Chapter Twelve: Fragrant Chili Oil
He Li took advantage of her free time to come and see what was going on between Xiao Ran and Xiao Tang Bao. The corners of He Li's mouth unconsciously curved into a smile.
When Xiaotangbao eats wontons, she likes to bite the tail of the wonton first so that she can taste the sweet soup and the aroma of seaweed. Then she puts the wonton into the soup to "swim" around so that the meat filling can also taste the soup.
Yu Miaoyin came out of the kitchen; "There are still many wontons left, would you two like to have some more?"
Little Tangbao wiped the soup from her mouth and smiled happily, "But I still have to eat dinner tonight. I can't eat too much now, otherwise I won't be able to eat dinner."
“Okay, then save your room for me to make you other delicious food,” Yu Miaoyin said.
After hearing this, Xiao Ran asked Xiao Tangbao in a low voice, "Does your older sister cook delicious food for you every day?"
Xiao Tangbao nodded, "Yes, my older sister makes me lots and lots of delicious food every day."
A few people came into the shop, and Yu Miaoyin had already gone into the kitchen to work. Xiao Tangbao glanced at them and seemed a little depressed: "But I feel that my older sister is working so hard. When I start first grade, I will be able to help my older sister with her work. She thinks I am too young to help."
Xiao Ran hummed in agreement. She and Xiao Tangbao had become quite familiar with each other because of this bowl of wontons, and she started talking more. "You're so cute, can we be good friends?"
"You're cute too, so we're good friends. You're my good friend, and I'm your good friend." As she spoke, her little braids bounced, which was very cute, and her round eyes blinked.
There was just one last wonton left in the bowl. Little Tangbao was about to eat it when a woman asked her, "Little girl, did you buy this here?"
Qi Yue saw the small wontons lying in the white porcelain spoon. The thin, translucent wonton wrappers were filled with meat filling. They were round and plump, with a hint of pink meat showing through. They looked delicious, so she couldn't help but ask a question.
"This was made for me by my older sister, it's delicious. There's also fried rice noodles here today, sister, you can try them, they're all very tasty," said Xiao Tangbao.
It turned out she was the owner's sister. The fried rice noodles must be the one Teacher Li gave her to try. Qi Yue nodded and said, "Okay, thank you, little friend."
While waiting in line, Qi Yue thought for a moment, why couldn't she be the boss's sister? That way she could eat lots of delicious food every day.
While waiting, watching Yu Miaoyin stir-fry the food, she swallowed hard. No wonder Teacher Li strongly recommended it; just by looking at how quickly she stir-fries it over high heat, she knew it couldn't be bad.
She didn't eat in the restaurant; instead, she packed it up to take home. After all, there were quite a few students in the small restaurant.
Neighbor Grandpa Xu also came over, "Xiaoyin, give me one too."
"Okay, you sit and wait." Yu Miaoyin turned on the stove to heat the iron pot.
"Sister Ayin, we're here too! We'd like a plate of fried rice noodles too." Several more people arrived one after another. Jiajia and Yiling always ate here together.
Grandpa Xu's fried rice noodles were served before theirs, and the fragrant aroma made Jiajia and Yiling take a few more glances.
Grandpa Xu and Yu Miaoyin are neighbors, and this is his first time eating at the restaurant. He remembers that Xiaoyin's cooking is indeed quite good, and now she has actually opened a restaurant, and she's doing a pretty good job of it. Compared to Xiaoyin, he's only slightly inferior, so does that mean he can open a restaurant too?
Thinking about it, he picked up a generously portioned stir-fried rice noodle, which included a few bean sprouts and shredded radish. He put it in his mouth, and the savory sauce and the crisp freshness of the vegetables collided together. The pork tenderloin had a slightly charred, crunchy texture, and the wok hei (wok aroma) was perfect!
Grandpa Xu touched his nose. He had just thought that he was only slightly inferior to Yu Miaoyin, but now he thought that this slight difference was probably not a small thing.
Soon, Xu Jiajia and Yi Ling also got their own portions. Looking at the plate of chili oil, Xu Jiajia asked, "Should we add some spice? It smells so good."
"Okay, let's add a little bit." Yiling scooped a small spoonful and put it on the fried rice noodles.
The aroma of the chili oil made their mouths water. Upon first taste, the intense spiciness of the chili quickly numbed Xu Jiajia's tongue, but she couldn't bear to stop, the spicy flavor building layer upon layer. A base of salty and savory flavor, followed by a surge of spiciness, made the taste even richer.
Uncle Liu came over and bought two more servings of fried rice noodles. He was about to leave, but when he saw that Xu Jiajia's plate of fried rice noodles had chili oil, he quickly added some as well, making it even more fragrant.
Several people had already eaten half of their food, but when they smelled the aroma of chili oil mixed with fried rice noodles, they added a spoonful of it as well.
Everyone was satisfied with their meal. After finishing their plate of fried rice noodles, the high school students felt even more motivated to study in the evening. They felt they could finish ten more math tests if given the same amount of food!
Xu Jiajia finished her fried rice noodles, leaned back in her chair to digest, and then waited for someone who ate very slowly.
"I don't even want to graduate now. Once I leave Yuncheng No.1 High School, where else can I find such delicious fried rice noodles?" Xu Jiajia exclaimed. "When I choose a university in the future, I want to choose one with delicious food, so I can eat and drink happily every day."
Yi Ling finished the last bite of noodles and was about to speak when she was attracted by a sharp sound. Not only them, but all the diners in the small restaurant looked out.
"I want to eat, I want to eat the tea eggs from this shop, Mom, can you buy me one, please? Waaah, I want to eat!" said a little boy carrying a big backpack, tugging at his mother's clothes. "Tea eggs."
The little boy was still young, probably in second or third grade.
Wu Zixuan shouted that someone in his class said the tea eggs here were even better than fried chicken legs, and mocked him for never having tried them. Wu Zixuan thought he would go and eat one today so he could get back at them.
He's already eaten!
Li Xiuyue didn't expect such a big reaction from him. Everyone in the store was watching them, and she suddenly felt her face burning. "Okay, okay, let's eat."
It's just a tea egg, why make such a fuss?
Xiao Tangbao turned her head back and whispered to Xiao Ran, "This older brother is older than us and he still cries. How embarrassing."
Xiao Ran's head pressed against Xiao Tang Bao's head, like twin sisters, "Shy face..."
Li Xiuyue said shyly, "Boss, do you have tea eggs?"
There were some available, but Yu Miaoyin said, "They're sold out."
Upon hearing this, Wu Zixuan burst into tears, "Tea eggs! I want to eat tea eggs too! Everyone else has had some, I want some too!"
"How about Mommy goes somewhere else to buy it for you? I'll buy you as many as you want, my little darling, don't cry." This is so embarrassing! Everyone's watching!
Wu Zixuan shed a few tears, sniffled, and said, "My classmates say that this shop's food is the best, so I want this one, not any other shop."
Yu Miaoyin suppressed a smile as she thought about the strange competitive spirit of children.
“Silly child, it’s just a tea egg, it’s all the same no matter where it comes from,” Li Xiuyue said, wishing she could drag the child away.
"They also have fried rice noodles here, let's eat this." Remembering why her son had been clamoring for the tea eggs from this place, Li Xiuyue quickly said, "These fried rice noodles are more expensive than tea eggs, they must taste better than tea eggs, your classmate has definitely never tried them!"
Upon hearing this, Wu Zixuan wiped her tears with the back of her hand, spreading them evenly on her face. "Waaah, okay then."
"Boss, could you make us a plate of fried rice noodles?" Li Xiuyue said.
The familiar sizzling of oil filled the kitchen again. As the rice noodles were added, the aroma of rice mingled with the scent of oil, bursting forth in the air, followed by other fragrances. Wu Zixuan stopped crying; the stir-fried rice noodles smelled so good.
Li Xiuyue only wanted one serving, and gave it to Wu Zixuan, saying, "Mom doesn't want any, you can eat it yourself."
After all, she had already bought the groceries. Aren't chicken, duck, fish, and meat more delicious than this fried rice noodles?
Wu Zixuan likes spicy strips. When he saw some chili oil, he ran over and added a spoonful, which made the fried rice noodles seem even more fragrant.
Wu Zixuan quickly picked up his chopsticks and started eating the fried rice noodles. In less than a few seconds, a third of the noodles were gone. When Li Xiuyue put down her phone and looked at her son, his mouth was greasy and he still had a little bit of rice noodles in his mouth. He was moving his mouth and said in a muffled voice, "Mom, you should try it. It's delicious."
Li Xiuyue hummed in agreement. It did smell delicious. She symbolically picked up her chopsticks and took a bite to taste.
It's so delicious!?
No wonder her son was crying and shouting that he wanted to eat at this restaurant. She picked up her chopsticks and took another bite, then a third, then a fourth. Her tongue was covered in a numbing and spicy sensation, making her reluctant to stop eating.
Wu Zixuan looked like he was about to cry, "Mom, didn't you say you weren't going to eat?"
Li Xiuyue smiled awkwardly; the fried rice noodles in the dish were almost gone.
"Boss, could you cook another one for us?" After finishing the first one, she was still not satisfied and wanted to eat another plate.
“Okay, wait a moment,” Yu Miaoyin said.
