Chapter 369: So what if I was lucky?

Chapter 369: So what if I was lucky?

The child's innocent voice elicited countless exclamations of surprise.

The Lou family members listening nearby: "..."

Before the other children could continue asking questions like "Where can I find my dad?", the group quickly went over and interrupted the curious little ones.

Lou Yansui cleared her throat: "Where was I?"

Immediately, an enthusiastic little dumpling raised her hand to answer: "It's about Maomao going to see the doctor!"

Lou Yansui continued, "Yes, Maomao is sick and needs to go to the hospital to see a doctor, but..."

A new batch of pastries was also freshly baked in the kitchen, and the steaming aroma drew the attention of countless children.

Children's attention shifts very quickly. With good stories, delicious food, and so many fun toys around, they quickly forget about the "picking up dad" topic and immerse themselves in the joy of the party.

Not far away, Nie Zhengyun watched the commotion and took a sip of tea.

"So it turns out the General was found by Miss Mao Mao." He sighed, "The General is truly lucky."

The courtyard wasn't soundproof, and the little baby's voice from over there carried over on the wind.

As the ruler of the three provinces in East China, being described as being picked up by a little girl like a stray dog, Commander Lou felt no shame whatsoever. Instead, he laughed heartily: "That's right, I was picked up by Mao Mao. If I weren't lucky, how could I have such a lovely daughter like Mao Mao?"

He looked at Nie Zhengyun: "What did you just say?"

Nie Zhengyun: "I didn't say anything."

“…Fate, yes, it’s fate!” Commander Lou continued on his own: “Mao Mao and I are destined to be together! The moment I saw her, I knew she was a daughter sent to me by God. I asked Mao Mao if she would like to be my daughter, and guess what?”

Nie Zhengyun: "..."

Shen Zhaolin: "..."

Regardless of the two men's moods, Commander Lou exclaimed cheerfully, "That's right! That's exactly it! She agreed immediately! Haha!"

Lou Wenshan also picked up his teacup and took a big gulp of hot tea. The slightly hot tea flowed into his stomach, making him feel warm all over and very comforted.

I found it, so what?

Judging from their expressions, they're probably still jealous of him and wish they could be taken home by Mao Mao too!

The tea was good, but the other two people drank it without any enjoyment.

Looking at Lou Fengju playing with Mao Mao not far away, Nie Zhengyun remembered something: "Recently, the young marshal has been arresting people in Haicheng, causing quite a stir. Many of my men have come to complain. Has the young marshal caught the people he wanted to arrest?"

Mentioning this, Lou Dashuai's smugness faded somewhat. "We caught them."

"Who is it that caused such a commotion?" Nie Zhengyun said leisurely, "I heard that this matter also involves the general manager of HSBC."

Commander Lou's face darkened slightly, and he looked at him with hostility: "You've come to plead for me?"

"General, please don't misunderstand. I have nothing to do with this matter. It's all just hearsay." Nie Zhengyun raised his hands in a gesture of surrender and said amiably, "This matter happened in Haicheng. If the General needs it, I can offer my humble assistance."

"Ha, you're really that kind?"

"What am I in the General's eyes?"

Lou Dashuai silently took a sip of tea and did not respond.

He's certainly not a good person.

Shen Zhaolin, who was standing nearby, chimed in, "Speaking of which, someone came to me asking me to bail someone out."

The other two looked over coldly.

Shen Zhaolin looked puzzled: "If it weren't for my teacher working under the Marshal, I wouldn't have published fewer articles in newspapers recently. It doesn't mean I've made peace with the Marshal. Besides, my teacher is my teacher, and I have nothing to do with the Marshal. I'm just a teacher. What use would it be to come to me? That person really has no sense."

Commander Lou: "..."

Nie Zhengyun smiled and said, "Since he was able to find you, it means he's not from Haicheng."

Shen Zhaolin nodded: "Judging from his accent, he doesn't seem to be from the north."

"I don't care which side they're on, even if the Heavenly King himself comes, it won't help." Commander Lou's face was fierce: "Damn it, they're playing these underhanded tricks on me and even trying to frame my son. I'll skin them alive."

"Who did you say came looking for you?" he questioned Shen Zhaolin. "When did they arrive? Have they left yet? Where are they staying? They're all birds of a feather, none of them are good people. I'll kill them all!"

Shen Zhaolin shrugged: "I refused that day, and I don't know anything else. Maybe he went to find someone else."

Commander Lou immediately summoned his adjutant: "Has anyone come looking for me recently?"

The adjutant rattled off several names, all prominent figures frequently featured in the newspapers.

The adjutant said, "You said you wouldn't see any guests, and I've already used the excuse that it's inconvenient for you to refuse."

Lou Dashuai cursed in a rough voice.

Shen Zhaolin asked curiously, "Who did the commander arrest? Why such a large mobilization? What exactly happened?"

Nie Zhengyun remained calm: "I don't know either. I only know that after that person was arrested, he said something that no one could understand."

Shen Zhaolin was stunned for a moment, and his face turned ugly.

He roughly pieced together the whole story. Someone had used some unknown scheme to frame General Lou for his relationship with the HSBC general manager, involving several countries; the consequences would have been dire. Fortunately, it hadn't succeeded. But after the mastermind was caught, so many people pleaded for his life.

In this chaotic world, maintaining a semblance of stability is not easy; everything is precarious.

However, there were internal and external troubles. Not only were there wolves and tigers lurking outside, ready to bite off a piece of flesh at any time, but even their own people were not at peace, wanting to take flesh from their own kind.

A heavy, unspoken silence spread across the small area.

Compared to the lively party not far away, it was like two different worlds.

The three of them silently drank their tea, watching the innocent and joyful smiles on the faces of the children in the distance, like the sunshine on a clear day, without the slightest gloom.

"Dad! Uncle!"

In the distance, Mao Mao, with her short legs, ran towards the three of them, her little tuft of hair bobbing up and down.

"Why."

Commander Lou quickly stood up and caught his youngest daughter who rushed towards him: "Mao Mao, what's wrong?"

"Dad, we're playing hide-and-seek, can you come and catch us?" Mao Mao asked with bright eyes. "My brothers said they want to hide too."

Lou Dashuai immediately took off his coat and replied, "Okay, Dad will come and get you!"

Nie Zhengyun stood up leisurely, smoothing out the wrinkles in his robe: "Since it is Miss Mao Mao who invited me, then I, Nie, will accept the invitation."

Shen Zhaolin also took off his scarf: "Mao Mao, I won't go easy on you."

Mao Mao happily turned around and waved to her friends: "My dad agreed!"

The children burst into enthusiastic cheers, and the little bundles of joy scattered like birds, drifting in all directions and hiding in every corner.

Mao Mao couldn't wait to let go of Lou Dashuai and hurriedly went to find a hiding place. Her four older brothers ran towards her, vying to take her with them to hide.

After counting to thirty and everyone was hidden, the three adults rolled up their sleeves and went to catch people.

If we want children to always have innocent smiles on their faces, it depends on the efforts of the adults.
