Chapter 288 Turning it into a Tutoring Class
Mao Mao has made new friends and often goes to play with Sophie next door.
After visiting so many times, she no longer needed her mother to accompany her. Sophie's house was right next door, not far away. Xia Xiaoxiang would stand at the door, watching her little legs toddle over there, ring the doorbell in front of the yellow villa, or call out Sophie's name loudly. Before long, Miss Bailey would come to open the door for her and take her inside.
Sometimes, Sophie would come over to play. Mao Mao would share delicious food with her, and also share Mao Mao's stories.
Mao Mao made some good friends, but the most unhappy person in the family was the old lady's big white cat.
The cat and dog don't get along. Every time Mao Mao comes back from a friend's house, she smells like a puppy, and the big white cat hisses at her every time she sees her.
When Sophie came over, she would bring her big golden retriever. That really stirred up a hornet's nest. The big white cat howled and chased the golden retriever from inside the house to outside, making the white and golden fur fly wildly. It took Mao Mao and Sophie a lot of effort to pull the cat and dog apart.
However, they can't play together every day.
While Mao Mao is on summer vacation, Sophie still has to attend classes.
She had Miss Bailey as her governess, who arranged numerous courses for her, including etiquette, art, and literature—nothing was omitted. These were all foundational courses, and even Mr. Langdon did not object.
Miss Bailey no longer objects to Sophie and Mao Mao being friends, but she doesn't relax her demands on Sophie's studies. When Mao Mao goes to see Sophie, she often finds her in class.
After visiting many times, one evening, when Xia Xiaoxiang asked her what she had done that day, Mao Mao sat in the bathtub blowing bubbles and said innocently, "Aunt Bailey taught me to write!"
"Writing?!"
"Mmm." Mao Mao counted on her fingers, "The day before yesterday, she taught Mao Mao to draw and count. Last time, Aunt Baili taught me to dance."
Xia Xiaoxiang was terrified.
Isn't it summer vacation?!
I went to visit a friend, but it turned into a tutoring session!
Xia Xiaoxiang immediately felt a sense of crisis: "So how much have you learned?"
Mao Mao thought for a moment: "Mao Mao can count to one hundred now."
Xia Xiaoxiang: "!!!"
Miss Bailey truly lives up to her reputation as a graduate of a prestigious university, possessing a wealth of teaching experience. In such a short time, she has already transformed them into child prodigies.
Not to mention Mao Mao, Xia Xiaoxiang herself wanted to sign up.
The next afternoon, when she saw Mao Mao off, she asked the kitchen to make a large basket of snacks for Mao Mao to take with her as payment for the lessons.
Mao Mao struggled to carry the large basket: "Mother, I'm going out."
Xia Xiaoxiang reminded her, "Give the snacks to Teacher Bailey, and remember to thank her."
"Okay, I'll remember."
Xia Xiaoxiang stood at the door, watching her go.
With an extra big basket, Mao Mao's walking speed was slowed down considerably. She waddled like a little penguin, and the short distance between the two houses took several times longer than usual.
"Ding-dong ding-dong".
The doorbell rang again.
Miss Bailey opened the door, her gaze expertly sweeping downwards, and sure enough, she saw that overly friendly girl from next door again.
However, today she was also carrying a basket, and the sweet aroma of pastries wafted from under the cotton cloth. The basket was so large that it almost covered Mao Mao's upper body, making it look as if she had grown two short legs to walk over.
Mao Mao poked her fluffy little head out from behind the basket and greeted her warmly, "Auntie Bailey, I'm here again!"
Miss Bailey: "..."
Miss Bailey stepped aside: "Please come in, Sophie is waiting for you in the living room."
Mao Mao stood on tiptoe and raised the basket even higher, with a pretty bow tied on it: "Aunt Bailey, here you go. My mom said thank you for teaching me, this is a gift for you."
Miss Bailey hesitated for a moment before taking it.
The basket was heavy, filled with many snacks. The snacks were familiar; they were the same ones Mao Mao had brought when she first came to visit.
Miss Bailey placed it on a pretty plate, and then took a piece for herself to taste.
These pastries are traditional French pastries, which taste different from traditional French desserts, but have their own unique flavor.
Miss Bailey finished the whole pastry while enjoying a pot of black tea.
After afternoon tea, it was time for Sophie's class.
The clock struck twice, and the two little ones ran over hand in hand and sat down in a row in front of her.
Because Xia Xiaoxiang didn't come along, she didn't know that Mao Mao had her own desk at Landon's house, where she sat next to Sophie. She also had a beautiful set of stationery, a gift from Sophie.
When the afternoon classes began, Mao Mao diligently wrote large characters, but as she wrote, she gradually slumped down.
"Sit properly," Miss Bailey reminded her. "You must sit up straight and not slouch over the table."
Mao Mao quickly straightened her back, lowered her head, and pouted her chubby little face, writing each stroke very carefully.
After a while, Miss Bailey slowly walked around to her side, took her little hand, and corrected her writing habits stroke by stroke.
After finishing writing the large characters, Mao Mao and Su Fei lined up to hand in their homework.
I corrected Sophie's first, then I corrected Maomao's.
Miss Bailey carefully checked her homework, nodded in satisfaction, and put a big checkmark in red ink.
Miss Bailey has finished her class for today. With the rest of the time available, she can do other management work, and the two children can play freely.
Mao Mao and Sophie are having snacks together.
"Mao Mao, with you here, I feel so happy in class," Sophie said. "Thank you for accompanying me to class."
Mao Mao grabbed a pastry and put it in her mouth, her cheeks puffed out as she ate, saying, "Sophie, don't you like going to class?"
Sophie shook her head.
"Aunt Bailey's classes are great! My mom says she's made me smarter." Crumbs of pastry fell from Mao Mao's hand, and the big golden retriever came over to clean them up for her. Mao Mao asked, "Why don't you like it?"
Sophie asked, "Nobody likes going to school."
"My brother loves going to school!" Mao Mao proudly declared, raising her little head. "My brother is so smart! He always gets 100 on his tests and is number one!"
Sophie: "..."
Sophie asked, "Mao Mao, your summer vacation is almost over, are you going home?"
"hold head high?"
Mao Mao stared blankly as she ate her snack.
I haven't thought about that yet.
Their whole family is here for a vacation, only for a month. After that, Lou Yansui will start school, and Mao Mao will return to Haicheng. At that time, Mao Mao will have to say goodbye to her good friend whom she has only recently met.
A month is neither a long nor a short time.
If we're just going to be friends, then a month is way too short.
Mao Mao hurriedly said, "I'm not going home... Sophie, I'll stay here and keep playing with you."
Sophie blinked and whispered, "But my summer vacation is ending soon, and I have to go back to kindergarten."
Going to kindergarten?
What is a kindergarten?
Mao Mao hasn't been there!
