Chapter 427 St. John's Cathedral

The screams rose and fell, further fueling the panicked crowd as they fled, turning the entire cathedral into a chaotic hell in an instant.

Protected by Yan Di, Song Mengmeng avoided the fleeing crowd and took refuge behind a nearby pillar.

Looking at the miserable state of those cultivators, it's almost obvious that these things were no longer cultivators at all, but rather vessels corrupted by evil spirits!

The two concealed themselves and silently disappeared into a nearby passageway, making their way toward the secret hidden in the shadows.

The commotion inside the church was so great that it not only alerted the Vatican officials on guard outside, but also startled Hu Yue and her group who were investigating the surrounding area nearby.

They still don't know exactly what happened here, but judging from the commotion, it must be quite significant!

Without hesitation, they all put down what they were doing and gathered over here.

Like Hu Yue and the others, the people from the Vatican were also thrown into disarray by this turn of events. Yesterday, Marcus returned defeated from Old John's place, and unsurprisingly, he received a severe scolding, still somewhat unable to process what had happened.

But no matter how upset I am, I still can't stop doing what I need to do.

This morning, after barely managing to clock in for work, before he could even have a cup of coffee to catch his breath, news came from outside that something had happened at St. John's Cathedral.

If this had happened anywhere else, it wouldn't have been a big deal, but it happened at St. John's Cathedral!

That place could easily be called the heart of the Vatican of the Smog-ridden Nation!

So Marcus rushed out almost without hesitation, heading straight for St. John's Cathedral.

However, he wasn't there immediately. By the time he arrived, the place was already in complete disarray and chaos. The church doors were sealed off by layers of police officers, and there were many ambulances waiting to treat the wounded who were being carried out of the church.

"What's going on?!"

Seeing that he wouldn't get any useful information here, Marcus didn't hesitate and immediately called his companion. He remembered that Evan should be stationed outside St. John's Cathedral today, so asking him should yield some useful information.

"I don't know either. I just heard that the holy water suddenly changed and completely corroded the cultivators who were presiding over the ceremony. This commotion naturally frightened the pilgrims who came to worship. When everyone was running away in panic, a stampede occurred. In short, it was a complete mess."

Evan was also complaining non-stop on the other end of the phone.

He now wanted to know what had happened! The entire St. John's Cathedral looked like it had been invaded by robbers, trampled and destroyed beyond recognition! That wasn't all; the worst part was the police officers and reporters who had rushed over after hearing the news.

In addition to the tourists who had already escaped, there must have been some who took photos and videos. If these were released, given the magnitude of the incident, the Vatican headquarters would not be able to remain silent!

If they really do send investigators over...

The thought of what he knew sent a chill down Evan's spine. And that was information only a lowly henchman like himself could access; if the truth were revealed, then…

"Didn't you ever consider blocking the news?!"

Marcus gritted his teeth, having cursed these idiots countless times in his heart, but he couldn't actually vent his complaints out loud.

"How could we seal it off?! It all happened so suddenly. By the time we realized something was wrong and rushed in to try and salvage the situation, it was already out of control!"

Evan scratched his head, spitting out a bit of irritation: "Buddy, I think we should hurry up and think of a way out. It's obvious that we can't hide this anymore!"

If we wait until the Vatican sends people to investigate this matter, it's very likely that none of us will escape!

"Evan, calm down! This isn't the time to talk about this. If something really happens, where do you think we can run to?!"

"Don't panic, wait for me at the back door, we'll talk when we meet!"

Marcus was also in a state of confusion at the moment, but he had not completely lost his mind. He took a deep breath and comforted Evan while making his way towards the back door of St. John's Cathedral.

The main entrance is now surrounded by reporters and police officers, making it impossible to enter without alerting others. We have to find another way.

Perhaps because Marcus was too flustered and preoccupied with his own thoughts, he didn't notice that two small tails were trailing far behind him.

The moment Hu Yue arrived, she spotted Marcus hiding in the crowd. She exchanged a glance with Hu Da, and the two of them followed him discreetly, heading towards the back door of the cathedral.

Marcus hurried along and soon saw Evan, whose face was pale and who was just as flustered as he was.

He reached out and pulled Evan to a secluded spot. After looking around to make sure no one else was there, he lowered his voice and asked in a low voice, "Did you notice anything unusual just now?!"

"Abnormal?!" Evan was stunned, not understanding for a moment what Marcus meant.

"When the holy water had problems, were there any unusual people or signs?" Although Marcus had been rushing along the way, it didn't stop him from sorting out the situation clearly.

"No... Oh right! It's the same group of people we met at Old John's before. Two of them came to our St. John's Cathedral this morning."

But, but it's not a big deal, is it?!
