Chapter 93 (End of Main Text): He's Back

Chapter 93 (End of Main Text): He's Back

Shen Panyan knelt in front of the Imperial Study and did not get up. Her body was already weak, and after only half a day, she could not hold on any longer and fainted in front of the Imperial Study.

Emperor Gan Ning summoned Zhu Zhi in, his expression calm, his voice unreadable as he inquired about everything concerning the two of them.

Now that the truth has been revealed, there's no point in hiding the princess and Lin Xiao's affair anymore, so Zhu Zhi honestly confessed everything.

After listening to this, Emperor Gan Ning remained silent for a long time before letting her leave.

After a while, he called out Shadow again.

"Shadow, tell Dark Nine to set off a few days later."

"The poison in Mingyue's body has not yet been cured. In the near future, let him return to Mingyue's side."

Shadow paused for a moment, not quite understanding why His Majesty had suddenly changed his mind, and respectfully replied, "Yes, Your Majesty."

Half a day later, Shen Panyan and Lin Xiao's past was laid out on Emperor Gan Ning's desk, including their experiences at the royal villa.

Although he knew about what had happened at the royal villa in the past, he only knew the general outline and not the details. Now, after reading about the various experiences the two had gone through, Emperor Gan Ning remained silent for a long time.

The entire imperial study was completely silent; you could hear a pin drop.

Suddenly, a low voice broke the silence, "Deyuan, do you think Anjiu's status is worthy of Mingyue?"

He naturally wanted Mingyue to be happy. Otherwise, he wouldn't have let her choose her own husband. She chose Gu Jinyan as her husband simply because she thought he liked Mingyue and would treat her well. But Gu Jinyan actually dared to do such a thing... Recalling the maid's answer earlier, Emperor Gan Ning's expression suddenly turned cold.

Back then, Gu Jinyan knelt before him and begged for this marriage. He thought Gu Jinyan was a good match, but he never expected that he would dare to treat Mingyue like this.

Now, he actually dares to come to him and complain, saying that Mingyue is going to elope with someone... Emperor Gan Ning's face grew darker and darker, and he lowered his head and began to write an imperial edict.

As he ground the ink, Eunuch Deyuan replied with a smile, "As for status, it's not that His Majesty can grant him any status he desires."

After Emperor Gan Ning finished writing the imperial edict, he gently put down his pen and said, "I was too attached to appearances."

He handed the imperial edict to Eunuch Deyuan, saying, "Deyuan, go to the Rongguo Duke's residence later. Since the Rongguo Duke doesn't know how to teach children, I will have him teach them properly again."

"My moon is not something that anyone can bully."

Eunuch Deyuan accepted it with both hands, saying, "Yes, Your Majesty."

When the Duke of Rong learned that he had been stripped of his title, he almost fainted. But the next moment, something even more despairing happened. He had been considered a promising candidate for promotion, but now he was transferred from his original position, a demotion in name only, to a position that no one cared about. In addition, the minor mistake that the eldest son of the Duke of Rong had made was also brought up by Emperor Gan Ning, and his official rank was reduced by two levels. He was directly exiled to a county magistrate outside the capital. He didn't know how much effort it would take to climb back up to the capital.

Most importantly, now everyone in the Gu family is disliked by His Majesty. Forget about climbing the social ladder, it would be good enough if others didn't kick them while they're down.

As for Gu Jinyan, Emperor Gan Ning did not impose any punishment, but only dissolved his engagement with Shen Panyan. However, no punishment is far more serious than punishment.

Because of what he did, the entire Gu family was implicated. Without Emperor Ning's intervention, the Gu family was thrown into chaos. They summoned their patriarch overnight to expel Gu Jinyan from the Gu family and sever all ties with him, hoping for His Majesty's mercy.

The princess has always been kind. She even forgave him for what he did last time, which was so serious. Gu Jinyan thought that the princess had let go of the matter and would not pursue his mistakes anymore. Who knew that the princess would tell His Majesty about what he had done?

It wasn't until everyone in the Gu family criticized him and angrily threatened to sever ties with him that Gu Jinyan realized how terribly wrong he had been.

*

The Imperial Palace.

Faced with Shen Panyan's stubbornness, Emperor Gan Ning finally gave in.

He had no choice but to compromise, unless he was willing to watch Mingyue die. Now that he knew about their past, Emperor Gan Ning felt that An Jiu was barely worthy of Mingyue.

However, it's impossible for him to give in so easily.

Therefore, Emperor Gan Ning added another condition: to take the life of the crown prince of the Southern Ping Dynasty.

For many years, people from the Nanping Dynasty had been lurking around his empress, instigating her to harm his many children, which led to the depletion of his offspring. Apart from the crown prince, he only had two princes left. If the third prince hadn't been hiding his talents in the past, and was actually quite capable, the Zhaoyan Kingdom would either have been without a successor or would have fallen into the hands of the previous dynasty. Such hatred must be avenged.

By severing the foundation of the Zhaoyan Kingdom, Emperor Gan Ning naturally had to reciprocate.

However, taking the life of the Crown Prince of the Southern Ping Dynasty was not easy, so Emperor Gan Ning agreed to let him take ten secret guards to assassinate him.

If things go well, he can appoint him as a loyal and brave general, bestow marriage upon Mingyue, and make him a prince consort.

"Lin Xiao, are you willing to take on this mission?" Emperor Gan Ning looked at him indifferently.

Lin Xiao knew that, given his status, His Majesty would at most allow him to stay by the prince's side. Even if he did many things, it would be extremely difficult for him to become the prince consort. But as long as he had a status, he could stay by the prince's side openly and legitimately, and that was enough.

Now that things have taken a turn for the better, how could he possibly refuse?

"Your Majesty, I am deeply grateful for your grace!"

Lin Xiao kowtowed, his calm voice unable to conceal his surprise.

"Alright, get up!"

"Thank you, Your Majesty."

As Lin Xiao stood up, Emperor Gan Ning looked at the tall young man below, scrutinizing him carefully. After a long while, he finally spoke, "Lin Xiao, I entrust my Mingyue to you. If you dare to betray her, I will take your head."

Lin Xiao knelt down, earnest and solemn, "Your Majesty, Your Highness is my life. I will always be loyal to Your Highness, protect her and cherish her for all eternity, and never let Your Highness suffer the slightest grievance."

After hearing what he said, Emperor Gan Ning finally smiled and waved his hand, "I understand. You may leave now. Go out of the palace gate and see Mingyue. She should have woken up by now."

"Yes, thank you, Your Majesty."

Lin Xiao bowed and withdrew, leaving the imperial study.

In the past, when he walked around the palace, he always concealed himself and had never walked out of the palace gates so openly as he had ever done so before.

And all of this was bestowed upon him by His Highness.

If His Highness had not pleaded with him, His Majesty would never have given in so easily.

Lin Xiao was eager to see His Highness.

His pace quickened, faster and faster, the crowd brushing past him until he stood in front of the princess's residence. He subconsciously wanted to use his lightness skill to climb over the courtyard wall and go inside, but then he suddenly realized that he no longer needed to hide. He could knock on the gate of the princess's residence and enter openly and honestly. He immediately stopped in his tracks.

He headed towards the gate of the princess's residence.

Lin Xiao stood in front of the vermilion gate, stretched out his hand, and knocked on the door three times, neither too hard nor too soft.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

The door creaked heavily, and the doorman's voice rang out, "Who is it?"

"I am Lin Xiao." Lin Xiao looked at the gatekeeper and smiled, "Please inform her, I wish to see Her Highness the Princess."

The gatekeeper, who always stayed in the outer courtyard, had never seen Lin Xiao and did not recognize him. He shook his head and said, "The princess is not receiving guests at the moment."

Lin Xiao: "Then please go and call Miss Zhuzhi. Tell her that Lin Xiao wishes to see Her Highness the Princess."

"Please wait a moment." The gatekeeper, seeing that he had mentioned the name of the princess's maid, politely invited him to stand up.

Thank you.

Lin Xiao stepped through the gate of the princess's residence and was led by his attendants to the main hall to wait.

Lin Xiao stood in the main hall, waiting patiently.

Shen Panyan had just woken up when she remembered Lin Xiao. She hurriedly got out of bed, intending to go to the palace again to beg her father to spare him. However, her servants came to report that a man named Lin Xiao wanted to see Miss Zhuzhi.

Shen Panyan was stunned, and quickly asked, "Lin Xiao, you said his name is Lin Xiao?"

The servants below, unsure why the princess had suddenly become agitated, quickly nodded, "Your Highness, he said his name is Lin Xiao. He originally wanted to see you, but the gatekeeper hadn't seen him before, and given your previous unconsciousness, he didn't grant permission..."

Shen Panyan interrupted him, "Where is he now?"

"Your Highness, please wait in the front hall."

Without a second thought, Shen Panyan walked toward the front hall. In the past, her courtyard was not far from the front hall, but now, she had never felt that the road from her courtyard to the front hall was so far. She walked too slowly, so she lifted the hem of her skirt and ran toward the front hall, completely ignoring the bamboo branch that was following behind her.

When she arrived at the front hall and saw that familiar, serene figure, tears suddenly streamed down her face.

She called out, "Lin Xiao!"

She ran towards him, but after only two steps, she was pulled into a tight embrace.

"Your Highness!"

His urgent voice reached my ears.

Shen Panyan reached out and hugged him, burying her head in his chest, unable to hold back her tears, choking back sobs, "You're alright, you're alright...it's so good!"

Lin Xiao gently comforted her, "I'm fine. It's all thanks to Your Highness that I can stand openly by your side."

Shen Panyan felt a little embarrassed. Actually, she hadn't done anything; she had just used herself to threaten her father.

If she had known this trick would be so effective, she should have threatened her father long ago.

However, as if remembering something, she hurriedly let go of him, looking at him nervously, "Lin Xiao, did Father Emperor do anything to you?"

She reached out and touched his body, checking him over. "Are you injured? I'll go and fetch Physician Lin..."

Lin Xiao grabbed her groping hand and smiled helplessly, "I'm fine, Your Highness, you don't need to worry."

"...However, Your Highness, if you keep touching me like this, something bad might happen."

He lowered his voice and whispered the last sentence in her ear, his warm breath brushing against it. Shen Panyan's cheeks flushed pink with embarrassment. "You...you...don't talk nonsense..."

Lin Xiao looked at her, his eyes crinkling with a starlight-like light. "Your Highness, I am not talking nonsense. I have permission this time."

Shen Panyan hadn't reacted yet: "Wh...what?"

What was permitted?

Lin Xiao smiled and said, word by word, "Your Highness, His Majesty has agreed to my request; I may become your consort!"

"Once I return from the Southern Ping Dynasty, His Majesty will bestow a marriage upon us."

Shen Panyan's mind went completely blank, and the whole world fell silent, so silent that she could only hear her own voice, "You, you said it's true?"

Is her father going to arrange a marriage between her and Lin Xiao?

But why did they come back from Nanping?

Shen Panyan asked anxiously, "Did Father ask you to do something, Lin Xiao?"

She couldn't help but worry, "Is what Father wants you to do very dangerous?"

"Your Highness need not worry, I know what I'm doing." Lin Xiao held her hand and intertwined their fingers. "Your Highness, once the Gu poison in your body is cured, I will set off for the Southern Ping Dynasty."

He gazed at her and said gently, "Your Highness, can you wait for me to return and marry you?"

Shen Panyan's cheeks flushed red as she whispered, "Okay!"

"I'm waiting for you, waiting for you to come back and marry me!"

"Your Highness..."

His soft, gentle voice rang out, and the next moment, she was pulled into a tight embrace once again.

The sound of his rapidly beating heart filled her ears, and Shen Panyan couldn't help but smile, her eyes shimmering like water, as she reached out and gently embraced him.

That's wonderful, he will be her husband.

He was the person she loved most.

She would never again feel that her father disliked her.

*

Although the Gu poison on Shen Panyan's body was peculiar, it was not without an antidote.

The secret guards that Emperor Gan Ning sent to Nanping have returned, bringing with them a way to detoxify.

The antidote for the Lover's Gu poison is actually not difficult. It only requires the heart's blood of someone who is deeply in love with the owner of the Gu poison, to the point of being willing to give up their own life, combined with several precious medicinal herbs to cure the Gu poison.

Medicinal herbs can be found, but someone you love so much that you'd give up your own life is hard to find.

And coincidentally, Chenpanyan has both.

But heart's blood sounds terrifying. Does it mean they have to cut open my heart to draw blood?

If a person's heart is cut out, can they still survive?

Shen Panyan was unwilling to let Lin Xiao take her heart blood. She kept asking Physician Lin if there were any other methods. Physician Lin was puzzled. "Princess, heart blood refers to the essence of the five internal organs. It does not mean cutting open the heart to take blood. Blood from the tip of the middle finger is also acceptable. Why do we need to change to another method?"

"......"

ah?

So, it's not necessary to cut open the heart to draw blood?

Shen Panyan was embarrassed. "Is that so...?"

"It's like this," Physician Lin said helplessly, "Princess, I still need to prepare your medicine. Could you please rest aside for a moment?"

Shen Panyan sat awkwardly to the side, "Okay..."

The process of removing the curse went smoothly without any major setbacks.

After the Love Poison was removed, Lin Xiao was about to set off for the Southern Ping Dynasty.

Shen Panyan originally wanted him to stay and recover before leaving, but the harassment from the enemy country on the border intensified. Furthermore, Lin Xiao wanted to complete his mission and return to the capital as soon as possible. Therefore, he left the capital as soon as possible.

He left without a sound.

Perhaps it was because he couldn't bear to part, but he left without making a sound, just as he had when he arrived.

However, Lin Xiao had already told her before leaving that, apart from feeling reluctant to part, Shen Panyan felt more at ease.

She believed he could accomplish his father's mission.

She will wait for him to come back and marry her.

Fearing that he would suddenly return after she left, Shen Panyan never left the capital to go to the villa to escape the summer heat, spending the entire summer in the sweltering capital.

While waiting for Lin Xiao to return, Shen Panyan also saw Gu Jinyan, whom she hadn't thought about for a long time.

That day, she happened to go out to buy rouge, and she happened to run into Gu Jinyan being surrounded and beaten by a group of people, looking extremely disheveled.

Although he has been expelled from the Rongguo Duke's Mansion for committing a serious mistake, he is still their own child. The Rongguo Duke's Mansion was not so heartless as to give him a courtyard, a shop, and a lot of money to make a living when they expelled him.

For an ordinary person, this would be enough for him to live comfortably in the capital.

However, Gu Jinyan was used to spending money recklessly, and this amount of money was not enough for him. In addition, after being kicked out of the Rongguo Duke's Mansion, Gu Jinyan had no intention of running the shop. He spent his days drinking in restaurants. In just half a month, the shop was ruined by him and no customers came in. When he left the mansion, the only concubine who was with him also ran away with all his money.

Without money to make a living, Gu Jinyan had no choice but to sell her shop and start looking for work in the capital.

But he was good at nothing. High-paying jobs wouldn't hire him, and Gu Jinyan looked down on low-paying ones. Deep down, he was still arrogant and thought that as the young master of the Rongguo Duke's Mansion, even if he was kicked out, he would still be the same Gu Jinyan he was back then.

Unfortunately, he offended the Emperor, and no one with even a little bit of inside information would hire him. In addition, he was arrogant and proud, so in the end, he could only do some errand-running jobs for others in the capital.

Those who had grudges against him in the past would kick him while he was down and mock him; some even ordered their men to beat him.

Seeing his disheveled state and filthy appearance, Chen Panyan gently lowered the carriage curtain. "Zhuzhi, let's go back."

"Princess, don't you care?" Zhuzhi thought the princess would go down to help him.

After all, the princess has always been kind, and Gu Jinyan is someone they know.

Shen Panyan said calmly, "He's just an irrelevant person. Why should I care?"

All of this is his own doing.

She was completely clear to him from the very beginning, and never lied to him.

But what did he do? He used an aphrodisiac on her. If she wasn't worried about Lin Xiao's identity being exposed, she would have told her father about it long ago. How could she possibly continue to tolerate him becoming her consort?

Thinking of the things he had done in the past, Shen Panyan couldn't help but feel disgusted. "Let's go, let's go back to the manor quickly."

"Yes, Princess."

Unexpectedly, Gu Jinyan spotted her carriage, rushed over, knelt down, and begged for forgiveness, "Princess, Jinyan knows he was wrong, Jinyan really knows he was wrong, please help Jinyan, Jinyan..."

Shen Panyan had no intention of listening to him. "Zhuzhi, have someone drive him away."

"Yes, Princess."

Zhu Zhi got out of the carriage and ordered the people behind him to drive him away. Gu Jinyan refused to leave and was eventually dragged away.

Shen Panyan didn't even glance at her before leaving.

However, she did not expect that Gu Jinyan would come to the princess's residence every day to request an audience after only seeing her once, just like before. Shen Panyan refused to see him and did not want to get entangled with him, so she asked Zhuzhi to handle the matter.

A few days later, Shen Panyan heard from her subordinates that Gu Jinyan had committed suicide by drowning.

Upon hearing this, Shen Panyan was somewhat surprised, "He's dead?"

Zhu Zhi knelt down nervously, "It's all my fault. If I hadn't spoken so harshly that day, Gu Jinyan wouldn't have committed suicide by drowning... Now people outside are saying that it was you, Princess, who forced him to his death, saying that you are ruthless..."

“It’s alright, get up!” Shen Panyan shook her head. “It’s just some gossip. Haven’t I suffered enough like this before? Let them be.”

Zhu Zhi stood up and looked at her cautiously, "Princess, are you really not bothered?"

Shen Panyan picked up her brush and painted, her voice calm, "I used to be able to, but now I really don't care anymore."

She had a clear conscience and had never harmed Gu Jinyan. What did it have to do with her if he couldn't think straight and tried to commit suicide?

All she wants now is for Lin Xiao to come back, and she doesn't know if he's alright.

As Shen Panyan's brush fell, a lifelike portrait came into view.

Zhuzhi glanced at it and praised, "Princess, you painted so well! In my opinion, it's exactly the same as the... oh no, I should say the Prince Consort, even the mole on his nose is identical!"

Shen Panyan blushed at her words. "It's not that great either; it's still quite different from who he really is..."

Zhu Zhi laughed, "But this servant feels there's no difference. Perhaps it's because the princess misses him so much that she sees no resemblance at all." She then sighed, "Now, the princess can't even see this servant in her eyes, only her husband!"

Shen Panyan blushed even more and scolded her, "What nonsense are you talking about? You're right in front of me right now, how could I not see you?"

Zhu Zhi teased, "Is that so? But I noticed that Your Highness's gaze never left the portrait of the Prince Consort!"

Shen Panyan blushed at her teasing, then pretended to be angry and turned to leave, saying, "I'm not talking to you anymore."

Zhuzhi quickly chased after her, begging for forgiveness, "Princess, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me this time!"

Shen Panyan chuckled at her antics, "Alright, alright, I forgive you."

Seeing that she truly didn't care about Gu Jinyan's death, Zhuzhi felt a huge weight lifted from her heart and stopped teasing her to distract her.

"Princess, the gatekeeper just delivered a letter from the border, but it's unsigned. I think it might be from the Prince Consort. Would you like to take a look?"

Shen Panyan was stunned, then overjoyed, "Quick, let me see it!"

Zhu Zhi quickly took the letter.

As the letter was unfolded, Lin Xiao's handwriting came into view.

His handwriting looks much better than before.

He greeted her and said that he had completed his mission and was on his way back to the capital.

Apart from that one sentence, the rest was all he had seen and heard along the way: where he went, what he experienced, what interesting things he encountered... He wrote it all over the place for several nights.

His letter, like the man himself, was very serious, as if he were reporting a mission. Although Shen Panyan found it interesting, she was more concerned about whether he was alright.

However, after reading all the letters, she found no mention of his own situation, only his observations and experiences along the way.

Why did he tell her these things?

The smoke from the sunken bank remained unconvinced.

More than anything else, she was worried about whether he was injured.

Once he returns to Beijing, she will definitely tell him properly that the letter wasn't written that way.

Just as Shen Panyan carefully put the letter away, she suddenly remembered something.

When they were at the royal villa, she had asked him what was outside the capital and what he had experienced... Could it be that this is why he wrote so many irrelevant things?

While Shen Panyan found it amusing, she also felt a tightness and a sour feeling in her chest.

I'm not sad, I'm happy.

She couldn't wait to see him.

Shen Panyan stayed in the princess's residence, hoping every day that he would suddenly appear before her, just like before.

He had already completed his mission when he wrote the letter. Although the letter was sent via the official post station, which would be faster, it wouldn't be too slow for Lin Xiao. Perhaps she would be able to see him in a few days.

But little did anyone know, this wait lasted until autumn, until the day when it snowed in the capital.

Large, fluffy snowflakes drifted down and blanketed the capital, the streets were covered with a thick layer of snow, and everyone was dressed in thick winter clothes.

Shen Panyan sat by the window, watching the heavy snow outside bending the branches, which then fell with a soft thud, forming thick snowdrifts on the ground.

Zhu Zhi took a cloak and wrapped it around her, saying, "Princess, be careful not to catch a cold."

Shen Panyan shook her head. "I'm fine. Zhuzhi, has there been any news from the city gate?"

Ever since she learned that Lin Xiao would be returning, she had people guarding the city gates every day, just wanting to know his news as soon as possible.

Bamboo Branch shook its head, "Not yet!"

Shen Panyan lowered her eyes in disappointment, "I understand."

More than three months have passed, why hasn't Lin Xiao returned to the capital yet? Could something have happened to him?

Now, her relationship with Emperor Gan Ning is not as strained as before. When Shen Panyan has nothing to do, she often goes to the palace to talk to him.

She had tried to get information about Lin Xiao from her father, but he said it was a secret and he couldn't tell her until the matter was completed. No matter how much she begged and pleaded, it was no use.

Helpless, Shen Panyan could only count down the days and wait.

Several days passed in a flash, and night fell. There was still no news from the city gate. Shen Panyan returned to her room in disappointment, tossing and turning on the couch, unable to fall asleep.

So much time has passed, and there's still no news from Lin Xiao. Could something have happened to him?

Thinking of this, Shen Panyan's heart clenched involuntarily, filled with fear and unease.

Something must have happened to Lin Xiao!

Otherwise, even if he had been traveling slowly, he should have been back in the capital by now. So much time has passed and there's still no news of him; something must have happened to him!

Shen Panyan secretly made up her mind that tomorrow, no matter what method she used, she must get news of Lin Xiao from her father.

Father must know about Lin Xiao's whereabouts.

After making her decision, Shen Panyan finally managed to fall asleep.

The candlelight flickered inside, and all was quiet.

Half-asleep, Shen Panyan seemed to hear the beaded curtains in her room rustling.

Is it Lin Xiao?

Shen Panyan suddenly woke up and opened her eyes.

In an instant, a familiar figure came into view.

He was standing not far away. Seeing her awake, he was somewhat surprised, hesitant, and guilty. "Your Highness, did I wake you...?"

Shen Panyan practically leaped out of bed, frantically trying to run towards him, but in her haste, she didn't watch her step and tumbled downwards...

The next moment, she stumbled into a cold embrace. Lin Xiao helped her up, his helpless voice whispering in her ear, "Your Highness, watch your step!"

Shen Panyan surrounded him, looking him over again and again. Seeing that he showed no signs of weakness or injury, she couldn't hold back her tears, "Why did it take you so long to come back..."

She waited for him for a long time.

Lin Xiao felt guilty. "I'm sorry, Your Highness, I..."

Shen Panyan quickly covered his lips, "You're back now, and you're going to be my consort, so why do you still call me Your Highness and refer to yourself as your subordinate?"

She feigned anger, "Don't you want to be my son-in-law?"

Lin Xiao quickly explained, "No, it belongs to..."

"Um?"

Lin Xiao had no choice but to change his self-reference, "I'm sorry, Your Highness, I'm late, I'm so sorry..."

He absolutely refused to change the title "Your Highness".

Because this is a title unique to him.

No one else would call her that except him.

Shen Panyan couldn't persuade him otherwise, so she had no choice but to accept it.

She threw herself into his arms, feeling the chill and snow in his embrace. Though she was smiling, tears streamed down her face. "It's okay, it's good you're back, it's good you're back. I've been waiting for you to come back and marry me..."

Although she didn't know what task her father had given her, she knew it certainly wouldn't be an easy one.

From a secret guard to someone in the open, receiving a marriage bestowed by the emperor—this immense honor also meant he had to pay a heavy price.

He went to such great lengths to stand by her side, how could she feel it was too late?

As long as he comes back alive, it's not too late.

Lin Xiao hugged her waist tightly. "Your Highness, I will not break my promise."

He said he would come back to marry her, and he will definitely do so.

"Yes, I believe you."

Shen Panyan looked up at him, her almond-shaped eyes curving, and took the initiative to kiss his lips.

The next moment, she felt herself being placed on the bed.

He leaned down and intertwined his fingers with hers... Outside the window, the cold was biting, but inside the room, it was warm and fragrant.

He could finally have her openly and legitimately.

Author's note: The story is finished! Hooray!

No DO No DO

Let me say a few words after finishing the book. I started writing this book with great passion. Although I had an outline, it was still very tiring to write. I almost went off track halfway through. I always thought I was following the outline, but that's not true at all. When I looked back and realized that, I was so upset that I wanted to stop updating. The rhythm was completely disrupted. But I still persevered and didn't stop updating.

The pace was slow in the early stages because I didn't know what I wanted to write. I learned a lot from this book, and I also learned how to handle emotions and pacing more delicately. I'll keep working hard on the next book.

Thank you to everyone who stayed until the end! Love you all, love you all! [heart emoji]

Thank you so much to my lovely follower who's been supporting me all this way! You've given me so much confidence and made me realize that my writing isn't so bad after all. Love you, love you! [heart emoji]

Finally, because serializing is too tiring, I'll be taking a break for a few days. I'll be updating the side stories very, very slowly, including the wedding scene, which will also be in the side stories. There are also some slice-of-life scenes. You can let me know if there's anything you'd like to see!

My next book is "My Husband is an Assassin," another story about a loyal and devoted husband. This time, I promise I won't write any filler!
