Chapter 404 The Secret of the Hot Spring Resort

It's just this cold and sticky feeling...

None of them were what she liked.

However, those whose senses were not as acute clearly had not yet realized that they were gradually heading towards utter ruin, and were still happily chatting with the talkative ghost brother about some interesting stories from the mountains.

The bus drove straight through a gate that hadn't yet been fitted with a fence, and parked directly in front of a two-story building that was lit up and looked like a reception center.

Although she had mentally prepared herself, when Song Mengmeng got off the bus with the others, the scene she saw still made her frown.

This little building...

It's so dilapidated!

It doesn't look like a building from this era at all; it's more like a style from the 1950s or 60s or even earlier. Probably because it has been neglected for many years, the mottled walls are covered with moss, making it look as dilapidated as a dangerous building.

She walked slowly to Yao Anna's side and asked in a low voice, "What does this building in front of us look like?!"

“It’s a very new and impressive reception hall!” Although Yao Anna didn’t know why Song Mengmeng would ask such a question, she still answered honestly.

Song Mengmeng didn't ask any more questions, but instead pulled her to join Bai Wei and Wang Wei, who were getting off the bus behind them.

Upon arrival, the first step was naturally to arrange rooms for them.

Bai Wei and Wang Wei were naturally assigned together. Song Mengmeng and Yao Anna said they could share a standard room with Hu Yue. As for Shuten-dōji, because of his self-introduction, he was unsurprisingly assigned to Hu Da, who had a dark expression on her face.

Because they were close friends, they were all eventually assigned to Building 4 in the back dormitory area.

After passing through the dilapidated buildings ahead, Song Mengmeng felt more and more the necessity of advancing the operation tonight as she walked further with her room key in hand.

These houses really looked more and more dilapidated than the last, and the environment inside was so bad it was suffocating.

However, Bai Wei, Wang Wei, and Yao Anna, being ordinary people, couldn't see any of this. So, the only ones whose faces weren't looking too good right now were Song Mengmeng, Hu Yue, Hu Da, and Shuten-dōji.

Based on the principle that "if I die, my fellow Daoists must die too, and the whole family must be together," after entering a standard room arranged on the third floor, Song Mengmeng did not hesitate to temporarily open the Heavenly Eye for those three clueless idiots. The result was predictable.

Although Yao Anna had seen her fair share of strange occurrences, she was still stunned by this sudden turn of events.

She never expected that the room they were living in would look like this.

"What on earth is this place for?!" Bai Wei and Wang Wei were naturally quite frightened. Bai Wei took a few steps back, staggered a couple of steps, and then steadied herself by holding onto the iron frame at the head of the bed.

The room furnishings here don't resemble those of a hot spring hotel at all; they're more like...

A hospital!

The two metal-framed beds in this room are clearly standard hospital beds.

Song Mengmeng walked around the room, finally stopping in front of a bedside table. She squatted down, opened the drawer, reached in, and touched something. Sure enough, she found a yellowed photograph.

"Taken in August of 1939." Song Mengmeng looked at the bright-smiling girl in the photo, with her hair in two braids hanging down to her chest, wearing a school uniform from the Republic of China era, turned the photo over, and read the line of text on it in a low voice.

“In 1939, wasn’t that…” Song Mengmeng’s words startled Yao Anna, who subconsciously looked at Shuten-dōji, her eyes immediately filled with a hint of rejection and hostility: “Wasn’t that when the Sakura Kingdom invaded China?!”

But if you calculate the time, that's almost a century ago! Could it be that the place we're in now was a hospital built back then?!

“Perhaps it’s a sanatorium.” Following Song Mengmeng and the others’ example, Wang Wei was looking around the house when he made another discovery in the wardrobe. He found a somewhat faded receipt with Japanese writing on it. However, this did not stop Wang Wei, who knew some Japanese, from quietly translating the contents of the receipt: “This is a sanatorium built by the Japanese military to accommodate many generals who returned from the front lines for recuperation.”

Why is there a photo of a Chinese female student in a sanatorium intended for soldiers from Japan to recuperate?

It would have been better if we hadn't dug in; the more we dug, the more confusing the facts became.

Song Mengmeng narrowed her eyes, and decided to go all the way, so she searched the remaining two rooms one by one, but she did not find any more valuable clues.

Meanwhile, the other girls who had also been assigned to the same building had already packed everything up and brought their prepared items. They came to call them to come downstairs and meet at the hot spring resort.

Seeing that they weren't prepared at all, the girls became visibly anxious and urged, "They're all waiting downstairs, hurry up!"

To avoid arousing suspicion from the locals, Song Mengmeng and her friends didn't argue much. They nodded in agreement with the other girls, said they would be going downstairs soon, and then each of them took the items they needed for the hot spring and went to meet up with the others.

"Anna, you and Wang Wei must remember to keep the lucky stars I gave you before, and no matter what happens, you must not be separated from Sister Weiwei!"
