The departure time agreed upon with Grandpa Lin was three days later.
Thanks to the old man, they didn't need to buy plane tickets for this trip; instead, they hitched a ride on his private jet to Kunming. After getting off the plane, Song Mengmeng learned that not only were Old Master Lin and his wife traveling with them, but also several other children and grandchildren of the Lin family.
Everyone's reason for wanting to come along was exactly the same: they were worried about their parents making the trip.
Since they're already here, saying things like "it's not suitable for them to travel together" is superfluous. Besides, Song Mengmeng hasn't commented on this matter at all; Hu Yue ultimately made all the decisions regarding the itinerary.
Hu Yue's colleagues who stayed in Yunnan Province did a pretty good job of investigating some of the past events. They also combined the information from the old man's missions and finally determined that there were six villages where the old man might have lived.
However, after so many years of changes, many villages have lost their original appearance, making it extremely difficult to inquire about previous news.
The only solution was to take the old man to each village one by one.
All six villages are located near the border. For safety and to avoid unnecessary trouble, everyone had obtained their passports early in the morning. They first went to the four villages on the border side, but found no special clues. So, everyone's hopes were ultimately pinned on the last two villages.
Although the village is still relatively remote compared to other places, conditions are much better than they were decades ago. At least there's now a dirt road that vehicles can travel on.
After entering the first village, Grandpa Lin went down to take a look around and made some inquiries, but he didn't find anything. The only remaining village was a one-night journey.
The old man decisively rejected his family's suggestion to rest in the village for the night and set off again the next morning. Perhaps it was the environment that stirred up dormant memories deep within his mind, but he found himself feeling an unprecedented urgency and anticipation for the last village.
Unable to dissuade the determined old man, everyone had no choice but to comply with his request and continue their journey by car to the last village.
The journey was relatively smooth, but on the second morning, as we approached the village in Yunnan and Myanmar, the early morning mist shrouded the mountains and forests, making the drive exceptionally difficult for the driver.
Because this section of the road was particularly difficult to travel, the guide leading the way had to eventually order the road to be stopped, wanting to wait for the morning mist to clear before continuing.
This kind of scenery, rarely seen in the city, really caught Song Mengmeng's attention. She didn't go too far, just wandered around the roadside until her eyes were drawn to an inconspicuous sculpture under the roots of a tree.
"What is this?!" Because of Song Mengmeng's approach, Hu Yue, who was drawn over, naturally noticed the unusual nature of this small sculpture.
It looked dark and was probably due to its great age. The sculpture was severely corroded. The two people looked at it for a long time before they could vaguely make out that it should be a toad.
"Let's look around some more and see if there are any similar things nearby." Although she didn't know the significance of these things, Hu Yue was still quite interested. She called Luo Yueling and the others over to take a look, and then searched around the area. Sure enough, they found two more sculptures that should be from the same period.
There were scorpions with broken tails, and headless coiled snakes...
“It should be the Five Poisons.” Hu Yue stood up, and without much guessing, she could imagine what the sculpture they would find next would be about.
Golden toad, centipede, scorpion, snake, spider.
Whether they are sorcerers or practitioners of black magic, they all have an inseparable love and worship for these poisonous creatures.
These poisonous creatures are both partners and sources of power!
These were things she hadn't seen in the previous villages. Hu Yue glanced instinctively in the direction of the convoy; she knew without a doubt that they had finally found their way!
Song Mengmeng and her group did not linger here for long. About an hour later, the morning mountain mist gradually dissipated, and the convoy continued on its way. Not far along, they arrived at the mountain village nestled halfway up the mountain.
Although this village is located in Yunnan and Myanmar, most of the villagers' ancestors came from China, so most people in the village still retain the habit of communicating in the Chinese language.
As expected, as soon as Grandpa Lin got out of the car, it was as if he had unlocked some kind of memory code in his mind. Without any guidance, he walked briskly towards the village.
At first they walked, but eventually they even started running.
The younger generation following behind him were all quite frightened by the old man's actions, and they all hurried with him toward the village, afraid that he might accidentally fall and cause trouble.
But the old man was in very good condition at the moment. He walked around several stilted houses that looked like they had just been renovated, and finally walked to the innermost part of the village and stopped in front of a three-story bamboo house.
This bamboo stilted house looks quite old, but it is very well preserved. Judging from the furnishings in the courtyard, it seems to be inhabited.
"You're here!" Just as the group was trying to persuade the old man to leave, the door of the bamboo house was opened from the inside. A young woman who looked to be in her early twenties, wearing a tube skirt, walked out with a smile. She was not surprised at all to see the old man standing at the door. She greeted him as if he were a long-lost friend and opened the tightly closed bamboo gate for them.
"You...you know me?!" Old Master Lin was somewhat surprised. His mind was in complete chaos. Many memories he had never had before seemed to have broken free of their seal, violently crashing out and rampaging through his thoughts, causing his head to throb with pain...
His pain subsided slightly when he saw the unusually kind-looking young girl in front of him. As he regained his ability to think, Old Master Lin looked at the charming and lovely girl in front of him and felt that this scene was somewhat familiar!
It seems like many, many years ago, in the same place, a girl who looked almost exactly like her came to open the door for him with a smile in her eyes...
"Of course!" The girl nodded with a smile, looking at Grandpa Lin quite naturally. But what she said next left everyone speechless: "Because, you are my grandpa!"
