Xiaoxiang thinks it's no worse than an air conditioner.
She reached out and touched the watermelon in the basin. The ice cubes in the basin had partially melted into water, and the watermelon rind was also refreshingly cold.
Xia Xiaoxiang brought out the watermelon and shouted, "Mao Mao, come and eat watermelon!"
"Here I am!"
A crisp, childlike voice suddenly came from somewhere in the room, followed by the sound of footsteps. A person and a cat happily ran in.
Xia Xiaoxiang was cutting a watermelon when Mao Mao stood at the bottom of the stairs, excitedly shouting, "Brother, we can eat watermelon now!"
A round, plump watermelon was cut open, its rind a vibrant green, its flesh a deep, glistening red. Mao Mao eagerly reached out her little hand, her eyes sparkling as she caught the watermelon and sat down on the steps by the door to eat it.
A sweet fragrance filled the air, and the big white cat pawed at her with its two paws, meowing sweetly.
"Kitty, wait a minute."
With her little hands, Mao Mao forcefully broke off a small piece of her watermelon, removed the red flesh, and carefully picked out the seeds one by one before placing the remaining flesh in front of the big white cat.
The big white cat ate with loud slurping, and Mao Mao also ate with gusto.
When Lou Hongjian drove home, he saw his younger brother and sister sitting on the steps at the door, each holding a slice of watermelon, spitting out seeds with their cheeks puffed out. Mao Mao even had watermelon juice all over her face.
Lou Hongjian went in and came out again: "A-Sui, make way for me."
Lou Yansui and Mao Mao shifted their positions to the side.
"It's so hot today, why doesn't it rain?" Lou Hongjian took a big bite of watermelon in frustration. "I've been out all day, why do I have to work in the summer? I'm going to put my gallery on summer vacation too!"
Lou Yansui swallowed the watermelon in her mouth: "Maybe you don't need to wear a suit when you go out in the summer."
Lou Hongjian immediately said, "How can that be? Wouldn't people think I'm too uncouth? An artist can be down on his luck, but he can never be unsophisticated. I've already asked the tailor to use the lightest fabric."
Lou Yansui: "..."
He squeezed a little closer to Mao Mao, and Mao Mao obediently moved her little bottom to the side.
Lou Hongjian finished eating the watermelon, but was still not cool enough. He asked, "I want to go swimming, Ah Sui, do you want to come?"
Lou Yansui: "I'm not going, I want to read."
Lou Hongjian was greatly disappointed: "Still watching? Physics is so interesting, do you want to watch it all summer? Can't you just play with me?"
Lou Yansui said sincerely, "I am more interesting than you."
Lou Hongjian: "..."
His eyes flashed with a fierce light as he pulled his younger brother into his arms and vigorously rubbed his head.
Lou Yansui struggled fiercely: "Let me go—let go—Mom!"
Mao Mao, standing next to her, looked up with bright eyes: "Swimming?"
Lou Hongjian paused, then overjoyed: "Mao Mao, are you going or not?"
Lou Yansui seized the opportunity to escape from his clutches, tidied her messy hair, and said, "Mao Mao is too young and can't swim yet. It's too dangerous for her to go into the water."
"Our Mao Mao is still a little landlubber," Lou Hongjian said with a grin. "It's so hot, even if we can't go into the water, playing in the water is still good."
"hold head high?"
evening.
Lou Fengju returned home.
He got out of the car and walked into the house. After taking only a few steps, he suddenly heard a voice from the side: "Big Brother!"
Lou Fengju subconsciously turned his head and saw his younger brother jump out from around the corner, holding a water gun.
He reacted immediately and dodged to the side, but Lou Hongjian had deliberately ambushed him and attacked before he even called out to him. No matter how fast he dodged, his hair was still soaked with water.
Lou Hongjian broke free in one strike, laughing heartily as he ran away.
Behind him, Mao Mao came running out with her short legs, happily following her brother, and then bumped headfirst into two long legs.
She stopped abruptly, looked up, and saw her older brother standing close by, looking down at her. His shadow was dark, he was tall, and exuded a strong sense of intimidation.
Maomao: "..."
Lou Fengju's hair was dripping wet, and he wasn't wearing a coat; his soaked shirt clung to his body, revealing the contours of his muscles. He stared at his sister in front of him, looking as if he was determined to catch the accomplices even if he couldn't catch the main culprit.
Mao Mao blinked, and her happy smile slowly faded.
She clutched her little ears, her voice gradually lowering, "Brother...it's raining."
