Chapter 27 It Doesn't Matter If Things Get Chaotic

Chapter 27 It Doesn't Matter If Things Get Chaotic

That day, after breakfast, Luo Qingyan went out to buy groceries with her grandmother. Unexpectedly, they encountered a gossip on the way.

Grandma was always easygoing. As long as it wasn't a matter of principle, she could always make a big deal out of a small one and didn't mind suffering a little loss. Therefore, the target of the other party's sarcasm was naturally Luo Qingyan.

Luo Qingyan increasingly understood that human beings were all kinds of strange and unpredictable, and that being right wasn't always enough. Therefore, she would avoid arguing about many things if possible, as there was no need to waste her time. However, if it affected those around her, especially since the other party had angered her grandmother, she wouldn't mind making a scene.

"Fine, you're saying men frequently come and go from my yard, right? Then show me the evidence! Spreading false information and defaming others is a crime." Luo Qingyan initially tried to explain slowly, though she didn't expect to settle things with just explanations; she still needed to take steps, one by one. Now that other passersby had gathered, the time was ripe, and she began to speak loudly.

"Oh my, why are you making it sound so serious? How did it become a crime? We just heard it from others. As the saying goes, there's no smoke without fire. If anyone's committed a crime, it's someone who's immoral and disreputable!" The tall man, who loved to be aggressive, immediately became sarcastic when he heard Luo Qingyan's tone change.

"Exactly! We didn't see it, but someone saw it with their own eyes! Do you really expect someone else to film that kind of thing for you? Young people are so stubborn!" The short man, seeing that the tall man wasn't afraid, continued to mock him.

"Looks like reasoning with you won't work, is it?" Luo Qingyan continued to speak loudly, looking at the people around him, "There are two people here who like to spread rumors. They can't produce any evidence but just talk big. Everyone be careful, maybe the others here will be the ones spreading rumors tomorrow!"

“We’ve all done our jobs right, so why would we be the target of rumors? Only those with guilty consciences would be afraid.” The tall man crossed his arms over his chest, showing no fear whatsoever.

"Right, right, we're all decent people, why would we let so many weirdos into our homes?" The short man winked and grinned, his manner particularly sleazy. "Young people really know how to have fun!"

"Are you so sure that the rumors you're spreading are true?" Luo Qingyan said as she stopped her angry grandmother. She had just told her grandmother to deal with these two people, but what they were saying was so offensive that her grandmother couldn't hold back anymore.

"Rumors? Where are the rumors? Everyone knows it's true. Someone saw it with their own eyes, and..." The short man became more and more smug as he spoke, but was interrupted loudly by Luo Qingyan.

"I don't care who anyone is, you say it's true, so I'm coming for you!" Luo Qingyan grabbed the short man's wrist. "Let's go! To the police station, let's get this straight! I have nothing to hide!"

"Why the police station? Why do we need to go to the police station?" The short man was instantly terrified and struggled frantically.

"Since what you're saying is true, why don't you dare go to the police station?" Luo Qingyan grabbed the short man's wrist tightly. "Let me tell you, even if the person you claim to have seen it with their own eyes comes today, I'll still drag them to the police station! Spreading rumors has consequences, otherwise people like you will create chaos in society, and anyone could become the next victim! I have to take you to the police station to clarify things!"

"Why are you acting like this? Oh dear, you really are unreasonable shrewish women. No wonder you could do such a thing!" the tall man said as he tried to slip away.

"You think you can get away with talking bad about my granddaughter? Humph! No way! I will never let a bad person like you who spreads rumors harm others again!" Grandma then grabbed the tall man's hands with both of hers. "A clear conscience fears no accusation. I'm over seventy years old. If you're feeling guilty and want to run away, and dare to push this old woman down, the police will definitely catch you! Then your crime won't just be defamation!"

"You don't have any evidence! Why bother the police if you have no evidence?" The tall man's voice was clearly panicked. He tried to pull his hand away from the police station but didn't dare to use too much force.

Luo Qingyan had initially thought that catching just one person would be enough, and she was a little worried when she saw her grandmother take action. Fortunately, her grandmother's words stunned the other party, so she didn't stop her grandmother and quickly continued to speak loudly: "Go to the police station and explain things clearly. With the police as witnesses, if I have wronged you, I will go to your door every morning and kowtow to apologize to you for a year. If you have slandered me, you will have to do the same!"

"Are you sick?" The short man had no choice but to struggle.

"You have no evidence, going to the police station won't help!" Seeing more people gathering around, the tall man just wanted to leave. "You're restricting my personal freedom, that's illegal!"

"Didn't you know you were breaking the law when you spread rumors?" Luo Qingyan quickly retorted. "Let me tell you, we have evidence! I've only been back in G City for a little over ten days, and the surveillance cameras on the streets have been stored for a very long time. We'll go to the police station and pull up the footage to see who's right!"

"That...that was seen by someone else...you should go find someone else!" The short man stammered in panic.

“Yeah, go find the person who saw it. What kind of person are you to bully us?” The tall man lowered his head, not daring to look around.

"You're the ones spreading rumors, so I'm coming for you! As for the others spreading rumors, take your time!" Seeing the growing crowd, Luo Qingyan raised her voice and said to everyone, "See? The people spreading rumors are too scared to go to the police station. When they heard there was evidence, they tried to run away!"

At this point, if someone you know appears, and one person starts to chime in, the others will naturally be swayed by the emotions.

"Oh dear! Grandma Chen is such a kind person, all the neighbors know that. Her granddaughter is also outstanding. How dare you talk nonsense like that? It's so mean!"

"I think it's just jealousy that others are doing well and have beautiful and outstanding granddaughters, so some people are feeling unbalanced and deliberately talking nonsense!"

"Weren't you just swearing that what you said was the truth? Why are you so scared when you mention going to the police station? It's true that those who are guilty are the ones who are afraid! Call the police, people who spread rumors should go to the police station!"

"It takes only a mouth to spread rumors, but it takes a lot of legwork to refute them. You people who spread rumors should have some decency!"

"Oh dear, they're spreading rumors with such confidence, how can they not know how to accumulate good karma? They might just ruin the good karma of their whole family."

"Don't even think about running away! Don't think you can just let this go! People this bad should be taken to the police station and locked up for ten days or half a month!"

...

Seeing the surrounding crowd's outrage, the shorter man was the first to back down: "I...I only heard it from others...it has nothing to do with me...I didn't say it, really!"

"You're responsible for slandering others based on hearsay!" Luo Qingyan didn't back down at all, still full of momentum. "You should know that harsh words can hurt like a chill in June."

"I understand, I...I won't say it again." The short man lowered his head as low as it could go.

"What exactly do you want?" the tall man still tried to be defiant, avoiding the real issue. "We were deceived too. We didn't hurt you. Why are you dragging us like this..."

"Then let's go to the police station! Let's see who's right!" Luo Qingyan knew she couldn't let the other person argue any longer, so she interrupted them. Seeing that the other person was speechless, she immediately added, "Otherwise, apologize! Admit that what you said was a rumor, and don't spread rumors again! Otherwise, you have to go to the police station!"

"I apologize, I apologize!" the shorter man hurriedly said. "I only heard rumors from others, I apologize!"

Luo Qingyan then looked at the tall man.

"So what if we apologize? We were just scammed by other people!" The tall man, unwilling to back down, still stubbornly insisted, "Really, it's just a coincidence... Anyway, we apologized!"

"Alright, we're not the type to hold a grudge. Everyone saw and heard it anyway. But if there are any more rumors, it won't be that simple!" Luo Qingyan understood that the two people in front of him were just being sarcastic. They were using the other person as an example to scare others and clarify the rumors. They knew when to stop.

Subsequently, the two initially arrogant rumor-mongers slunk away like rats crossing the street.

Luo Qingyan and her grandmother, who were on the winning side, did not leave immediately.

Grandma and her acquaintances denounced the rumor-mongers. There were quite a few people listening nearby, all chiming in, one after another, making quite a scene.

Luo Qingyan wasn't in a hurry. She listened to everyone talking, occasionally agreeing and expressing her gratitude. The atmosphere was harmonious.

The "victory settlement" ended with a phone call from my aunt.

-

"Qingyan, I heard you and Grandma got into a fight with someone on the street?" Aunt's anxious voice came through the phone. "Are you alright? Don't worry, your uncle and I are coming right away!"

"Auntie, don't worry, it's alright now, the matter has been resolved." Luo Qingyan quickly explained, "The two people who spread rumors immediately wilted when they heard me say I was going to the police station, apologized, and ran away like rats in the street."

"How can we just let this kind of person get away with it?" Auntie was still indignant. "Our family members are not to be trifled with!"

“Of course, no one should try to bully our family. We are in the right and will naturally stand up for ourselves!” Luo Qingyan echoed her aunt’s words. “There were quite a few people watching, all of them on our side, so the other party didn’t get the better of us.”

"That's good. Since you said so, it must be resolved." Auntie felt much more at ease. "I'll still come over later. We'll have lunch together, and in the afternoon we'll go to Cuiyun Park. There's a gathering there that Grandma likes, so we can go and have some fun."

Luo Qingyan: "Okay, I'll tell Grandma. We'll go buy groceries together later."

Aunt: "Yes, I'll be there around ten o'clock."

-

After hanging up the phone, Luo Qingyan relayed what her aunt had said to her grandmother, and then the two said goodbye to the others and went to buy groceries.

Everything went very smoothly after that.

Buying groceries, going home, cooking, eating lunch, and scolding the people who spread rumors with my aunt.

By the time everyone prepared to go out in the afternoon, their mood had completely returned to cheerful.

Pets are allowed in Cuiyun Park, so I brought Chestnut with me on this trip.

Luo Qingyan said that when they arrived at the park or the market, her grandmother and aunt could wander around however they wanted, and she would be in charge of the chestnuts.

Luo Qingyan did indeed achieve this. Her grandmother and aunt had a great time shopping, and she took good care of Chestnut while accompanying and following them.

However, the market was very crowded and not very friendly to dogs. Many times, Luo Qingyan didn't let Chestnut walk on the road, but instead carried Chestnut in her arms. Later, she told her grandmother and aunt that she wanted to take Chestnut to a less crowded place to play, and they could meet up later.

Grandma and Auntie also felt that Chestnut was better off playing in a less crowded place, so they naturally agreed.

Luo Qingyan thought that after they had played enough, she might take Li Zi to Hefengting to find the little male fish. She hadn't gone to see the little male fish yesterday, so she should go today.

Unexpectedly, before she took Chestnut to a less crowded place, she ran into Pudding and its owner. Grandma and Auntie knew each other and naturally started chatting.

"Indeed, there are too many people here. Pudding almost got stepped on!" Pudding's owner said, holding Pudding. "I was so worried about Pudding."

“At first, we thought Chestnut would be too lonely at home alone, and since pets are allowed in Cuiyun, we definitely wanted to bring her along,” Auntie chatted enthusiastically. “We didn’t expect there to be so many people, especially since the path is so narrow. Qingyan from our family is planning to take Chestnut to a less crowded place to play.”

“I also think this place isn’t suitable for Pudding. My son said that Cuiyun recently opened a new pet park, and he’ll come over right away to take Pudding there to play. Why don’t you come together?” As soon as Pudding’s owner finished speaking, a familiar figure appeared.

It is Situ Lu.
