Chapter 197 Birthdays must include cake and new clothes
With the little goldfish, Mao Mao forgot all about other food and toys.
The glass fish tank filled with water was heavy, and she held it tightly with her two small hands, her eyes fixed on the goldfish swimming around inside.
I was so focused on what I was looking at that I didn’t even notice that I was about to turn, and I almost crashed into a wall.
Nie Zhengyun quickly grabbed the little girl who was walking forward with her head down, "Be careful."
"hold head high?"
Mao Mao raised her head and saw a bare wall in front of her.
"Watch where you're going." Nie Zhengyun looked at his empty palms and said, "Mao Mao, there are a lot of people here. You need to hold an adult's hand so you don't get lost."
Mao Mao nodded quickly: "Mao Mao understands."
But Mao Mao was holding the fish tank with both of her little hands, so if she went to hold her uncle's hand, she wouldn't be able to hold the goldfish.
She had just gotten a new pet and adored it. Standing there for a long time, she couldn't figure out how to add an extra hand.
Nie Zhengyun simply bent down and picked her up.
His hands were very steady. Mao Mao was suddenly picked up. The little goldfish in the fish tank swayed with the ripples, but not a single drop of water was splashed out.
“That will do,” Nie Zhengyun said with a smile. “This way, Miss Mao Mao can watch the goldfish without getting lost.”
Mao Mao's eyes sparkled: "Uncle, you're so smart!"
Lou Hongjian: !!!
Lou Hongjian was shocked to see this and quickly squeezed over: "Mr. Nie, don't trouble yourself, I'll take care of Mao Mao."
As he spoke, he reached out, intending to take Mao Mao away.
Nie Zhengyun subtly avoided his movements and walked straight ahead, saying, "Third Young Master, I won't bother you."
You're not a bother.
But I'll be the one in trouble later!
If Dad finds out that Mao Mao not only went out to play with Mr. Nie all day, but also let him hold his hand and hug him, Dad will skin him alive!
Lou Hongjian suddenly mustered boundless courage, took a long stride, and stood in front of the two people, one big and one small.
"Mr. Nie, please don't put me in a difficult position." Lou Hongjian said with a forced smile, "You know my father's temper. I received my mission before I left home, and I can't let Mao Mao get too close to you."
Nie Zhengyun sighed softly: "I think it's the Third Young Master who's in a difficult position. I'm just worried that Miss Mao Mao will get lost, that's all."
Lou Hongjian sneered: "Since that's the case, I'll take care of Mao Mao myself, so there's no need to trouble Mr. Nie."
"I don't find it troublesome."
"Mr. Nie..."
Mao Mao turned her little head left and right, watching the two argue, not even bothering to look at the little goldfish.
Seeing the two arguing, she quickly said, "Brother, here you can hug me!"
Lou Hongjian was overjoyed: "Mao Mao?"
Mao Mao reluctantly handed over the fish tank she was holding, her eyes glistening with tears: "Brother, you can hold the goldfish. Don't fight with your uncle."
Lou Hongjian: "..."
He didn't want to hug the goldfish!
But once he took the goldfish bowl, Nie Zhengyun had no reason to continue holding Mao Mao, so he could only put her down and hold her little hand.
Lou Hongjian thought for a moment: ...That's fine too.
Holding hands is always better than hugging and cuddling.
Nie Zhengyun held Mao Mao's little hand and slowed down his pace, walking slowly alongside the little girl beside him.
"Mao Mao, what else do you want next?"
Mao Mao thought for a moment: "Cake. Uncle, we have to eat a big cake for birthdays."
Those tall, multi-tiered cakes need to be ordered in advance; they can't be made on the day. Today's birthday party only has a few people, so a small cake is just right.
The cake shop staff brought over a catalog and let her choose a design. Fruit, cream, chocolate—the Western cake makers had a dazzling array of options, leaving Mao Mao overwhelmed with choices.
After much deliberation, Mao Mao chose a chocolate cake.
She held Nie Zhengyun's big hand and said happily, "Mao Mao's birthday cake is made of cream and fruit, but not chocolate, Uncle, so you can eat all of them!"
Nie Zhengyun smiled and said, "Miss Mao Mao is so thoughtful."
Besides eating cake, what else do you need for a birthday?
When it was Mao Mao's birthday, the ladies even took her to order a custom-made little dress.
Mao Mao then led her uncle to the clothing store next door.
Nie Zhengyun usually wore loose-fitting old-fashioned long gowns and frequented a tailor shop; he was never seen wearing shirts or Western suits. However, Mao Mao took him into a Western-style clothing store that only sold Western-style clothing.
Different styles of men's suits hung on the hangers. Nie Zhengyun's subordinates hesitated to look at their boss's expression, only to see that he was calm and looking down at the young girl next to him with gentle eyes.
"Could Miss Mao Mao please help me pick out an outfit?"
"Mao Mao pick?"
"If it was Miss Mao who chose it, I would definitely like it very much."
Mao Mao immediately pounced into the clothes rack.
Men's suits also have their own rules, with different styles and patterns for different occasions. But Mao Mao knew nothing about this and only chose those that caught her eye.
A moment later, she happily picked up a clothes hanger and ran back.
"Uncle, wear this!"
Nie Zhengyun readily accepted, took the clothes rack, and went into the dressing room.
Lou Hongjian squatted down next to his younger sister, his peach blossom eyes crinkling with laughter, and coaxed, "Mao Mao, help your brother pick out a set too, okay?"
Mao Mao asked in confusion, "But today isn't my brother's birthday."
Lou Hongjian: "...Can't I wear new clothes if it's not my birthday?"
Too!
Mao Mao then rushed into the clothes rack and picked out a suit for her brother as well.
Soon, the curtain in the changing room was pulled open.
Two men in suits came out.
Lou Hongjian is always seen wearing a suit, which is quite common, but Nie Zhengyun, who is wearing a suit for the first time, is refreshing.
A well-tailored suit, fitted to the body, can make a person appear capable and sophisticated. As the leader of the Green Gang, he was by no means a kind person. His usual loose and soft robes gave him a kind facade, but once they were removed, his unfathomable aura was revealed.
Nie Zhengyun awkwardly buttoned up his sleeves, his bent arms bulging with muscle, the thin fabric clinging to his muscular arms. Lou Hongjian glanced at him, and now had no doubt that he could truly rival Commander Lou.
Mao Mao tilted her little head up, completely mesmerized.
After changing his clothes, Uncle seems like a completely different person.
"Mao Mao." Nie Zhengyun walked up to her, spread his arms, spun around, and asked, looking down, "What do you think?"
Mao Mao's eyes sparkled: "Uncle is handsome!"
"Yeah?"
The clothing store owner also came forward and complimented, "Sir, this suit suits you perfectly! Your niece has excellent taste!"
Nie Zhengyun's gaze swept over: "Niece?"
The clothing store owner was taken aback: "Is it... or isn't it?"
He heard the little girl calling him "uncle" repeatedly, and this man, who looked like he was not to be trifled with, was also very obedient to the little girl. The two seemed so close that they couldn't possibly be an uncle and niece.
Nie Zhengyun glanced at his subordinates, who then went to pay the bill.
Nie Zhengyun tugged at the collar of his shirt, feeling a little uncomfortable. This ready-made suit wasn't tailor-made, nor was it made of fine silk; the collar was chafing. But Nie Zhengyun didn't say anything, and instead took the girl's hand and walked out.
This was the first time he had ever worn a suit out.
Although Western clothes are not as comfortable as traditional ones, he still enjoys them despite his careful selection.
"Miss Mao Mao, where to next?"
