Chapter 3

"Mom, where's Aruo? Is he in school?"

Han Zecheng walked into the house, greeted his mother and asked.

He did come back for Su Ruo's matter.

After receiving her letter, he urgently asked for three days of leave. Instead of taking the train, he drove for seven or eight hours to rush back overnight.

When Wu Guizhi heard that her son asked about his wife without saying anything as soon as he came in, her face fell.

She said coldly, "In the room."

Seeing her son say "I'll go see her then", the tall figure turned around and was about to walk into the room. This figure overlapped with the figure of her ex-husband Han Hehuai many years ago. Wu Guizhi's heart suddenly became turbid and blocked. She said in a sharp voice, "You are worried about her!"

"I'm telling you, she's been lying in bed all day, not helping out at home, and even having your sister-in-law serve her food and drink. Just because I went to the brigade secretary and didn't allow her to sign up for the college entrance exam, she's giving me the cold shoulder!"

"Tell me, what kind of wife did you marry?"

"But you are still so worried about her, treating her like a living ancestor. But does she have you in her eyes? If she does, why would she go to the brigade secretary to get the official seal and register for the college entrance examination without consulting me or you? I'm afraid she is planning to abandon her husband and children!"

Han Zecheng paused, feeling a little choked up.

But he pursed his thin lips and didn't want to say anything to his mother. He pushed open the door and strode in.

In the dim room, a pale-faced woman with delicate eyebrows and eyes was lying on the bed with her eyes closed, as if she was fast asleep.

There was also a little boy lying next to him who looked to be only four or five years old.

When the little boy saw someone coming in, he shrank back defensively. When he saw who it was, some surprise flashed in his eyes, and he called out hesitantly, "Dad, Dad?"

"Guo Guo."

Han Zecheng took two steps at a time and walked to the bed. He held the little boy's hand with one hand and placed the other hand on the forehead of the woman on the bed. It wasn't too hot, so he felt relieved. Then he turned to look at his son and said, "Guoguo, is your mother feeling unwell?"

The little boy's eyes were already red, and when he heard his father's question, tears started to fall. Perhaps because he was afraid that crying too loudly would disturb the woman on the bed, he wiped his tears carelessly and said in a hoarse voice, "Dad, Mom was sick yesterday and has been sleeping for two days. She hasn't woken up yet."

Han Zecheng's expression changed again, and he asked, "Has a doctor come to see you?"

The little boy shook his head.

Han Zecheng felt the woman's forehead and breath again, exhaled, and said to the little boy, "Guoguo, you stay with your mother. If she wakes up, give her some water. I'll go to the brigade and ask a doctor to come and see her."

After saying that, he turned around and walked out the door, ignoring Wu Guizhi who was calling him from behind.

******

A few hours later.

"You haven't woken up yet? This is really precious. Second brother, you haven't been back for half a year. Why are you looking at me with a gloomy face as soon as you come back?"

"She is so sick, it's all her own fault, what does it have to do with me? Also, even if she really has something wrong, you don't have to be so rude to me. If you ask me, you are the one who spoiled her. Since she married into our Han family, when has she ever been nice to you and us? And you still hold her in your hands. Now she wants to leave and doesn't want to live with you anymore..."

"mom!"

When Su Ruo heard the quarrel outside, she felt a splitting headache and severe aches all over her body.

Who is arguing outside?

She had a headache and reached out her hand to press her head, but she didn't expect that she couldn't reach out her hand. Her hand seemed to be grabbed by something soft...

She opened her eyes with some discomfort...After opening her eyes, she was dazed for a moment, and then she was stunned.

What did she see?

What comes into view is the original dark blue brick and tile walls, some narrow and dim windows, a few pieces of wooden furniture, and the floor...the floor is actually a gray dirt floor.

It was not the room she was familiar with, nor was there a large bookcase she was familiar with, nor was there a beige flowered curtain, nor a landscape painting hanging on the wall...

Where is this?

Why is she here?

Isn't she sleeping in her room?

"Mom."

A soft and surprised voice sounded beside the bed, and the feeling of being tightly grasped came back to my hand.

Su Ruo lowered her head and met a little boy's big dark eyes that were shining with joy.

It's round and very beautiful.

"Mom, are you awake? I told you that you would be fine."

The little boy was talking, but his face was smiling, but his eyes were wet with tears, and his voice also had a cry tone.

Su Ruo was stunned.

Mom?

People outside might have heard the noise inside.

With a creaky sound, the door was pushed open. Looking through the window, Su Ruo saw a tall figure walking in. He was wearing a neat military uniform. His face was not particularly clear, but one could still tell that he had clear outlines and deep features. Although he seemed a little dark, he was very handsome and had an imposing aura.

He took a few steps towards the bed.

He looked at Su Ruo expressionlessly.

Su Ruo was startled by the man who suddenly appeared. She propped herself up and sat up, staring at him blankly.

"But he finally woke up!"

A voice suddenly exploded from behind.

Because this man's aura was so strong and his appearance was so abrupt, Su Ruo's eyes were fixed on him. It was not until this voice suddenly exploded behind him that she came to her senses and looked in the direction of the voice.

She was an old lady wearing a blue cloth shirt and had a slightly plump face.

Perhaps it was because his eyes and mouth corners were drooping heavily at this time, making his face look very mean.

When she saw Su Ruo sitting up, the corners of her mouth drooped again, revealing two deep wrinkles, and she said to Su Ruo, "It's good that you woke up, otherwise Lao Er would think that I couldn't tolerate you and forced you to death."

"Second brother's family, you know best how we have treated you over the years. You look down on our Han family, but we have always let you do what you want and indulged you. But this time it is a matter of principle. If you really want to go to a university, that's fine. Our Han family can't keep you as a young lady, and we don't want to keep you. It just so happens that the second brother has returned, so you can get a clean divorce. But if you want to leave, you can leave by yourself. Guozi is our Han family's grandson, you can't take him away..."

When the old lady said this, Su Ruo clearly felt that the little hand holding her suddenly tightened.

She lowered her eyes to glance at the little boy and saw that his expression was tense and his body seemed to be covered with thorns. For some reason, her heart ached.

She took his small hand in hers and squeezed it comfortingly.

The little boy's eyes immediately sparkled again, and Su Ruo's nose felt sore and she almost cried.

"Mom, A'ruo just woke up. It's not too late to talk about these things later!"

The man in military uniform interrupted the old lady.

He frowned, paused, and said, "Let me talk to Aruo first."

"Talk? What's there to talk about? Just let her do what she wants..."

"mom!"

The voice was not loud, but it contained an unmistakable fierce tone.

"Okay, you guys talk, you guys talk. I tell you, she can go to college, but you have to sign the divorce papers first! She doesn't care about you, she doesn't care about our old Han family, so we don't care about keeping her either!"

The old lady also heard that her son was angry. Although she was even more annoyed, she did not dare to argue anymore. She slammed the door and turned away with an angry face.

The man waited until she left the door before turning to look at Su Ruo.

Sign the divorce papers?

What are they talking about?

Su Ruoxin's heart started beating fast and she felt confused and nervous.

She didn't know what was going on now.

Isn't she sleeping at home?

Why did I find myself here when I woke up?

And who are these people?

Her mind was in a mess, and suddenly an absurd idea came to her mind. Could it be that her stepmother or stepsister was mad at her, so they drugged her while she was sleeping, and then sold her here to be someone's wife?

Thinking of this, she became more nervous.

******

The man noticed her nervousness and the wariness in her eyes as she looked at him.

His eyes darkened, but he did not "talk" to her directly as he had just said to the old woman. Instead, after looking at her for a while, he walked to the table, silently poured a glass of water, and took out an enamel pot from the cabinet, scooped a spoonful of something into the cup, stirred it with a spoon, and then walked to her bed with the white enamel cup, sat down, handed it to her, and said, "You have been unconscious for a whole day, drink some water to moisten your throat first."

But Su Ruo didn't respond to him.

Didn't look at him either.

At this moment, her eyes were fixed on the table where he had poured water earlier.

Just now when he went to pour water, her eyes followed him there. She followed subconsciously at first, but then her eyes fixed on one place... It was a desk calendar with a striking number "25" on it, but what shocked her was not the bright red Arabic numerals, but the row of small words on it, "October 1977".

She just stared at the desk calendar blankly.

I was confused at first, and then after my brain started to work, I felt like I was electrocuted.

"Aruo."

"Mom."

The man's forbearing voice and the little boy's hesitant voice sounded at the same time, finally bringing Su Ruo back to her senses.

She withdrew her gaze dully and woodenly.

He looked at the man first, then at the little boy.

Then suddenly, she found that some parts of the little boy's face and his eyebrows were very familiar.

The big eyes like black grapes, the slightly upturned corners of the eyes, the upright and small nose, and the pointed chin were exactly the same as hers, which made Su Ruo feel weird and confused.

"Mom."

Perhaps it was because Su Ruo's eyes were a little different from usual, the little boy was a little at a loss, and called out again hesitantly and nervously.

Su Ruo shuddered again.

He called her "Ama"!

She opened her mouth, totally unsure how to react.
