Chapter 416 Identity

Hu Yue told Yan Di and Song Mengmeng about Reynolds's whereabouts. She smiled slightly. Since she would be able to see Reynolds the next morning, she didn't stay long. She had a simple meal with Song Mengmeng and the others and then left very quickly.

The next morning, Hu Yue arrived early to meet up with Song Mengmeng.

Song Mengmeng was somewhat surprised when she met Reynolds.

Based on Hu Yue's description, Song Mengmeng thought that this should be an old man of considerable age. However, when she met him, she found that although the old man's hair and beard were white, he looked to be only in his early forties and was quite young.

After a brief introduction, Reynolds didn't even consider going to a hotel and immediately suggested visiting Valenna's home.

He changed his previous carefree tone on the phone and his communication with Hu Yue became unusually cautious and formal. After visiting Varena's house and taking a look around, he immediately asked to see Varena's remains.

After reviewing all the clues he needed, Reynolds turned to Hu Yue as he walked out of the morgue and said, "Sorry, I'd like to have a smoke."

Hu Yue did not refuse Reynolds's request and accompanied him to the smoking area next door.

Reynolds lit a cigarette, held it between his fingers but didn't take more than two puffs before tossing it into the ashtray. When he turned back to face Hu Yue, his expression clearly showed that his emotions had calmed down considerably.

"What do you want to know?!"

Having decided to cooperate, Reynolds wasn't one to drag things out.

He came over and said directly to Hu Yue, "Let's find a place and have a good talk!"

Hu Yue didn't choose a place too far away; she picked the same coffee shop where she had met Yan Di and the others before.

The window seat offers a semi-private space, making it convenient to discuss matters when there aren't many people around.

“After you called me yesterday, I checked my email.”

Sure enough, I saw the email that Valenna sent me.

It's me..."

Reynolds swallowed the bitter taste in his mouth. He had only wanted to indulge and relax for a few days, just like he always did during his annual vacations. He never expected it to turn out like this…

"This matter is not your fault."

Hu Yue wasn't trying to comfort her; she was just telling the truth.

Reynolds is currently on vacation, and he is free to decide how he spends his time there—that's his right and freedom. If this happened, the blame lies with the cruelty and malice of those behind it; how can anyone else be blamed?!

"I thought about what happened to Valenna all night last night, and it really made me think of something."

Our Vatican attributes such things to demonic possession, and your China has a similar concept, something like... something like possession?

To be honest, I did notice this kind of thing a long time ago.

As Reynolds spoke, he took out a thick file bag from his briefcase and placed it on the table in front of him.

"The earliest example can be traced back to more than 140 years ago, when a murder occurred in London. A woman who was once gentle and kind suddenly changed her usual gentle and kind image. She seemed to have gone mad, stabbing her own family members with a knife and then rushing out of her house, stabbing more than a dozen passersby."

In the end, it was the Knights who intervened and subdued her.

After the trial, the Vatican determined that the woman was possessed by a demon, and sentenced her to be burned at the stake.

But as she was being led to the execution ground, she kept crying out that she was innocent and that she hadn't done those things! But no one believed her at the time.

Even if it exists, what people are more afraid of and worried about is whether the demon inside her body has disappeared.

Therefore, the safest solution is to sacrifice her to save more innocent people!

As Reynolds spoke, he opened the file bag and took out a yellowed document to show Hu Yue and the others.

"I don't know if similar things have happened elsewhere, but in the smog country, within the scope of my control, there have been at least twenty such incidents over the years."

At first, it was just ordinary humans who got into trouble.

More than a decade ago, they switched to another race.

For example, there are wolves, vampires, and a few others, where wizards go mad.

The Vatican interprets this as demonic possession, but I always felt that the matter was not as simple as it seemed. At least, it shouldn't be explained away with a simple statement about demonic possession.

So before Valenna came to the flower country, I made a request to him.

The point is to have him come to China and keep an eye out for similar incidents happening there!

A month before he sent me this email seeking help, he had investigated a heinous murder case that occurred in Guizhou Province, China.

Because two of the victims inside were tourists from our smog-ridden country.

This matter is somewhat similar to the mistake made by the usually gentle and harmless woman I just mentioned. Therefore, he immediately passed on the news to me.

After that, he didn't contact me again for a long time.

I assumed he was just too busy with work, so I didn't bother him. It wasn't until yesterday, when you informed me that something had happened to Valenna, that I rushed over in such a hurry.

"If we assume that the so-called 'demon' really survives by taking over other people's bodies, what would they do if they encountered a body stronger than an ordinary person?!"
