Chapter 53: Nian Nian Pitfalls
After choosing the gifts, the three of them packed up and got in the car.
The three of them sat in the back seat. Shi Nanqi told the driver the address of Xi Zhu's home. Shi Guilin reviewed Xi Zhu's portfolio and the background of his creation on his mobile phone. After the review, he seemed to have thought of something and nudged Nian Nian's little shoulder who was sunken in the baby chair.
"Niannian, you are going to learn skills from a master, do you know? You must be polite and not be intoxicated by the beautiful aunt as soon as you see her. Oh, remember, restrain yourself." Shi Guilin reminded.
He also didn't understand why Nian Nian was so obsessed with "beauty" and behaved like this at such a young age. He really hadn't misjudged Nian Nian since the first time he saw her. She didn't behave like a child at all.
Nian Nian twisted his body after being poked on the shoulder. He was doubly confused: "What is this about worshipping? What is this about restraint? Auntie, it smells so good."
Shi Nanqi laughed heartily. "To learn from a master means that Aunt Xiangxiang, whom you'll soon meet, might become our Nian Nian's teacher. A teacher is someone who can make Nian Nian smarter and learn more knowledge. As for restraint—don't listen to your father, I won't restrain myself."
Shi Guilin: “…” No one cares about him as a father.
Nian Nian was very happy, her face full of happiness: "Nian Nian's teacher is Aunt Xiangxiang."
"Not yet." Shi Guilin said, "You can't call someone teacher right away, otherwise it will make you, the child, and me, the parent, look shameless."
Nian Nian tilted her head for two seconds, thinking: "Okay."
Shi Nanqi changed the subject: "I have a draft of my new composition."
Shi Guilin glanced at her and said, "The progress is quite fast."
"That's how creation works. When inspiration strikes, the work is quick, but without it, it takes a year to come up with something." Shi Nanqi shrugged, her long eyelashes casting a shadow on her eyelids. "Actually, I'm considering whether or not to write lyrics."
She has always disliked writing lyrics when composing music, but this song has a different meaning. She kind of wants to write lyrics to leave a trace of the existence of this memory.
"Fill it out. Do you want to fill it out yourself or ask someone to fill it out?" Shi Guilin asked.
His tone was a little too casual, and Shi Nanqi laughed: "Brother, didn't I tell you that the inspiration for this song came from Nian Nian? I planned to give it to him as a gift after I finished composing it."
Nian Nian agreed softly, "Yes, Auntie said it was a gift from Nian Nian!"
Shi Guilin sat up straight and said, "In that case, I will write the lyrics."
This reversal of attitude was too humorous. Shi Nanqi laughed and scolded: "Go away, I'll fill it in."
Shi Guilin was confused: "Then why are you asking for my opinion?"
"If I write the lyrics, someone has to sing them. I've decided to give this opportunity to you." Shi Nanqi kissed Nian Nian, who was playing with the red panda pendant. "After all, you are Nian Nian's father. I am a kind person, so I have to let you feel a sense of participation."
"Aunt, beautiful and kind." Nian Nian's eyes were firm.
"Our Nian Nian is the one who understands her aunt." Shi Nanqi enjoyed Nian Nian's flattery.
Shi Guilin stared at them with a nonchalant smile, then his gaze flickered to the window. He could see the sparse crowds of people and the swift traffic, the streets lined with tall buildings. The city was prosperous and crowded, but with each passing second, Shi Guilin felt as if he were in the wilderness, free from all restraints, a vast freedom.
Xi Zhu had contacted the security at the entrance to the villa complex in advance, so the Shi family's car was able to drive in smoothly. The car slowed down and stopped. Shi Nanqi stretched and breathed a sigh of relief: "We're here, let's get out."
Shi Guilin took Nian Nian down from the baby chair, held her in his arms, and followed Shi Nanqi all the way to the gate of Xi Zhu's house.
“Ding Dong—Ding Dong—”
Shi Nanqi pressed the doorbell next to the gate.
A woman wearing French flats and casual clothes came out and opened the door for them personally.
"Sorry to have kept you waiting." Xi Zhu extended her hand to invite them in. "We settled here a little hastily, and we haven't found a housekeeper yet. It's a bit time-consuming and laborious for me to do it alone."
Shi Nanqi gave her a warm hug and said, "You're so polite. We are sorry to bother you."
The atmosphere became familiar, and Xi Zhu led the way: "Let's go inside and talk."
A few people entered the villa and stepped into the living room. The first thing they saw was a child sitting on the carpet holding a pure black kitten.
Nian Nian's first glance fell on the all-black kitten. But he was still in Shi Guilin's arms, so he just looked at it. Xi Zimu also stopped petting the cat and looked at the group of people.
Xi Zhu invited them to sit down.
Shi Nanqi and Xi Zhu had known each other for a long time, so she first introduced Shi Guilin to Xi Zhu: "This is my brother Shi Guilin, and this is my brother's son - my nephew, named Nian Nian."
Shi Guilin dismounted and nodded, saying, "Nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about you. Hello, Teacher Xi."
"Wow, that's such an official statement." Surprisingly, Xi Zhu wasn't the kind of artist who liked to act pretentiously. After she finished her teasing, she said hello to Shi Guilin and waved Xi Zimu over, "Zimu, come say hello."
Xi Zimu stood up from the carpet. He didn't put the cat down, but instead walked over with it in his arms, calling out to each of them politely: "Hello, Auntie, Hello, Uncle."
After he finished speaking, he looked at Nian Nian inquiringly.
Shi Guilin hurriedly whispered in Nian Nian's ear, "Nian Nian, can you please say hello?"
"Yeah." Nian Nian shifted her gaze away from the black cat, "Hello, Auntie Teacher. I'm Nian Nian, I'm one year old."
When Shi Guilin heard the word "teacher", his heart skipped a beat and he met Shi Nanqi's eyes, who also had his eyes wide open.
Xi Zhu was stunned for a moment, then a smile spread across her face. She seemed touched by Nian Nian's cuteness, and she chatted with him patiently and with interest: "Why do you call me teacher as soon as we meet? I've never been your teacher."
"Because, because..." Nian Nian tried hard to recall the conversation in the car, "Papa said, Nian Nian, don't chase me away."
