Chapter 9 An'an is lost

Seeing the old man's long face, Aunt Chi immediately looked down on him, saying with disdain, "Stop it right now! As a father-in-law, why are you still arguing with your daughter-in-law?"

Old Man Chi's face was still contorted: "My perfectly healthy second son was ruined by that woman!"

Actually, among the Chi family's sons, Chi Erchuan is the one who is doing the best.

When his family was relatively well-off, Chi Erchuan attended school for three years. Although he didn't pass the imperial examinations for the lowest degree, he was still able to find a job.

He found a job as an accountant in town, earning twenty coins a day, which would amount to six hundred coins a month. It was an easy and effortless job.

What a great job!

So back then, before he got married, Chi Erchuan was considered the most beautiful girl in Dahe Village! So many young women wanted to marry him.

As it turned out, Chi Erchuan married the only daughter of the down-on-his-luck old scholar from the academy! That old scholar often drank, so he inevitably neglected his teaching duties, which led to several disturbances, and eventually he simply closed the academy.

The old scholar's only daughter was named Shi Hongxing, the same age as Chi Erchuan. She was incredibly beautiful, with a face that could shame the moon and flowers. Chi Erchuan loved her madly.

So after getting married, Shi Hongxing was unwilling to return to the village, so Chi Erchuan lived with her at the old scholar's house.

For several years, Chi Erchuan has doted on Shi Hongxing, not letting her cook, do laundry, or do anything else.

Aunt Chi even had a big argument with Shi Hongxing over this.

Of course, Aunt Chi felt sorry for her son. After a long day at work, he still had to do laundry and cook? What was the point of marrying a woman then? Just to be treated like a queen?

However, Chi Erchuan felt sorry for his wife, which inevitably led to conflicts with his family.

Aunt Chi was so angry that she cried for several days. Because of this, Uncle Chi disliked his daughter-in-law very much, and even had a problem with his son.

The two have been married for four or five years, haven't they? Except for Chinese New Year, Shi Hongxing has never visited the Chi family.

Most importantly, to this day, the two of them still don't have a child!

How could Old Man Chi not hate him?

Thinking back on these past events, Aunt Chi also harbored a lot of resentment, but no matter how much resentment she felt, it couldn't outweigh her heartache for her son.

"Alright, why are you still complaining about that? What can you do if Erchuan is happy? Now that Erchuan is back for Tangtang's full moon celebration, you're not allowed to scold him anymore," Aunt Chi instructed.

Erchuan came on the day Tangtang was born, but he went back that same day. As for Shi Hongxing, she didn't come at all!

So when Chi Erchuan left, he was given a good scolding by Old Man Chi.

How could he not be angry when his precious daughter was treated so lightly and disregarded?

But since my son is already married, there are some things that can't be forced.

Aunt Chi couldn't help but find it amusing to see the old man holding his daughter's little hand with a dark expression, looking like a stubborn mule unwilling to speak.

At the same time, it was also a little heartbreaking.

It was rare for Aunt Chi to show such a tender side. She reached out and touched the man's rough, cracked hand, and sighed, "I know you feel sorry for me. It's just that our son is grown up and we can't control him anymore. In the end, it will just be the two of us together. Our children and grandchildren will all have wings."

"Our Tangtang isn't getting married; she's looking for a son-in-law to live with her family!"

It's one thing for children and grandchildren to grow wings, but daughters can't grow wings!

When Old Man Chi thought about his daughter getting married and having to serve someone else more than ten years from now, his heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys all started to ache.

"Nonsense! How much money do you have to afford a live-in son-in-law?"

"I'm going to work in the fields right now to earn some more money!"

With that, Old Man Chi got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and left!

They're so energetic and impulsive that no one can stop them.

Aunt Chi felt helpless, but she smiled happily.

Still half asleep, Chi Tang had just woken up. Her heart was warm, and she felt determined to protect this family!

The next morning, Old Man Chi and Chi Dashan set off for the neighboring county. The family waited anxiously until it was dark before the father and son finally entered their home.

"How about it?"

"It's done! We found a brokerage firm to buy the land, and then asked them to lease it out. I also told them that the brokerage firm would help keep an eye on the land during the annual harvest. After paying taxes, we want 60% of the remaining harvest. The brokerage firm will then help us sell the land and get the money."

Although this inevitably involves paying the brokerage firm some service fees, they can't afford to travel to neighboring counties.

After all, during harvest time, they also have to busy themselves with their own land.

"That's good. Where's the land deed?"

"Here."

Aunt Chi looked at it carefully once, and then hid it.

I immediately felt at ease.

The days passed uneventfully, and Aunt Chi was about to finish her postpartum confinement, while Chi Tang was about to turn one month old.

The family discussed going to the town market to buy some meat and other things to celebrate for Chi Tang.

Seeing this, Third Sister-in-law Chi, who had already returned from her parents' home, hurriedly handed An'an to Old Man Chi and said with a fawning smile, "Dad, why don't you take An'an with you? This child keeps making a fuss about wanting to go to the market."

This is because she's afraid her son won't get the better deal.

Without much thought, Old Man Chi smiled and agreed, picking up An'an and placing her in his basket: "You can bring Silang along too. Eldest son, you and your wife can bring Xiao Suotou and Wulang along as well."

Although he prefers his daughters, Grandpa Chi treats his grandsons very well.

The children immediately cheered.

"ah!"

Chi Tang suddenly spoke up, reaching out to An An repeatedly while calling out "Ah ah".

She dreamt last night that An'an was kidnapped by human traffickers!

So An'an can't go out today.

When everyone saw her like this, Aunt Chi hesitated: "Third son's wife, why don't you leave An'an at home? Don't let anything else happen."
